3 Claims.
This invention relates to an improvement in display racks, and more particularly to a display rack constructed of wire and capable of contraction as the quantity of goods displayed is reduced through sales and the like.
An object of the invention is to provide a rack of the type indicated of an approved and simplified structure by means of which elongated cartons such as are used in the vending of cigarettes can be most effectively displayed.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combinations of parts hereinafter more particularly described and claimed.
One sheet of drawings accompanies this specication as part thereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one form of the present invention, partly broken away to show structural details;
Figure 2 is a vertical transverse cross-section taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1;
Figure 3 is a perspective view 0f a modified form of the device.
In connection with the display of elongated cartons, it is desirable that the cartons be presented to the eye of the customer at an angle so that the top face can be readily inspected, and it is further desirable that the carton be effectively supported and prevented from sliding away from the support.
In accordance with the present invention, a substantially rectangular frame comprising substantially horizontal spaced members l and 2 and connecting end portions 4 4 is supported in an inclined position by means of supporting loops 6 6, portions of which extend forwardly of the frame portion, and are connected by a third horizontal member 3 extending parallel with the long members I and 2 of the frame but spaced above the plane of the frame.
To make the bracket expansive, the parallel members l, 2 and 3 may each be formed in two sections and short tubular sections 'l associated with corresponding end portions of each so as to permit the telescoping of the other portions therein by means of which the bracket as an entirety can be extended or contracted as the number of cartons may vary.
Portions of the wire from which the device is constructed will be bent upwardly at the ends of the lower long frame member 2, as at 5, to provide end stops for the cartons in the form illustrated in Figure 1, while in the form illustrated in ,Figure 3 the ends of asingle piece of Wire will be bent upwardly to form the similar stops 5-5.
The embodiment of the invention illustrated in Figure 3 is adapted to be formed from a single piece of wire which extends beginning at the upward projection 5' at the right rearwardly to form the upper leg of the supporting loop 6 and thence forwardly and upwardly and across to form the member 3, thence continuing to form the supporting loop 6 on the left being bent slightly to form a seat for the lefthand stop 5', thence across forming the member 2, upwardly to form the righthand connecting frame member 4, thence back forming the upper long member I and forwardly to form the lefthand member 4, terminating in the lefthand upwardly projecting stop 5. This structure can be utilized in connection with the short tube sections by soldering, brazing, or spot welding the wires where they cross adjacent the upturned stop members 5-5 which will ensure the rigid association of the end portions and permit the severing of the long members l, 2 and 3 for the application of the short tube lengths to provide the telescopic connection between the parts.
Various modifications will suggest themselves to those skilled in the art but within the scope of the present invention, as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A display rack formed of wire bent to form a substantially rectangular frame with upturned portions at opposite corners, with each end of said frame supported in an inclined position by V loops at each end constituting supporting members, the forward lower parts of said loopsV upturned and connected by a stretch substantially parallel with and forward of 'the lower long side of the frame portion.
2. The device of claim 1, with the supporting end loops extending from the forward corners of the rectangular frame part to points rearward of the back corners and with the stretch connecting said loops positioned forward of the front long side of the said rectangular frame part.
3. The device oi' claim 1, with the supporting end loops extending from the forward corners of the rectangular frame part to points rearward of the back corners and with the stretch connecting the lower parts of said loops forward of the front long side of the said rectangular frame and above its plane of said frame.
