Abstract

A framing jig assembly includes a base that may be positioned on and is coextensive with a horizontal framing member in a wall. A plurality of retainers is provided and each of the retainers is coupled to the base. Each of the retainers may engage an associated one of a plurality of vertical framing members in the wall. The retainers are spaced apart from each other and are distributed along the base. Thus, the plurality of retainers may space the vertical framing members a pre-determined distance apart from each other.

  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION (1) Field of the Invention. (2) Description of Related Art Including Information Disclosed Under 37 CFR 1.97 and 1.98
  • The disclosure and prior art relates to framing devices and more particularly pertains to a new framing device for spacing vertical framing members a predetermined distance apart.
  • BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a base that may be positioned on and is coextensive with a horizontal framing member in a wall. A plurality of retainers is provided ad each of the retainers is coupled to the base. Each of the retainers may engage an associated one of a plurality of vertical framing members in the wall. The retainers are spaced apart from each other and are distributed along the base. Thus, the plurality of retainers may space the vertical framing members a pre-determined distance apart from each other.
  • There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
  • The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS
  • The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
  • FIG. 1 is a top perspective view of a framing jig assembly according to an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 2 is a front view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 3 is a right side view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 4 is a top view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 5 is a perspective in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 5 thereof, a new framing device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
  • As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 5, the framing jig assembly 10 generally comprises a base 12. The base 12 may be positioned on and is coextensive with a horizontal framing member 14 in a wall 16. The horizontal framing member 14 may comprise a 2×4 or the like. The wall 16 may be a wall in a building or the like.
  • The base 12 has a top surface 18, a bottom surface 20, a first end 22 and a second end 24. The base 12 is elongated between the first end 22 and the second end 24. The bottom surface 20 abuts the horizontal framing member 14. The base 12 may be fastened to the horizontal framing member 14 with nails or the like.
  • A plurality of retainers 26 is provided and each of the retainers 26 is coupled to the base 12. Thus, each of the retainers 26 may engage an associated one of a plurality of vertical framing members 28 in the wall 16. Each of the vertical framing members 28 may comprise 2×4 or the like. The retainers 26 are spaced apart from each other and are distributed along the base 12. Thus, the plurality of retainers 26 may space the vertical framing members 28 a pre-determined distance apart from each other. The plurality of retainers 26 may be spaced apart a distance ranging between thirty cm and sixty cm. Thus, the retainers 26 are spaced apart in accordance with International Building Codes.
  • Each of the retainers 26 comprises a first panel 30 that is attached to the top surface 18 of the base 12. The first panel 30 is oriented perpendicular with respect to the base 12. The first panel 30 has a first surface 32 and a second surface 34. The first panel 30 may have a height ranging between five cm and ten cm.
  • Each of the retainers 26 includes a pair of first gussets 36. Each of the first gussets 36 is coupled between the first surface 32 of the first panel 30 and the top surface 18 of the base 12. Thus, the first gussets 36 retain the first panel 30 in the perpendicular orientation. The first gussets 36 are spaced apart from each other on the first panel 30.
  • Each of the retainers 26 comprises a second panel 38 that is attached to the top surface 18 of the base 12. The second panel 38 is oriented perpendicular to with respect to the base 12. The second panel 38 has a primary surface 40 and a secondary surface 42. The second panel 38 is spaced from the first panel 30 to define a framing space 44 between the first panel 30 and the second panel 38. The second panel 38 may have a height ranging between five cm and ten cm. The framing space 44 may have a width ranging between four cm and nine cm. Thus, the framing space 44 may accommodate common framing member sizing.
  • The associated vertical framing member 28 is positioned in the framing space 44. Thus, the vertical framing member 28 is oriented perpendicular to the horizontal framing member 14. The secondary surface 42 of the second panel 38 faces the second surface 34 of the first panel 30. Thus, each of the secondary surface 42 and the second surface 34 may abut the vertical framing member 28.
  • A pair of second gussets 46 is provided. Each of the second gussets 46 is coupled between the secondary surface 42 of the second panel 38 and the top surface 18 of the base 12. Thus, the second gussets 46 retain the second panel 38 in the perpendicular orientation. The second gussets 46 are spaced apart from each other on the second panel 38.
  • The base 12 and the plurality of retainers 26 define a framing jig 48. A plurality of the framing jigs 50 is provided. The wall 16 may include a pair of the horizontal framing members 52. The pair of horizontal framing members 52 includes a top plate 54 and a bottom plate 56. A first one of the framing jigs 58 is positioned on the bottom plate 56. A second one of the framing jigs 60 is positioned on the top plate 54. The first framing jig 58 is positioned to align the retainers 26 corresponding to the first framing jig 58 with the retainers 26 corresponding to the second framing jig 60.
  • In use, the first framing jig 58 is attached to the bottom plate 56. The second framing jig 60 is attached to the top plate 54. Each of the plurality of vertical framing members 28 is positioned to extend between the first framing jig 58 and the second framing jig 60. Moreover, each of the vertical framing members 28 is positioned in the framing spaces 44 corresponding to the first framing jig 58 and the second framing jig 60. Thus, the vertical framing members 28 are spaced apart from each other a distance corresponding to International Building Codes. The first framing jig 58 and the second framing jig 60 enhance accuracy with respect to stud spacing in wall construction.
  • With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.

