Description

Aug. 13, 1935; v. s. PARSLEY 2,011,525
WASTE PIPE OR DRAIN CLEANER Filed Jan.' 22, 1934 'V EZvi/an ParsZe I INVENTOR ATTORNEY r Piii iiied Aug. '13, 1935' UNITED STATES PATENT A OFFICE 1 Claim.
The invention relates to a waste pipe or drain cleaner and more especially to a device of this kind for use in sinks, toilet bowls, wash bowls and the like.
5 One of many objects of the invention is the provision of a device of this character, wherein the flexible elastic tube at one end is rolled on itself to effect a circumferentially extending and expansible bead so that this end of the tube will be materially reinforced for connection with a faucet, while the other end of said tube is builded.
with a stopper-like terminal reinforcing the tube for a considerable distance for application in the waste or drain outlet so that on the app y ng of the device the water from the faucet, under pressure, will be delivered through the outlet for the cleaning'of the-waste pipe or drain.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is extremely simple in construction, thoroughly reliable and eilicient in operation, strong, durable, and inexv pensive to manufacture. with these .and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction,
combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which dis-l closes the preferred embodiment of the invention, and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device constructed in accordance with the invention, the.
same being shown attached to a faucet for action on the clogged sink trap, the sink and trap being shown in vertical section- Figure 2 is an enlarged side elevation of the I device removed and partly broken away.
Figure'3 is a side elevation of a faucet having the externally threaded hose attaching nipple end, showing fragmentarily in section the tube of the device connected therewith. Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing. I
Referring to the drawing in detail, A designates a portion of a sink which is of standard construction having the conventional waste trap I and such sink being in association with water spigots or faucets 6, the latter likewise being of the ordinary well known kind.
'6, water under pressure will be delivered the bead materially reinforcing such end to assure a tight joint between the tube and said spigot or faucet. The terminal portion 8 is turnable and to-allow for this the same is gradually thinned outwardly to its outer extremity so that it can be easily and closely rolled and also permitted to ride over an external portion upon a faucet The opposite end ofthe tube-1 has builded externally thereon a resilient reinforcing head 9 provided with the reversely tapered external surfaces Ill and II, respectively, the surface portion In being effective as a wedging plug for insertion'in the trap 5 to'assure a sealed juncture for attachment thereto.
therebetween'on the insertion of said head, as is shown in Figure 1 of the drawing.
when the device has been applied, as shown in Figure 1, on the opening of the spigot or fauclet to t e trap 5 for the cleaning thereof without liability of the leakage of the water under pressure from the trap between it and the head 9 or between the rolled bead'8 and the spigot or faucet 6.
In Figure 3 of the drawing there is shown the faucet I! having the externally threaded nipple end l3 forthe coupling of a hose thereto and expanded over this end is the rolled end 8 of the tube I, the end 8 being unrolled for tight fitting snugly about the nipple end l3, as will be clearly apparent, so that the tube can be engaged for use with this type of faucet.
What is claimed is:-
A cleaner of the character described comprising a flexible elastictube, a reversely externally tapered head at one end of the tube, and a freely turnable end remote from said head and adapted to be curled outwardly and backwardly upon said tube, said turnable end being gradually thinned outwardiyto its extremity to provide easy and close rolling action of said end and also. topermit vrvnm amasnnr.
