2 Claims.
The object of my invention is to provide a ventilated tray-like partitioned basket particularly useful as a container, within a refrigerator, of various articles varying from time to time in 5 quantity, the structure being of such character as to be readily and cheaply manufactured and yet substantial and sanitary.
The accompanying drawing illustrates my invention:
Fig. l is an end elevation;
Fig. 2, a plan with a medial strip of the structure omitted;
Fig. 3, a fragmentary vertical section of a plane parallel with one of the adjustable partitions;
Fig. 4, a side elevation of one end of one of the adjustable partitions, on a larger scale;
Fig. 5, an end elevation of the structure shown in Fig. 4;
Fig. 6, a fragmentary vertical section of one 2c arm of one of the main frames and an adjacent partition of one of the vertical bars; and
Fig. 7, a detail similar to Fig. 4 but of a modied form of partition guiding means.
In the drawing I6 and II indicate rectangular 5 frames of wire connected by wire verticals I2 soldered or welded at their upper and lower ends to the inner sides of the frames I and I I as indicated in Fig. 6. Lateral, bottom-forming wires I4 are similarly attached to the lower frame II to 30 form a ventilated bottom for the basket or tray. At each end of the structure are the vertical legs I5 of a U-shaped supporting-leg structure secured to the inner faces of the frames IS and Il at or about the corners thereof. The lateral or 35 intermediate bar I6 of this U-shaped structure is displaced outwardly from the vertical plane of the arms I5, as shown in Fig. l, the construction being such as to aiord supporting feet which will hold the frame I I somewhat above the supporting sur- 40 face.
Adjustable partitions are formed by rectangular frames (Fig. 4) of wire, opposite sides of which are connected, at intermediate points by wires 2l. Each vertical end wire 22 of frame 20 is provided with a U-shaped guideway adapted to receive and slide upon one of the verticals I2. In Fig. 5 and at the left of Figs. l and 2 and in Fig. 4 this guide structure is shown as formed of a continuous loop of wire having medial parallel portions 22, 22 and U-shaped footings 23, 23 which are laterally displaced from the plane of the parts 22, 22 and are welded or soldered to wire 20 so that the parts 22, A22 may straddle any one of 5 the verticals I2.
It will be readily understood that various modifications of this guide structure may be provided without departing from the spirit of my invention. For instance, at the right of Figs. 1 and 2, 10 and in Fig. 7, I provide a sheet metal guide structure comprising a plate 25 having lateral ears 26, 22 bent up at right angles to plate 25 and spaced apart a distance slightly greater than the diameter of a vertical I2 with the main body of the plate 15 25 secured to a rod 20.
The partitions may be readily withdrawn Vertically and replaced in association with any desired pair of verticals I2, I2, thus providing cornpartments of any desired size, within the tray-like 20 arable partition comprising a main frame having,
at each end, a vertically extended guide structure comprising two laterally spaced vertically eX- tending substantially parallel portions spaced SO apart to receive any one of said frame verticals, the overall length of the partition and associated guide structures being less than an internal transverse dimension of the upper frame.
2. A basket-like structure comprising upper and lower Wire frames, a plurality of wire verticals eX- tending between and secured to the inner sides of said frames, a separable partition comprising a main wire frame having vertical ends, and a guide structure secured to each of said partition verticals, said guide structure formed from a single wire in two parallel medial portions and two U-shaped end portions laterally displaced from the plane of the intermediate portions and secured to the partition vertical, the intermediate portions being spaced apart to slidingly straddle a frame vertical.
