Description
May 28, 1935. H. F. CARLSTON 2,002,766
PINCUSHION ADVERTI SING DEVICE Filed Aug. 16, 1933 INVENTOR ja z gwa Patented May 28, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The present invention relates generally to advertising novelties, and has particular reference to a pin cushion advertising novelty for use in connection with sewing machines, so that the operator of the machine may have a handy utility article in position for instant use. i
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a novel fabric device that may be either wrapped about a section of the machine in a convenient position, or it may be hung from the spool spindle of the machine.
It is a further object of the present invention to provide a novel advertising device as well as one of utility, that will displace the sewing sample fabricated by the salesman when demonstrating sewing machines to a prospective purchaser.
' A still further object of the invention is the provision of a novelty of the class disclosed that is neat in appearance, compact, and simple in construction.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent with reference to the sub- V joined specification and the accompanying one sheet of drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a sewing machine shown in-dot-and-dash lines and illustrating the preferred form of my invention as applied to a handy section of the sewing machine;
Figure 2 is an enlarged detail view showing the preferred form of my invention and illustrating the construction of the wrap-around section of the device; and showing the tying strings, advertising space, etc;
Figure 3 is a side elevation of a sewing machine illustrating another form of my novelty as applied to the spool spindle of the machine; and
Figure 4 is an enlarged elevation showing a modified circular form for hanging on the spoo spindle of the machine.
Referring particularly to the drawing and es-- pecially to Figure 1 thereof, my improved novelty 5 is shown wrapped about a handy section 6 of a sewing machine I, said novelty consisting of the main rectangularly shaped section 8 of cotton fabric or like material having side binding strips 9 and Ill and end binding strips I I and I2,
and with the side strips 9 and III terminating in tying strings I3, I4, I5, and I6, one end section I! of the fabric body being reserved for advertising matter of any suitable character.
The article is wrapped around a sectionof the sewing machine, as shown in Figure 1, and tied in place in a convenient position so that the advertising matter will be conveniently displayed to view, and'also in a handy position for the operator of the machine to place pins, needles, and the like for instant use.
In the forms shown in Figures 3 and 4 the material I8 is cut circular, binding strip I9, and loop 20 being provided to hang the same on the spool spindle of the sewing machine I.
It will thus be observed that I have provided a novel article which combines a utility article as well .as an advertising novelty, and one that will always be in a convenient position on the machine whereby pins and the like may be kept in position foruse at all times. It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to material, size, shape, and arrangement may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims.
I claimand desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States the fol1owing:'
1. A combined advertising novelty and pin cushion to be attached to the sewing machine, and embodying a rectangularly shaped cotton fabric body section having all edges bound and stitched, and the side sections of said binding projecting beyond the body section and providing means for attaching the body section to a portion of the sewing machine.
2. A combined advertising novelty and pin cushion adapted to be attached to a sewing machine and embodying a cotton fabric body section having its side and end edges bound and stitched and providing a pin cushion, and the side bindings thereof projecting outwardly and beyond the end bindings and providing attaching strips adapting the same for attachment to a portion of the sewing machine.
HENRY F. CARLSTON.
