Description
June 11, 1935. A. ZADEK ET AL FLEXIBLE HANDLE FOR RATTLES Filed Deg. l, 1934 INVENTOR 5' BY v ' ZZfiw ATTORNEY.
Patented June 11, 1935 UNITED STATES.
PATENT oFFIcE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to toy rattles with flexible handles and has for its object to provide a rattle which may be activated by the slightest movement of the handle.
We accomplish this by means of the construction and arrangement of parts. defined in the claims and disclosed in detail in the specification and drawing in Which- Fig. 1 shows the rattle partly in section, and
Fig. 2 the union by means of which the handle may be assembled.
Referring to the drawing, I and 2 are suitably shaped and decorated heads of the rattle made of celluloid or the like and each containing stones 3, the impact of which on the celluloid walls provides the rattling sound. In the present case the heads are circular in cross-section and each has a projecting hollow pin 4 over which the end of a flexible, e. g., rubber tube 5, dis pulled. The tubes 5 and 6 are held from; slipping ed the pins by means of thimbles l, 8 cemented to the heads I, 2 and gripping the rubber tubes 5, 6 around the pins 4.
The handle is constituted by the tubes 5, 6 and by a tube 9 bent into a substantially circular shaped grip. The handle and the grip are held together by means of a union of celluloid or the like. The union consists of a substantially ball-shaped central part It! having three or four radially projecting nipples ll, l2, l3, I l. The lower ends of tubes 5 and 6 are frictionally held on nipples H and I2 projecting upward from the upper half of ball l0, and' the two ends of tube 9 are similarly held by nipples l3 and I 4 projecting downward from the lower half of the ball. The points of cone nection between the nipples H-M and the ball I!) are bulging as indicated at Hi, the rubber tubes being pulled down to IE.
It will be apparent that violent motion may be imparted to the rattle heads by grasping the grip portion 9 of the handle, since the two por- 5 tions of the handle may be flexed with respect to the head and also with respect to one another around a rigid fulcrum constituted by the union. The structure may be readily assembled, is light and the union [0 is large enough so that it 10 cannot be swallowed by a child who may detach it from the handle tubing. The grip portion 9 of the handle is short whereby it will be suificiently rigid without the insertion of stiffening means, The flexible tubing 5, 6 may be made 15 long enough to insure flexibility of thelwhole structure.
What We claim is:
1. A rattle comprising a plurality of heads, a pin projecting from each head, a flexible tube 20 held on each pin, a hollow ball-shaped union having nipples projecting from its upper'half forthe free ends of the tubes, another flexible tube, and two nipples projecting from the lower half of the union for the ends of the last mentioned flexible tubing.
2. A rattle comprising a head provided with a nipple and a handle, the latter comprising an intermediate union provided with oppositely projecting nipples, a link of flexible tubing attach- 30 ably connected at its ends to the nipple of the head and to a nipple of the union,,and a loopshaped grip offlexible tubing attachably connected at, its ends-to the remaining'nipples of. the union.
