Abstract

A vent screening system includes a building that has at least one gable. A vent extends through the at least one gable to pass air through the at least one gable. Thus, an attic of the building is vented. The vent has a plurality of louvers and each of the louvers is horizontally oriented in the vent. The louvers are spaced apart from each other and distributed on the vent. A plurality of screens is provided. Each of the screens is removably positioned in the vent to inhibit an animal from passing through the vent. Each of the screens is structured to frictionally engage an associated one of the louvers.

  • The disclosure and prior art relates to screening devices and more particularly pertains to a new screening device for inhibiting animals from entering an attic through a vent.
  • (h) BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • An embodiment of the disclosure meets the needs presented above by generally comprising a building that has at least one gable.
  • There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the disclosure in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood, and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. There are additional features of the disclosure that will be described hereinafter and which will form the subject matter of the claims appended hereto.
  • The objects of the disclosure, along with the various features of novelty which characterize the disclosure, are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure.
  • (i) BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING(S)
  • The disclosure will be better understood and objects other than those set forth above will become apparent when consideration is given to the following detailed description thereof. Such description makes reference to the annexed drawings wherein:
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a vent screening system according to an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 2 is a perspective in-use view of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 3 is a cross sectional view taken along line 3-3 of FIG. 2 of an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • FIG. 4 is a perspective view of an alternative embodiment of the disclosure.
  • (j) DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 4 thereof, a new screening device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.
  • As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 4, the vent screening system 16 10 generally comprises a building 12 has at least one gable 14. The building 12 may be a house or the like. A vent 16 extends through the at least one gable 14. The vent 16 passes air through the at least one gable 14 to vent an attic of the building 12.
  • The vent 16 has a plurality of louvers 18. Each of the louvers 18 is horizontally oriented in the vent 16. The louvers 18 are spaced apart from each other and are distributed on the vent 16. Each of the louvers 18 has a back surface 20, a front surface 22, a top surface 26 and a bottom surface 28. Each of the louvers 18 is positioned to angle downwardly between the back surface 20 and the front surface 22.
  • A plurality of screens 30 is provided. Each of the screens 30 is removably positioned in the vent 16. Thus, each of the screens 30 inhibits an animal from passing through the vent 16. Each of the screens 30 is structured to frictionally engage an associated one of the louvers 18. Thus, each of the screens 30 is retained in the vent 16.
  • Each of the screens 30 has a first end 32, a second end 34 and a pair of lateral edges 36 extending between the first end 32 and the second end 34. Each of the screens 30 may have a width ranging between fifty five cm and sixty six cm. Moreover, each of the screens 30 may be comprised of a mesh that has openings ranging between six mm and twelve mm. Each of the screens 30 may be comprised of a rigid material.
  • A bend 38 extends between the lateral edges 36 and the bend 38 is positioned closer to the first end 32 than the second end 34. The bend 38 defines a first portion 40 forming an angle with respect to a second portion 42. The first end 32 is directed downwardly from the second portion 42. The first portion 40 may have a length ranging between twelve mm and twenty four mm. The first portion 40 abuts the back surface 20 of the associated louver 18 and the second portion 42 lies on the top surface 26 of the associated louver 18. Thus, the each of the screens 30 is inhibited from sliding downwardly along the top surface 26 of the associated louvers 18.
  • A curl 44 extends between the lateral edges 36 and the curl 44 is positioned between the bend 38 and the second end 34. The curl 44 defines a first section 46 and a second section 48 of the second portion 42 having the second end 34 being directed toward the bend 38. The first section 46 is spaced from the second section 48. The first section 46 may have a length ranging between five cm and seven cm. Additionally, the first section 46 may be spaced from the second section 48 a distance ranging between five cm and seven cm.
  • The first section 46 lies on the top surface 26 of the associated louver 18. The second section 48 abuts the bottom surface 28 of an adjacent one of the louvers 18. The curl 44 extends between the associated louver 18 and the adjacent louver 18. Thus, the curl 44 inhibits the animal from passing between the associated louver 18 and the adjacent louver 18. The curl 44 may be spaced from the front surface 22 of the associated louver 18 a distance ranging between six mm and twenty mm. A fastener may be extended through the first portion 40 to engage the back surface 20 of the associated louver 18. As shown in FIG. 4, the vent 16 may have a circular shape, a square shape, a round shape or any other geometric shape and the screens 30 may be cut to fit the shape of the vent 16.
  • In use, each of the screens 30 is positioned between the louvers 18 in the vent 16. The screens 30 are installed from the attic. Thus, a ladder is not required to access to vent 16 from outside the building 12. Each screen is positioned such that the first portion 40 engages the back surface 20 of the associated louver 18. The curl 44 extends between the associated louver 18 and the adjacent louver 18. Thus, each of the screens 30 inhibits the animal from entering the attic through the vent 16.
  • With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, system and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.
  • Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word “comprising” is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article “a” does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
