- The invention relates generally to a hand restraint device and in particular to hand restraint gloves. Personnel who work in the military, law enforcement, and the medical field may be required to restrain individuals with handcuffs and other wrist restraint device, for example while transporting prisoners, detainees, and medical patients. However, handcuffs and other wrist restraint device do not prevent restrained individuals from using their hands and fingers in undesired ways. Gloves are needed to prevent restrained individuals from picking up contraband, grabbing weapons, escaping out of their handcuffs or other wrist restraint device, or using their hands and fingers in other undesired ways. The hand restraint glove would resolve this problem.
- Accordingly, the invention is directed to a hand restraint glove for preventing restrained individuals from using their hands and fingers in undesired ways. The gloves completely limit the ability of restrained individuals to use their hands and fingers by encapsulating their hands. The gloves contain straps and fastening elements, and can be used in conjunction with handcuffs and other wrist restraint devices.
- Additional features and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the description which follows, and will be apparent from the description, or may be learned by practice of the invention. The foregoing general description and the following detailed description are exemplary and explanatory and are intended to provide further explanation of the invention.
- The accompanying drawing is included to provide a further understanding of the invention and is incorporated into and constitutes a part of the specification. It illustrates one embodiment of the invention and, together with the description, serves to explain the principles of the invention.
-

FIG. 2 is a top view of the front of the first exemplary embodiment in an open configuration, displaying theleft glove 10, theright glove 11, firsthorizontal strap 12, the firsthorizontal strap loop 12A, the secondhorizontal strap 13, the secondhorizontal strap loop 13A, the topvertical strap 15, the topvertical strap clip 16, the bottomvertical strap 17, the bottomvertical strap clip 18, the glove opening 19, the front of theglove 21, and afinger end 23. -
FIG. 3 is a top view of the front of the first exemplary embodiment in a closed configuration, displaying theright glove 11, firsthorizontal strap 12, the firsthorizontal strap loop 12A, the secondhorizontal strap 13, the secondhorizontal strap loop 13A, the thirdhorizontal strap 14, the topvertical strap 15, the topvertical strap clip 16, the bottomvertical strap 17, the bottomvertical strap clip 18, and the glove opening 19. -
FIG. 4 is a top view of the back of the first exemplary embodiment in a closed configuration, displaying theright glove 11, firsthorizontal strap 12, the firsthorizontal strap loop 12A, the firsthorizontal strap fastener 12B, the secondhorizontal strap 13, the secondhorizontal strap loop 12A, the secondhorizontal strap fastener 12B, and the glove opening 19. - Referring now to the invention in more detail, the invention is a hand restraint glove for preventing restrained individuals from using their hands and fingers in undesired ways. The
left glove 10 andright glove 11 are comprised of a vertical strap, plurality of horizontal straps, and a plurality of fasteners and clips. - In the first exemplary embodiment, there are three horizontal straps. The first
horizontal strap 12 is permanently attached to the back of theglove 20. The firsthorizontal strap 12 wraps around to the front of theglove 21 through the firsthorizontal strap loop 12A and back to the back of theglove 20 where it attaches to the firsthorizontal strap fastener 12B. the firsthorizontal strap fastener 12B is a slide fastener but any strap fastener is contemplated. The secondhorizontal strap 13 is permanently attached to the back of theglove 20 below the firsthorizontal strap 12. The secondhorizontal strap 13 wraps around to the front of theglove 21 through the secondhorizontal strap loop 13A and back to the back of theglove 20 where it attaches to the secondhorizontal strap fastener 13B. The secondhorizontal strap fastener 13B is a slide fastener but any strap fastener is contemplated. The thirdhorizontal strap 14 is permanently attached to the back of theglove 20 at the wrist of theglove 22. The thirdhorizontal strap 14 wraps around to the front of theglove 21 and back to the back of theglove 20 where it attaches to the thirdhorizontal strap 14 using hook and loop fasteners. The three horizontal straps are made of a flexible tear resistant material, such as nylon. Alternative embodiments may feature more or fewer horizontal straps and fastening elements. - A top
vertical straps 15 is permanently attached to thefinger end 23 and is permanently attached to a topvertical strap clip 16. A bottomvertical strap 17 is permanently attached to theglove wrist 22 on the front of theglove 21. The bottom vertical strap is permanently attached to a bottomvertical strap clip 18. The topvertical strap clip 16 and bottomvertical strap clip 18 are preferably the male and female parts of a parachute buckle but other means of fastening are contemplated. The vertical straps are made of a flexible tear resistant material, such as nylon. - The
left glove 10 andright glove 11 are preferably made from a flexible abrasion resistant material such as leather. - Components, component sizes, and materials listed above are preferable, but artisans will recognize that alternate components and materials could be selected without altering the scope of the invention.
- While the foregoing written description of the invention enables one of ordinary skill to make and use what is presently considered to be the best mode thereof, those of ordinary skill in the art will understand and appreciate the existence of variations, combinations, and equivalents of the specific embodiment, method, and examples herein. The invention should, therefore, not be limited by the above described embodiment, method, and examples, but by all embodiments and methods within the scope and spirit of the invention.
