Abstract
A composite chair adapted for permitting a user to sit thereon. The composite chair includes a base unit and a seat unit. The seat unit includes a seat body that is mounted on the base unit and that is adapted for supporting the user's buttocks, and a pushing member that is fixedly mounted on a rear end of the seat body. The seat body is pivotable relative to the base unit for inclining the pushing member to push the user' s waist forward.
Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The invention relates to a chair, more particularly to a composite chair.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- Modern people value the quality of life, which is reflected in their requirements for daily utilities. These utilities must not only provide better performance but also aid in health. Taking chairs for example, most modern chairs are designed with a backrest to support a user's back. Unfortunately, most backrests are plate-shaped and tend to cause discomfort and lead to posture problems.
- In view of this, vendors began developing ergonomic chairs similar to the
conventional chair 1 shown inFIG. 1 . Theconventional chair 1 includes asupport frame 11, abackrest unit 12 connected to thesupport frame 11, and aseat unit 13 connected to thesupport frame 11. Thebackrest unit 12 includes anarcuate rod 121, twocoupling members 122 respectively sleeved on opposite ends of thearcuate rod 121, and twobackrest pads 123 respectively connected to thecoupling members 122. Thebackrest pads 123 are rotatable in upward, downward, left and right directions relative to thesupport frame 11, and the distance between thebackrest pads 123 is adjustable by moving thecoupling members 122 to different positions along thearcuate rod 121. Through this configuration, the user's back and waist muscles are comfortably supported by thebackrest pads 123. - However, even though the
conventional chair 1 provides more comfort, it fails to provide support to the user's remaining body parts. In addition, most users such as office workers remain seated for an extended period of time without exercise, causing posture problems that affect health. Therefore, there is room for improvement regarding the functionality of theconventional chair 1. - Therefore, the object of the present invention is to provide a composite chair that can eliminate the aforesaid drawbacks of the prior art.
- According to the present invention, there is provided a composite chair adapted for permitting a user to seat thereon. The composite chair includes a base unit and a seat unit. The seat unit includes a seat body and a pushing member. The seat body is mounted on the base unit and is adapted for supporting the user's buttocks. The pushing member is fixedly mounted on a rear end of the seat body. The seat body is pivotable relative to the base unit for inclining the pushing member to push the user's waist forward.

FIGS. 2 and 3 , the preferred embodiment of a composite chair according to the present invention is adapted for permitting auser 9 to sit thereon, and includes abase unit 2, aseat unit 3, ashifting device 4, abackrest unit 5, aninflatable unit 6 and anarmrest unit 7. - The
base unit 2 includes twofront legs 21 spacedly disposed, two rear legs 22 (only one can be seen) spacedly disposed, a connectingplate 23 interconnecting the front andrear legs top board 24 interconnecting thefront legs 21 and disposed below the shiftingdevice 4. - The
seat unit 3 includes aseat body 31 and a pushingmember 32. Theseat body 31 is mounted on thebase unit 2 and is adapted for supporting the buttocks of theuser 9. The pushingmember 32 is fixedly mounted on a rear end of theseat body 31. Theseat body 31 is pivotable relative to thebase unit 2 for inclining the pushingmember 32 to push the waist of theuser 9 forward. Theseat unit 3 further includes afirst power source 33 and afirst driving member 34 that are mounted on the connectingplate 23. Thefirst driving member 34 drives a pivoting motion of theseat body 31 while thefirst power source 33 provides power to thefirst driving member 34. In this embodiment, thefirst driving member 34 is a cam; by controlling the rotation of the cam, theseat body 31 can be disposed horizontally (seeFIG. 3 ), inclined forward (seeFIG. 4 ) and inclined backward (seeFIG. 5 ) relative to thebase unit 2. Thefirst driving member 34 may also be a pneumatic cylinder or a hydraulic cylinder and is not limited to what is disclosed herein. - Referring to
FIGS. 3 and 6 , the shiftingdevice 4 is pivotally mounted on thebase unit 2, is disposed in front of theseat unit 3, and includes twosupport units 41 adapted for respectively supporting the thighs of theuser 9. Thesupport units 41 are movable relative to thebase unit 2 between a retracted position (seeFIG. 6 ), where thesupport units 41 are close to each other, and an expanded position (seeFIG. 7 ), where thesupport units 41 are away from each other. Thetop board 24 of thebase unit 2 is formed with twoarcuate slide grooves 241 spaced apart from each other. Each of thesupport units 41 of the shiftingdevice 4 includes asupport plate 411, and alimiting member 412 that protrudes downward from thesupport plate 411 for engaging slidably a respective one of theslide grooves 241 so as to be limited therein, thus allowing thesupport plates 411 of thesupport units 41 to be movable between the retracted and expanded positions. - With reference to
