Abstract

The invention is a golfing accessory to provide a training device to develop golf swing consistency, golfing muscle development, toning and warming up exercises. It has a core length with a first end and a second end. Proximal to the first end is a handle. The second end terminates in a weighted tip. Placed in the midsection of the core length is an umbrella. The umbrella may be folded compactly to the central shaft. Proximal to the second end is a compacted resistance device which is a fin device with struts and ribs. The resistance device may be open to become operational or stored closed. When the resistance device is opened and the umbrella is folded compactly the opened resistance devices provides a impedance that the golfer may act against for his golf swing development.

Description

    FIELD OF INVENTION
  • The invention is in the field of golf accessories. In particular the invention is concerned with golf umbrellas wherein the golf umbrella has a permanent attachment that, when activated, is used to provide air resistance in training to develop and maintain consistency in executing the golf swing.
  • BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
  • Golf is one of the few games in which an amateur can for limited times play as well as a pro. That is amateurs playing a certain hole may get a par or birdie that might match a professional's effort. However, the big difference between amateurs and professionals in golf is that professionals play at a constant high level of performance whereas an amateur plays in a hit or miss manner. For this reason there is a large art of devices to train and to improve the various strokes of the amateur golfer. Likewise, the equipment of the golfer has to be limited to that which can be easily carried in a golf bag. The typical golfer carries a series of clubs, both woods and irons as well as gloves, tees, towels and so forth. Many golfers like to carry an umbrella for protection against the sun and rain, or for use during unplanned waiting times.
  • Many amateurs and professional golfers warm up by using various weighted devices to loosen muscles before playing. Commonly such devices are a “donut” shaped weight that slides down the shaft of a golf club and is used to warm up prior to play. The present invention is a combination umbrella and swing resistance device, which device will provide a unique method to train, develop, and maintain important muscles critical to the golf swing and act as a warm up device.
  • This information provided an understanding of a problem of golfers and suggest a possible solution. That is, if some of the golf accessories in the golfers bag would had more than one use that golfer would have more space in his golf bag. The present invention is a combination umbrella and swing resistance device, which devices will provide warm-up swings for the golfer.
  • The prior art teaches to types of golf accessories that are related to the present invention. See U.S. Pat. Nos. 6,409,611, 5,261,434 and 4,790,338. These patents teach the combination a a ball retrieving device with an umbrella. Likewise, U.S. Pat. Nos. 6,881,156, D468,790.6,238,299, and 5,571,046 teach the addition of a multiple vane device that may be attached to an ordinary gulf club to provide resistance for warm up and training. These patent are representative of the art and nor not intended to be an exhaustive review of the art. What is not taught in these series of patents is the combination of a compactable vane device that is used in a unit combination with a golf umbrella.
  • The present invention is a practical golf training and rain protection accessory combining an umbrella and an air resistance device in a single construct. The air resistance device is activated using a push/pull or automatic open/close system with fins, baffles or paddles made of plastic foldable slates or cloth material such as nylon, canvas or such fabric to create air resistance for small and large muscle development and swing consistency. The invention provides a practical way to develop and maintain the small supporting muscles that are essential in executing finesse shots, as well as, support for the larger muscles used in a power swing.
  • SUMMERY OF INVENTION
  • The invention is a golfing accessory to provide a training device to develop golf swing consistency, golfing muscle development, toning and warming up exercises. It has a core length with a first end and a second end. Proximal to the first end is a handle. The second end terminates in a weighted tip. Placed in the midsection of the core length are the constructs of ribs and cover that is an umbrella. The umbrella may be folded compactly to the central shaft. Proximal to the second end is a compacted resistance device which is a fin device with struts and ribs. The resistance device may be open to become operational or stored closed. When said resistance device is opened and the umbrella is folded compactly the opened resistance devices provides a impedance that the golfer may act against for his warm-up swings.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
  • FIG. 1 shows the golf umbrella accessory device folded for transport and storage.
  • FIG. 2 shows the golf umbrella accessory device with umbrella canopy opened.
  • FIG. 3 shows the golf umbrella accessory device with canopy folded. Fin construct is shown open.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF FIGURES
  • FIG. 1 shows the golf umbrella accessory device folded for transport and storage. The device 101 has a core length 103 with a first end 115 and a second end 117. Handle 113 is placed near first end 115. In midsection of core length 103 is umbrella canopy 105 (folded) and retained in place with a Velcro™ binding 107. Second end 117 has a weighted tip 111. Between canopy 105 and weighted tip 111 is folded fin construct 109.
  • FIG. 2 shows the golf umbrella accessory device 111 with opened umbrella canopy 105 with the constructs of ribs 119 and cover 121 for an umbrella opened so that the device 111 can be used as an umbrella. The folded fin construct 109 remains folded.
  • FIG. 3 shows the golf umbrella accessory device 111 with canopy 105 folded and retained in place with a Velcro™ bindings 107. Open fin construct 109 is an air resistance device. Fin device is made of webs 115 and foldable struts and ribs 113. Fin ribs 113 hold fin webs 115 are opened providing resistance when the accessory device is used as a training tool.
