This invention relates to type binding means.
The type binding device according to the present invention comprises a tape to be passed about a type body, a spring for tensioning and holding said tape in position of use on said type body, and clamping means permitting to adjust said tape to this position.
This type binding device distinguishes from the devices of this kind, hitherto known, by the particular construction of the tape clamping appliance. The tape clamping appliance according to the present invention comprises a tape guiding member provided with an angularly deected projection for interlocking with a buckle l5 to which the tension spring is coupled which effects the clamping of the tape passed between the buckle and the projection, and at the same time tensions this tape. This device is characterized by a simple construction and a convenient handling permitting to precisely adjust the tape in a reliable manner.
In the accompanying drawing a constructional form of the invention is illustrated by way of example only, in which Fig. 1 shows a section of the device on the line I-I in Fig. 4;

Fig. 3 shows a section similar to Fig. 1 with certain parts occupying different positions;
Fig. 4 shows a top plan view of the device;
Fig. 5 depicts the tape clamp used for the device in the present instance, as seen in the direction of arrow A in Fig. l, and
Fig. 6 shows the type binding device placed about a type body in position of use.
The tape in the form of a fabric band I shown to be slung about a type body 2 is passed through a tape clamping appliance or tape clamp with its front end 3 (Fig. 6). This clamp consists in the main of an angular guiding member 5 which is provided with a guide socket 4 (Figs. 1 and 5) and a bent up leg 6 of which projects into a slot 1 of a buckle 8. The leg or projection 6 carries at its free end twosidewardly directed noses 9 and IIJ which thus provide a width for the upper part of the leg 6 surpassing the length of the slot "I, so that disengaging of the buckle 8 from the leg 6 is prevented.
The band I enters the tape clamp through the guide socket 4 and leaves the clamp again from .between the leg 6 and the front cross-member I I of the buckle 8. At the height of the buckle 8 the leg 6 is provided with a notch I2 facing the cross-member II.
Between the tape clamp and the rear band end (Cl. lill- 404) I4, which is provided with a slitted tape connection member I3 made of metal, a helical tension spring I5 is arranged which is connected with one of its end to the connection member I3 and with its other end to the buckle 8 of the 5 tape clamp. The spring I5 is joined with these parts through the intermediary of flat connection pieces or lugs I6 and I'I which are provided on opposite edges with exterior threaded portions having the same pitch as the helices of the spring l0 and are screwed into the latter with their thread portions interengaging with said helices, an interior thread thus being formed on the inner side of said spring.
The type binding device according to the in- 15 vention handled during use as follows:
For binding the type body 2, the band I is at iirst placed loosely about the same, in the manner shown in Fig. 6, and thereupon the front band end 3 emerging from the tape clamp is ten- 20 sioned in the 'direction of arrow B shown in Fig. 1. By means of the tension thus acting in the direction of arrow C the cross-member II of the buckle 8 can be subjected to a thrust counteracting the resistance of the tension spring 25 I5 so much' that the member II separates from the leg 6 in the direction of arrow C any suitable amount. The band 3 can then be readily threaded through the gap formed between the leg 6 and the cross-member II, and is tensioned. 30 When on the band having been tensioned appropriately, the end 3 thereof is released, the cross-member II is forced against the band and the leg 6 by action of the spring I5 which is then also in tensioned condition, so that the band is 35 gripped between the leg 8 and the cross-member I I at the place where the notch I2 is situated and secured in position by the clamping engagement thus produced. f
When it is desired to remove this clamping 40 engagement again by opening the tape clamp, it sufces to exert pressure on a thumb-piece I8 on the angular guiding member 5 in the direction of arrow D indicated in Fig. 3, whereupon the r individual parts of the tape clamp shift relatively to one another in the manner shown in Fig. 3, so that the band is released.
The tensioned spring maintains the tape lastingly tensioned even if the tape changes its 50 length due to effect of moisture, as this is only too well known to arise frequently.
I do not limit myself to the particular size, shape, number or arrangement of parts as shown and described, al1 of which may be varied with- 55 out going beyond the scope of my invention as shown, described and claimed.
What I claim is:
l. In a type binding device, a tape to be passed about a type body, a tension spring for holding said tape in position of use on said type body, a clamping appliance for adjusting said tape t0 position of use, a tape guiding member comprised by said appliance, an angularly deflected projection on said guiding member, and a buckle interlocking with said projection and connected to said spring rearwardly of said projection for clampingly securing said tape between said pro'- jection and the front part of said buckle by action of said spring.
2. In a type binding device, a tape to be passed Y about a type body, a tension spring for holding said tape in position of useV on said type body, a clamping appliance for adjusting said tape to position of use, a tape guiding member comprised by said appliance, an angularly deflected projection notched on its front side provided on said guiding member, a guide socket provided on said guiding member in front of said projection, a linger-piece on said guiding member for shifting said projection toward said spring and a buckle interlocking with said projection and connected to said spring rearwardly of said projection for clampingly securing said tape between said projection and the front part of said buckle by action of said spring until released by shifting said projection as aforesaid by means of said finger-piece.
3. In a type binding device, a tape to be passed about a type body, a tension spring for holding said tape in position of use on said type body, a connection member for the'rear end of said tape connected to the rear end of said spring, a clamping appliance for adjusting said tape to position of use, a tape guiding member comprised by said appliance, an angularly deflected projection on said guiding member, a buckle interlocking with said projection and connected to said spring rearwardly of said projection for clampingly securing said tape between said projection and the front part of said buckle by action of said spring, and flat connection pieces provided with exterior thread portions on opposite edges thereof screwed into the ends of said helical spring with their thread portions interengaging with said helices and joining said spring with buckleV and said connection member respectively.