FIGS. 2 and 3 , thebackrest unit 5 is mounted on and pivotable relative to thebase unit 2 in a front-rear direction for moving the back of theuser 9. Thebackrest unit 5 includes asecond driving member 51, aback board 52 and asecond power source 53. Thesecond driving member 51 is pivotally mounted between therear legs 22 of thebase unit 2. Theback board 52 is mounted on thesecond driving member 51 and is formed with two concavereceiving portions 521 facing theuser 9. Thesecond power source 53 is mounted on thebase unit 2 for providing power to thesecond driving member 51. In this embodiment, thesecond driving member 51 is a motor, and thepower source 53 is mounted on one of therear legs 22; these configurations are not limited to what is disclosed herein. - Referring to
FIGS. 3 and 7 , thearmrest unit 7 is mounted on and vertically movable relative to thebackrest unit 5, and is adapted for supporting respectively the arms of theuser 9. Thearmrest unit 7 includes a connectingmember 71 and twoarmrest members 72. The connectingmember 71 is mounted on thebackrest unit 5 and is vertically movable relative to thebackrest unit 5. Thearmrest members 72 are respectively and pivotally connected to left and right ends of the connectingmember 71 and are horizontally pivotable relative to the connectingmember 71. Thearmrest unit 7 further includes twothird driving members 73 and athird power source 74. Thethird driving members 73 are spacedly mounted on theback board 52 of thebackrest unit 5 for controlling movement of the connectingmember 71 in a top-bottom direction while thethird power source 74 provides power to thethird driving members 73. Each of thethird driving members 73 may be a pneumatic cylinder or a hydraulic cylinder and is not limited to what is disclosed herein. - Referring again to
FIGS. 2 and 3 , theinflatable unit 6 is mounted on a side of thebackrest unit 5, faces theuser 9 and is inflatable for supporting the back of theuser 9. Theinflatable unit 6 includes twoinflatable members 61 and an inflating-deflatingcomponent 62. Eachinflatable member 61 is received in a respective one of the receivingportions 521 of thebackrest unit 5. The inflating-deflatingcomponent 62 is mounted on theback board 52 for inflating theinflatable members 61 to support the back of theuser 9, and deflating theinflatable members 61 when necessary (e.g., when not in use). The inflating-deflatingcomponent 62 has a built-in power source (not shown). It should be noted that due to the viewing angle, only one of theinflatable members 61 is shown in the side schematic views. - With reference to
FIG. 3 , the composite chair of this invention is to be used as an ordinary chair that permits auser 9 to sit thereon, where the twothird driving members 73 are operated to adjust the height of the connectingmember 71 for positioning thearmrest members 72 at the appropriate height. When thefirst power source 33 drives rotation of the first drivingmember 34 such that theseat body 31 is inclined forward as shown inFIG. 8 , theseat body 31 will synchronously drive the pushingmember 32 to tilt forward so as to push the waist and hips of theuser 9. In the meantime, thesecond power source 53 of thebackrest unit 5 drives the second drivingmember 51 to rotate and thereby tilt theback board 52 forward, thus pushing the upper body of theuser 9 slightly forward. Simultaneously, the inflating-deflatingcomponent 62 of theinflatable unit 6 charges air into theinflatable members 61 and once inflated, the back of theuser 9 is pushed forward and supported by the same. This coordinated motion raises the chest of theuser 9 forward and upward so as to stretch the abdominal, waist and back muscles of theuser 9; at this time, the arms and legs of theuser 9 will naturally stretch outward to move the twoarmrest members 72 outwardly and not move thesupport plates 411 from the retracted position to the expanded position as shown inFIG. 7 . It should be noted that the pushingmember 32 of theseat unit 3 has an inverted trapezoid shape that corresponds to the pelvis of theuser 9 for better pushing results. - When the first driving
member 34 rotates back to the position shown inFIG. 3 , theseat body 31 is disposed horizontally relative to thebase unit 2, and the inflating-deflatingcomponent 62 discharges the air from theinflatable members 61 such that the body of theuser 9 returns to its initial/original posture. - Referring to
FIG. 9 , since theback board 52 of thebackrest unit 5 is independently pivotable relative to thebase unit 2 as controlled by the second drivingmember 51, which is powered by thesecond power source 53, theuser 9 can train his/her abdominal and back muscles if desired. For example, inFIG. 9 , theback board 52 is inclined backward, allowing the upper body of theuser 9 to face slightly upward, thus stretching the abdominal and thigh muscles (e.g. quadriceps). When the back board is inclined backward, the inflating-deflatingcomponent 62 charges air into theinflatable members 61 for supporting the back of theuser 9. In practice, theseat body 31, the pushingmember 32 and theback board 52 can simultaneously incline backward. - Referring back to
FIGS. 2 and 3 , each of thesupport plates 411 of the shiftingdevice 4 and thearmrest members 72 of thearmrest unit 7 are moved by theuser 9, allowing theuser 9 to train his/her arm and leg muscles separately. Moreover, operations of the first, second andthird power sources component 62 can be controlled by a single controller (not shown), which may independently activate these components or control them in a predetermined sequence, e. g., activating thefirst power source 33, thesecond power source 53 and the inflating-deflatingcomponent 62 in sequence. Since these controlling methods are well known to those skilled in the art, they will not be further detailed herein. - In sum, in the composite chair of this invention, through the pivoting of the
