Abstract

The Lawnsaver is the answer to a problem caused by rainwater rushing out of downspouts. The holes placed on three different sides of the Lawnsaver sprinkles water in a large area rather than in one location. The design also reduces the velocity of the water, which otherwise, causes trenches to be cut in your yard or washes out your landscaping.

  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • Often when water drains out of a downspout, the force of the water will wash out decorative bark mulch or stone, or will wash out grass seed and cut a trench or rut in your yard. The purpose of a Lawnsaver is to keep water, which is draining off your roof and through your gutter system, from cutting a trench or rut(s) in your yard.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING
  • 1. FIG. 1—This view outlines the location of the cut-out areas, fold seams, and punch holes on a flat rectangular (11⅞″×16″) piece of 0.032 gauge aluminum used in the fabrication and assembly processes of this invention.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • Lawnsavers are fabricated from a flat piece of 0.032 gauge aluminum measuring 11⅞″×16″. The holes in the Lawnsaver are made by a “deep throat” metal punch. With the punch, 27 separate 5/16″ diameter holes are made for the water to sprinkle out. Lawnsavers are fabricated by making 5 bends with a brake (common in the siding or construction industry). Two seams are fastened together with (2) aluminum ⅛″ rivets. The Lawnsaver is attached by 4 screws to the end of a downspout.
  • To assemble a Lawnsaver: (See FIG. 1)
  • Step 1: With a metal shear, remove cut out #1, #2, #3 and #4.
Step 2: Punch 27 holes (see FIG. 1A).
    Step 3: Fold 3 sides at a 90 degree angle (See FIGS. 1C, D, E).
    Step 4: Fold 2 corners at a 90 degree angle (See FIGS. 1F, G).
Step 5: Drill ⅛ inch hole in each corner (See FIG. 1B).
Step 6: Install ⅛ inch rivet in each corner.

Claims (3)

1. I claim the Lawnsaver is made of 0.032 gauge aluminum.
2. I claim the Lawnsaver has 27 separate 5/16 inch holes.
3. I claim the Lawnsaver greatly reduces damage caused to lawns and landscaping caused by water discharged from downspouts.
