ENVELOPE AND FOLDER Filed Oct. 25, 1933 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Sept. 10, 1935. A. MAROWITZ 2,013,664
' ENVELOPE AND FOLDER Filed Oct. 25, 1935 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Sept. 10, 1935 UNITED STATES 1 Claim.
This invention relates to envelopes and folders especially adapted for minimizing mistakes in the filing of letters, papers and other documents and has for the primary object the provision of means whereby the name and address or other indicia describing each file may be easily read, while at the same time disclosing like data of the adjacent file so that a person may more readily accomplish filing without the danger of making mistakes or errors in placing the papers or documents within the wrong file.
With these and other objects in view this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a perspective view illustrating a pair of envelopes as they would appear in a filing system and constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view illustrating one of the sight openings in the envelope and taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a similar view showing the other sight opening in the envelope and taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a plan view illustrating the blank from which the envelope is constructed.
Figure 5 is a view similar to Figure 1 showing folders constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 6 is a sectional view illustrating one of the sight openings of the folder and taken on the line 6-6 of Figure 5.
Figure 7 is a similar view to Figure 6 showing the other sight opening of the folder and taken on the line 1-1 of Figure 5.
Figure 8 is a plan view illustrating a blank from which the folder is constructed.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numerals l and 2 indicate respectively envelopes and folders which are similarly constructed, ex-
cept that the envelopes are closed at the sides by flaps 3. The envelopes and the folders are constructed from blanks, as shown in Figures 4 and 8 of the ofilcial drawings. The envelope blank disclosed in Figure 4 consists of walls 5 and 6 folded on the line 1 and the wall 5 carries the flaps 3 and also carries the closure flap 8. The blank shown in Figure 8 is for the folder and consists of the walls 9 and ID. The wall 9 carries the closure flap II. The closure flaps 8 and II are capable of hinging movement. Peek PATENT OFFICE openings I! are provided in the walls of the envelope and the folder as a cautionary device so that a person may readily observe whether the respective envelope contains letters, documents, or other matter. 5
The closure flaps 8 and H, are each provided with a slot 43 and a window It. The slot l3 lies entirely within its respective closure flap while the window l4 extends into and through the wall to which the closure flap is hinged. The name 10 and address and other indicia is printed or otherwise applied to the wall carrying the closure flap so as to always be in view either when the flap occupies a closed or open position, this being accomplished by the employment of the slots I3. 15 The window I4 is for the purpose of exposing to view the like data of adjacent files or envelopes.
It is to be understood that my invention is adaptable either to an envelope or a folder as 20 set forth in the accompanying drawings and reference specifically to the manner in which the envelope and folder are employed in a filing system is thought sufiicient by referring simply to the envelope as follows: 25
The envelopes are constructed in pairs, as shown in Figure 1, so that the slots and windows of one envelope of said pair is alternatingly arranged to the slot and window of the envelope of the other pair. By this arrangement a person 30 may easily and quickly determine the name and address or other indicia of a pair of files at a' time, the window of the first file of each pair examined always exposing to view the name and address'or other indicia of the following file of 35 said pair. This arrangement permits a person to more easily and quickly file letters, papers or other documents with the danger of misfiling reduced to a minimum.
While I have shown and described the pre- 40 ferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, as claimed. 45
Having described the invention, I claim:
An envelope or folder comprising a closure body including front and back walls, a flap hinged to the back wall and partially overlapping the front wall, said flap having laterally spaced slots, 50 one of said slots exposing indicia on a portion of said back wall and the other of said slots being confluent with a cut-out in the back wall whereby to render visible a portion of an adjoining folder therethrough.