seat body 31 of theseat unit 3 relative to thebase unit 2, the pushingmember 32 will push the waist and hips of theuser 9 and the pushing effect is enhanced due to the inverted trapezoid shape (which corresponds to the shape of the pelvis) of the pushingmember 32. Theinflatable members 61 of theinflatable unit 6 can be inflated to push and support the back of theuser 9 to raise the chest of theuser 9 up and forward, thus stretching the back and abdominal muscles of theuser 9 and strengthening the core of theuser 9. Moreover, each of theseat unit 3, the shiftingdevice 4, thebackrest unit 5, theinflatable unit 6 and thearmrest unit 7 can be operated independently, allowing theuser 9 to train and/or rehabilitate the muscle group of a designated body portion according to the needs of theuser 9. Therefore, the purpose of this invention is served. - While the present invention has been described in connection with what is considered the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is understood that this invention is not limited to the disclosed embodiment but is intended to cover various arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the broadest interpretation so as to encompass all such modifications and equivalent arrangements.
Claims (12)
1. A composite chair adapted for permitting a user to sit thereon, said composite chair comprising:
a base unit; and
a seat unit including
a seat body that is mounted on said base unit and that is adapted for supporting the user's buttocks, and
a pushing member that is fixedly mounted on a rear end of said seat body, said seat body being pivotable relative to said base unit for inclining said pushing member to push the user's waist forward.
2. The composite chair as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a shifting device that is mounted on said base unit, that is disposed in front of said seat unit, and that includes two support units adapted for respectively supporting the user's thighs and movable relative to said base unit between a retracted position, where said support units are close to each other, and an expanded position, where said support units are away from each other.
3. The composite chair as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a backrest unit that is mounted on said base unit and that is pivotable in a front-rear direction relative to said base unit for moving the user's back.
4. The composite chair as claimed in claim 3 , further comprising an inflatable unit that is mounted on aside of said backrest unit, that faces the user, and that is inflatable for supporting the user's back.
5. The composite chair as claimed in claim 4 , further comprising an armrest unit that is mounted on said backrest unit, that is vertically movable relative to said backrest unit and that is adapted for supporting the user's arms.
6. The composite chair as claimed in claim 5 , wherein said armrest unit includes
a connecting member that is mounted on said backrest unit and that is vertically movable relative to said backrest unit, and
two armrest members that are respectively and pivotally connected to left and right ends of said connecting member and that are horizontally pivotable relative to said connecting member.
7. The composite chair as claimed in claim 1 , wherein:
said base unit includes
two front legs that are spacedly disposed,
two rear legs that are spacedly disposed, and
a connecting plate that interconnects said front and rear legs and that is disposed below said seat body of said seat unit; and
said seat unit further including a driving member mounted on said connecting plate for driving a pivoting motion of said seat body, and a power source mounted on said connecting plate for providing power to said driving member.
8. The composite chair as claimed in claim 2 , wherein said base unit further includes a top board interconnecting said front legs and disposed below said shifting device, said top board being formed with two arcuate slide grooves that are spaced apart from each other, each of said support units of said shifting device including a support plate, and a limiting member that protrudes downward from said support plate for engaging slidably a respective one of said slide grooves, such that said support units are movable relative to said base unit between the retracted position and the expanded position.
9. The composite chair as claimed in claim 3 , wherein said backrest unit includes
a driving member that is pivotally mounted between said rear legs,
a back board that is mounted on said driving member, and
a power source that is mounted on said base unit for providing power to said driving member.
10. The composite chair as claimed in claim 6 , wherein said armrest unit further includes
two driving members spacedly mounted on said back board of said backrest unit for controlling movement of said connecting member in a top-bottom direction, and
a power source for providing power to said driving members.
11. The composite chair as claimed in claim 10 , wherein said back board of said backrest unit is formed with two concave receiving portions facing the user's back, said inflatable unit including two inflatable members, each of which is received in a respective one of said receiving portions, and an inflating-deflating component which is mounted on said back board for inflating/deflating said inflatable members.
12. The composite chair as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said pushing member of said seat unit has an inverted trapezoid shape
