Abstract

A heat sink assembly includes a fixing plate, a heat sink, a number of first fasteners, and a second fastener. The fixing plate includes a number of first poles and a second pole extending from a top of the fixing plate. A first threaded hole is defined in a top of each first pole, and a first threaded portion is formed on a top of the second pole. The heat sink includes a base. The first and second fasteners are extended through the base. A second threaded portion is formed on a bottom of each first fastener, and engages in a corresponding one of the first threaded holes. A second threaded hole is defined in a bottom of the second fastener, and engages with the first threaded portion. The second pole and the second fastener can limit the heat sink fixed to the fixing plate to only one angle.

Description

    BACKGROUND
  • 1. Technical Field
  • The present disclosure relates to a heat sink assembly.
  • 2. Description of Related Art
  • To fasten a heat sink having a number of through holes to a motherboard, a fixing plate defining a number of threaded holes is first mounted to the motherboard. Then, a number of screws are respectively extended through the through holes and are engaged in threaded holes, to fix the heat sink to the fixing plate. The heat sink always needs to be fixed to the fixing plate at a predetermined angle. However, the through holes are always symmetrically arranged on the heat sink around a center of the heat sink, and the heat sink can be fixed to the fixing plate in multiple angles. If there is no mistake-proof design, the heat sink may be easily fixed to the fixing plate at an error angle.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • Many aspects of the present embodiments can be better understood with reference to the following drawings. The components in the drawings are not necessarily drawn to scale, the emphasis instead being placed upon clearly illustrating the principles of the present embodiments. Moreover, in the drawing, all the views are schematic, and like reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
  • FIG. 1 is an exploded, isometric view of an exemplary embodiment of a heat sink assembly.
  • FIG. 2 is similar to FIG. 1, but viewed from another perspective.
  • FIG. 3 is an assembled, isometric view of FIG. 2.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION
  • The disclosure, including the accompanying drawings, is illustrated by way of example and not by way of limitation. It should be noted that references to “an” or “one” embodiment in this disclosure are not necessarily to the same embodiment, and such references mean at least one.
  • FIGS. 1 and 2, are exemplary embodiments of a heat sink assembly including a fixing plate 10, three first fasteners 20, a second fastener 30, four springs 40, four substantially C-shaped tabs 50, and a heat sink 60.
  • The heat sink 60 includes a square base 61, and a plurality of fins 63 extending up from the base 61. Four through holes (not shown) are defined in the base 61, respectively adjacent to four corners of the base 61. The through holes are symmetrically arranged around a center of the base 61.
  • The fixing plate 10 is square shaped. Three first poles 12 perpendicularly extend up from the fixing plate 10, respectively adjacent to three corners of the fixing plate 10. A second pole 14 perpendicularly extends up from the fixing plate 10, adjacent to the last corner of the fixing plate 10. The first poles 12 and the second pole 14 are symmetrically arranged around a center of the fixing plate 10. A first threaded hole 121 is defined in the top of each first pole 12. The second pole 14 includes a post 141 and a first threaded portion 143 extending up from the top of the post 141. The fixing plate 10 is mounted to a motherboard (not shown) at a predetermined angle.
  • Each first fastener 20 includes a head 21, a post 23 perpendicularly extending down from the bottom of the head 21, and a second threaded portion 25 extending down from the bottom of the post 23. A circular slot 231 is defined in a circumference of the post 23 adjacent to the second threaded portion 25. Three springs 40 are respectively placed around the posts 23. The second threaded portions 25 and lower sections of the posts 23 respectively extend through three predetermined through holes of the base 61, to allow three tabs 50 to engage in the slots 231 under the base 61. The springs 40 are respectively sandwiched between the base 61 and the corresponding heads 21. The tabs 50 engage with the bottom of the base 61.
  • The second fastener 30 includes a head 31, and a post 33 perpendicularly extending down from the bottom of the head 31. A second threaded hole 331 is defined in the bottom of the post 33. A circular slot 333 is defined in a circumference of the post 33 adjacent to the bottom of the post 33. The last spring 40 is placed around the post 33. A lower section of the post 33 is extended through the last through hole of the base 61, to allow the last tab 50 to engage in the slot 333 under the base 61. The last spring 40 is sandwiched between the base 61 and the head 31. The last tab 50 engages with the bottom of the base 61.
  • FIG. 3, in assembly, the heat sink 60 is placed above the fixing plate 10, to allow the second fastener 30 to align with the second pole 14, and to allow the first fasteners 20 to respectively align with the first poles 12. The first and second fasteners 20 and 30 are operated, to allow the second threaded portions 25 to respectively engage in the first threaded holes 121, and to allow the first threaded portion 143 to engage in the second threaded hole 331. Thereby, the heat sink 60 is fastened to the fixing plate 10 at a right angle. In the embodiment, the second pole 14 and the second fastener 30 can limit the heat sink 60 fastening to the fixing plate 10 at only one angle, which can prevent angle mistake in assembly of the heat sink 60.
  • Even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the embodiments have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and the functions of the embodiments, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in details, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the embodiments to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
