A match card 33 is secur d by a staple 34 or in any other suitable manner along the crease line I2 with the match heads extending in the same direction as the free end of the flap I6. A striking surface 35 of any suitable material is secured beneath the staple on the match card and when the container is folded the free end of the flap I6 is tucked under this striking surface as in the conventional type match folder.

In the modified form shown in Figure 4, a slot 36 may be provided parallel to the match card adjacent the crease line I2 to receive the free end of the flap I6. The striking surface 31 in this case may be fixed in any suitable manner to the side, as shown, or at any other appropriate point desired.

The portion 2i is folded along the crease lines 22 and 23, thus defining one edge of the back I3, the bottom 24, the front 25, the top 25 and the tab 21. The left side of the portion In is folded along the crease lines II and I2 forming one edge of the back and the side I4, with the free end of the flap I6 or the free end of the match folder as in Figure 5, extending through the slot 32. The right side of the portion I0 is likewise folded along the crease lines II and I2 with the end of the flap I6 or the free end of the match folder 40 40 threaded through the slot 20, with the front flap I5 of this side extending under the match card 33. The edge of this front flap extends under the tabs I9 to hold it firmly in place, .and the flap I6 is then tucked under the striking surface 35. The notches 38 formed in the sides of the flap I6 engage the ends of the slot 20 to further lock the container in fixedposition,

The package of cigarettes is then placed in the container and the tab 21 is forced in the slot 3I to complete the assembly.

In the case of the form shown in'Figure 4, the tab I6 is inserted in the slot 36 rather than under the striking surfaces as in the preferred form shown in Figure 2.

The container thus formed protects the cigarettes against crushing and serves not only as a cigarette container but as a container for sum-- cient quantity of matches necessary to ignite the cigarettes enclosed therein. The structure is such that a portion of the container serves to lock the container in folded condition and a cover for the matches appropriately secured thereon.

The surface of the container may be used for advertising purposes and the like. The container may be cheaply and readily produced since it consists of a blank form of appropriate material with a match folder or a match card and striking surface fixed thereon as above specified. The device is of novel construction not only from the standpoint of usefulness but is of considerable commercial value.

It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in my device without departing from the spirit of the invention and therefore I do not limit myself to what is shown in the drawing and described in the specification, but only as indicated by the appended claims.

Having thus fully what I claim as new ters Patent, is:

1. A container for a package of cigarettes comprising a blank, the ends of one portion constructed to be folded inwardly to form the sides and front flaps of said container, one of said front flaps being reduced and extending to form a relatively long flap and the other portion of said blank constructed to be folded to form the bottom, front, top and securing tab of said container, said front and other of said front flaps being provided with slots therein to receive the end of the long fiap to maintain said containerin fixed position, said long fiap being constructed to cover a match card fixed on said container.

2. A container for a package of cigarettes comprising a blank, the ends of one portion being constructed to be folded inwardly to form the sides, front flaps and locking flap of said container, and the other portion constructed to be folded to form the bottom, front, top and securing tab of said container, said front and one of said front flaps being provided with slots therein to receive the free end of said locking flap to hold said container in folded condition, said flap serving to cover a match card fixed on said container.

3. The combination of a container and a match card appropriately fixed thereon comprising a back, sides and overlapping front flaps, one of said front flaps being provided with a slot therein and the other with an elongated locking flap. said locking fiap being constructed to be threaded through said slot to lock the container in fixed position with the projecting end thereof constructed to engage and cover said match card.

4. A container for a package of cigarettes comprising a blank provided with a series of crease lines, one portion of saidblank being constructed to be folded to form the back, sides, front flaps and locking fiap of the container and the other portion of said blank being constructed to be folded to form the bottom, front, top and securing fiap of said container, said front and one of said front flaps being provided with slots therein to receive the end of said locking flap to hold said container in fixed position with the free described my said invention, and desire to secure by Letend of said flap constructed to engage and cover a match card fixed on said container.

5. The combination of a container and a match card comprising a back, sides and overlapping front flaps, one of said flaps being provided with a slot therein and the other being reduced to form a locking flap, said locking flap constructed to be inserted beneath said slotted front flap, through said slot to hold the container in fixed position with the free end of said locking flap constructed to engage and cover said match card.

6. The combination of a container and a match card comprising front flaps, said flaps being provided with parallel slots formed therein, one of said flaps being further provided with a locking extension formed thereon constructed to be threaded through the slot in other of said front fiaps to hold the container in fixed position with the free end covering said match card and engageable in the other of said slots.

7. The combination of a container and a match card fixed thereon comprising a back, sides and overlapping flaps, one of said fiaps being provided with a slot therein and the other with an elongated locking fiap, said locking fiap constructed to be threaded through said slot to lock said container in fixed position with the free end covering said match card, and means for maintaining the free end of said flap in position.

8. A container for a package of cigarettes comprising a back, sides and overlapping front fiaps, one of said flaps being provided with a slot therein and the other with a locking tab formed on its edge adapted to be inserted in said slot to hold said container in fixed position, and a card provided with an overlapping edge fixed to said container adapted to be covered by said tab with the free end of said tab secured beneath the overlapping edge.

9. A container for a package of cigarettes comprising a back, sides and overlapping front flaps, one of said flaps being slotted and the other being provided with a tab formed on its edge adapted to be threaded through said slotted flap to hold said container in fixed position, a card fixed to the surface of one fiap extending over the other fiap constructed to be covered by said tab, and means for maintaining the end of said tab in fixed position after being bent over said card.

10. The combination of a container for a package of cigarettes and a match card attached to the container, said container comprising a back. sides and overlapping front flaps, one 01' said front flaps being slotted and the other being provided with a projecting tab secured thereto constructed to be threaded through said slotted flap to hold said container in fixed position and to cover said match card.

11. The combination of a container for a package of cigarettes and a match card attached to the container, said container comprising a back, sides and overlapping front fiaps, one of said front fiaps being slotted and the other being provided with a projecting tab secured thereto constructed to be threaded through said slotted fiap to hold said container in fixed position and to cover said match card, and means for maintaining the free end of the tab in position.