Claims (8)

I claim:
1. A framing jig assembly being configured to space framing members a pre-determined distance apart from each other, said assembly comprising:
a base being configured to be positioned on and being coextensive with a horizontal framing member in a wall; and
a plurality of retainers, each of said retainers being coupled to said base wherein each of said retainers is configured to engage an associated one of a plurality of vertical framing members in the wall, said retainers being spaced apart from each other and being distributed along said base wherein said plurality of retainers is configured to space the vertical framing members a pre-determined distance apart from each other.
2. The assembly according to claim 1, wherein said base has a top surface, a bottom surface, a first end and a second end, said base being elongated between said first end and said second end, said bottom surface being configured to abut the horizontal framing member.
3. The assembly according to claim 2, wherein each of said retainers comprises a first panel being attached to said top surface of said base, said first panel being oriented perpendicular with respect to said base, said first panel having a first surface and a second surface.
4. The assembly according to claim 3, further comprising a pair of first gussets, each of said first gussets being coupled between said first surface of said first panel and said top surface of said base such that said first gussets retains said first panel in said perpendicular orientation.
5. The assembly according to claim 2, wherein each of said retainers comprises a second panel being attached to said top surface of said base, said second panel being oriented perpendicular to with respect to said base, said second panel having a primary surface and a secondary surface.
6. The assembly according to claim 5, wherein:
each of said retainers includes a first panel, said first panel having a second surface; and
said second panel being spaced from said first panel to define a framing space between said first panel and said second panel wherein said framing space is configured to have the associated vertical framing member being positioned therein thereby facilitating the vertical framing member to be oriented perpendicular to the horizontal framing member, said secondary surface of said second panel facing said second surface of said first panel wherein each of said secondary surface and said second surface is configured to abut the vertical framing member.
7. The assembly according to claim 5, further comprising a pair of second gussets, each of said second gussets being coupled between said secondary surface of said second panel and said top surface of said base such that said second gussets retains said second panel in said perpendicular orientation.
8. A framing jig assembly being configured to space framing members a pre-determined distance apart from each other, said assembly comprising:
a base being configured to be positioned on and being coextensive with a horizontal framing member in a wall, said base having a top surface, a bottom surface, a first end and a second end, said base being elongated between said first end and said second end, said bottom surface being configured to abut the horizontal framing member; and
a plurality of retainers, each of said retainers being coupled to said base wherein each of said retainers is configured to engage an associated one of a plurality of vertical framing members in the wall, said retainers being spaced apart from each other and being distributed along said base wherein said plurality of retainers is configured to space the vertical framing members a pre-determined distance apart from each other, each of said retainers comprising:
a first panel being attached to said top surface of said base, said first panel being oriented perpendicular with respect to said base, said first panel having a first surface and a second surface,
a pair of first gussets, each of said first gussets being coupled between said first surface of said first panel and said top surface of said base such that said first gussets retains said first panel in said perpendicular orientation,
a second panel being attached to said top surface of said base, said second panel being oriented perpendicular to with respect to said base, said second panel having a primary surface and a secondary surface, said second panel being spaced from said first panel to define a framing space between said first panel and said second panel wherein said framing space is configured to have the associated vertical framing member being positioned therein thereby facilitating the vertical framing member to be oriented perpendicular to the horizontal framing member, said secondary surface of said second panel facing said second surface of said first panel wherein each of said secondary surface and said second surface is configured to abut the vertical framing member,
a pair of second gussets, each of said second gussets being coupled between said secondary surface of said second panel and said top surface of said base such that said second gussets retains said second panel in said perpendicular orientation.
