7 Claims.
This invention relates to containers and to a method of making the same, and more specifically to dispensing containers.
In general, it is an object of the invention to provide a device of the character described, which will efficiently perform the purpose for which it is intended, which is simple and economical of construction, which can be expeditiously and conveniently manipulated and which is readily manufactured and assembled.
Another object of the invention is to provide a container and a blank therefor, which may be easily opened to give a dispensing aperture, and which permits intermittent use by means of a movable guard for the aperture.
Another object is to provide a lined or wrapped container which prevents seepage of the contents of the inner device into the outer.
Another object is to provide a method of assembling and filling a lined or ,Wrapped container, which has a rupturable dispensing portion spaced from that portion through which 'it is filled.
Other objects of the invention will in part be obvious and will in part appear hereinafter.
The invention accordingly comprises. the several steps and the relation" and order of one or more of such steps with respect to each of the others, and the article possessing the features, properties, and the' relation of elements, which are exemplified in the following detailed disclosure, and the scope of the application of which will be indicated in the claims.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention, reference sho d be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a blank from which a device embodying one form of theinvention, may be constructed; v
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a. device formed Fig. 3 is a plan view of a blank from which a modification of the device shown in Fig. 2 may be constructed; and
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the device utilizing the blank shown in Fig. 3.
In the drawing the numeral I0 refers to a blank for a container. The score line II, defining an area l2 thereon, is so positioned that when the blank is folded a .certain-section i 3 will overlie the area l2. The area l2 may be in a folding flap I l and the seotionl3 may,,be
a cover section. or maybe a part-of cover,-se;c-'
tion IS. A score line l6 may set off" the section l3 at least in part from the remainder of the blank so that upon the severance thereof the section I3 may be moved away from the area II. It may be hingedly moved on the line H. There may be a tucking flap l8 associated with the section l3 and there may be a slit or severable part l9 into which the flap may be inserted.
There may be one or more score lines such as 20, setting off areas 2!, which will be in registry with the area l2. The area l2 may be slightly smaller than the area 20 over which it is to be superimposed.
The blank is assembled in any convenient manner to form the carton shown in Fig. 2, the contents being inserted before the final sealing. If desired, the flap [8 may be held against the adjacent side .wall of the carton by a super imposed seal. When it is desired to obtain the contents or a part thereof, the section I3 is raised, tearing at the same time, if necessary, the score line I6. The score line I l and any other score line 20 thereunder, is ruptured so as to make an, aperture into the container. If these do not completely surround the areas I2 and 2|, the latter will remain depending from the wall of which they formed a part and will not become mixed with the contents. After a portion of the contents have been removed the section [3 may be moved back over the aperture and secured in iii.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the'cover section l5 has no sub-section set off and the tucking-in flap I8 is shown as attached on the long edge. The slit I9 is located to receive the flap. The blank I0 is folded in any suitable way to form a container, one end being left open and the cover section standing open, as shown, for example, in Fig. 4. In this condition it serves asa casing 22 for an inner container or liner 23, which is inserted through the open end as shown in Fig. 4. The casing and liner are provided with an arrangement whereby the user of the device may open up an aperture extending through both. This arrangement may comprise an annular rivet-like member 24, which is caused to pierce a section of the casing and the inner liner in some suitable position, for example, in the wall 25 upon which is to be superimposed the cover section IS. The portion of the wall severed from the remainder thereof'by said member may be frictionally retained in place. Whether it is retained or not, the co fll' g may be semi-permanently placed across the aperture or ruptured portion. The
place by inserting the tucking flap l8 in the slit member 24 may be caused to grip together the severed edges, thereby preventing leakage of the contents of the package between the casing and the liner. The device may be filled through the open end which preferably is spaced from the wall having the member 24, the carton and wrapper sealed and the cover 15 placed over the wall 25. The tucking-in flap is inserted through the slit [9' and may lie between the carton and the wrapper.
When it is desired to obtain certain of the con- .tents the cover I5 is raised, the portion retained by the member 24 is removed therefrom in any obvious fashion and the contents secured. Thereafter the cover may be again placed over the area defined by the member 24.
Since certain changes in carrying out the above process and certain modifications in the article which embody the invention may be made without departing from its scope, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing, shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetween.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
i. In. a device the character described, the combination comprising a wall having a plurality of layers and areas in registry in said layers adapted to be independently removed, a cover movably overlying said areas, and means adapted to hold said cover in closed position after said cover has once been movably opened.
2. A casing and a liner therefor, each having an aperture in registry with an aperture in the other, the edges of said apertures being attached to each other, said casing being provided with a movable cover section adapted to overlie said apertures.
3. A container, a wrapping therefor, and means piercing said container and said wrapping and attaching the pierced portions thereof together, and a movable cover section adapted to overlie said piercing means.
4. A container, a wrapping therefor, and means piercing said container and said wrapping, attaching the pierced portions thereof together and retaining in place any severed portion thereof, and a movable cover section adapted to 'overlie said severed portion.
5. A blank for a container, comprising an area set ofi at least in part by a score line, a cover section including a tucking-in flap adapted upon the formation of said container to overlie said area, and a score line setting off said section at least in part from the remainder of said blank, said blank having a slit adapted for receiving said tucking-in flap.
6. A blank for a container, comprising a plurality of sections adapted to be superimposed, score lines in and defining at least portions of said sections adapted to be in registry, at least in part, when said sections are superimposed, another section adapted to be superimposed over said plurality, and a tucking flap associated with said other section.
7. A blank for a container, comprising a plu rality of sections adapted to be superimposed, score lines in and defining at ieast portions of said sections adapted to be in registry, at least u in part, when said sections are superimposed,
