Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention [0001]
  • The present invention pertains to the covering of a headrest and a visor, and more particularly to a cover that can be used to cover both the headrest and the visor found in a vehicle. Also, the present invention pertains particularly to a headrest cover that is inflatable and to a visor cover that comprises a plurality of extendable portions. Furthermore, the present invention pertains particularly to a cover with an outer surface that comprises identifying indicia having parts of different light reflectivity. The invention has a particular application in covering a headrest and a visor in instances where there is a need to cover the headrest or the visor, so as protect the surface of the headrest or the visor from particles and other substances, or so as to provide on the headrest or the visor, identifying indicia having parts of different light reflectivity. Also, the present invention has application in providing an inflatable headrest cover so as to afford comfort or safety and in providing a visor cover with a plurality of extendable portions so as to provide additional area of light shielding coverage.   • 2. Description of Related Art [0003]
  • Vehicles generally are provided with a visor and a headrest. As the user touches the visor with his or her hand and the headrest with his or her head, dirt and particles may accumulate on both the visor and the headrest. There is a need for an apparatus that protects both the visor and the headrest from dirt and particles. [0004]
  • Furthermore, headrests generally offer a degree of protection that may not be sufficient in certain situations or accidents. There is a need to provide additional protection to the vehicle occupant via an improved headrest cover. [0005]
  • Also, the visor is often insufficient in size to provide light shielding in many situations. In such situations, there is a need for an improved apparatus that provides a greater area of light shielding. [0006]
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention provides an improved apparatus for covering a headrest and/or a visor so that greater convenience, safety, and utility are realized. [0007]
  • In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus comprises a cover for covering a headrest and a visor. Also, an outer surface of the cover may comprise identifying indicia having parts of different light reflectivity. [0008]
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus comprises a cover for covering a headrest and a visor, wherein the cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein a first one of the plurality of openings provides an opening through which the headrest is inserted and covered and wherein the first one or another one of the plurality of openings provides an opening through which the visor is inserted and covered. In another embodiment of the present invention, at least one of the plurality of openings comprises an elastic member. Again, an outer surface of the cover described above may comprise identifying indicia having parts of different light reflectivity. [0009]
  • In another embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus comprises a cover for covering a headrest and a visor, wherein the headrest comprises a plurality of surfaces and the visor comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein the cover covers at least a portion of one of the plurality of surfaces of the headrest and covers at least a portion of one of the plurality of surfaces of the visor. In another embodiment of the present invention, the cover further comprises an attaching means for attaching the cover to the headrest and the visor. Again, an outer surface of the cover described above may comprise identifying indicia having parts of different light reflectivity. [0010]

  • In another embodiment of the present invention, an apparatus comprises a cover for covering a headrest, wherein the cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of the plurality of openings provides an opening through which the headrest is inserted and covered.   • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
  • With reference to FIG. 1, a first embodiment of the present invention is indicated generally by the [0051] reference numeral 3. The cover 3 is for covering headrest 2 and visor 1. Cover 3 comprises a plurality of openings 4 and 5, wherein opening 5 provides an opening through which headrest 2 is inserted and covered and opening 4 provides an opening through which visor 1 is inserted and covered. As exemplified in FIG. 2, openings 4 and 5 may comprise an elastic member 6. The elastic member may be made in any way, shape, or form so as to provide elasticity.
  • Of course, the present invention may be applied any headresting means for resting and cushioning a user's head and a light shielding means for shielding light. Just as an example, the headrest and headresting means may include headrests for automobiles and headresting portion of a child's safety seat. [0052]
  • Alternatively, as exemplified in FIGS. 3 and 4, [0053] headrest 2 comprises a plurality of surfaces (back surface shown) and visor 1 comprises a plurality of surfaces (front surface shown), and cover 3 covers at least a portion of one of the plurality of surfaces of headrest 2 and covers at least a portion of one of the plurality of surfaces of visor 1. The specific way of attaching may be varied. For example, as exemplified in FIG. 4, cover 3 may comprise a pair of attaching means 7 with a velcro-like surface for attaching cover 3 to headrest 2 and visor 1.
  • Another embodiment of the present invention, as exemplified in FIG. 5, comprises a [0054] cover 30 for covering a headrest 20, wherein the cover 30 is inflatable. The size, shape and location of the inflation of cover 30 may be varied as needed. The material used to inflate may be air, liquid, or another type of material, as needed.
  • Inflation means [0055] 80 and 90 is for inflating the cover. The particular size, shape, and type of inflation means may also be varied, as needed. For example, inflation means 80 may be blown up manually by a user, whereas inflation means 90 may be hooked up to an artificial inflation means (e.g., air bag system). Moreover, just as an example, the size and amount of automatic inflation (in case of an accident, for example) may also be predetermined and adjusted by a user to optimize and customize the characteristic of inflation for different users and/or for different circumstances.
  • As in the above-described embodiments, the [0056] cover 30 may comprise a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of the plurality of openings—opening 50 in FIG. 5—provides an opening through which headrest 20 is inserted and covered. Also, as in the above-described embodiments, the opening 50 may comprise an elastic member 60.
  • Alternatively, as exemplified in FIGS. 6 and 7, [0057] headrest 20 comprises a plurality of surfaces (front surface shown), and cover 30 covers at least a portion of one of the plurality of surfaces of headrest 20. The specific way of attaching may be varied. The inflation means could be placed in any manner, as needed. As exemplified in FIG. 7, cover 30 may comprise a pair of attaching means 70 with a velcro-like surface for attaching cover 30 to headrest 20.
  • Another embodiment of the present invention, as exemplified in FIG. 8, comprises a [0058] cover 300 for covering a visor 100, wherein the cover 300 comprises a plurality of extendable portions 800, connected by hinges 900. Of course, the number, shape, size, and type of extendable portions, and their manner of connection may be varied, as needed. Furthermore, each of the plurality of extendable portions may permit different levels of light to pass through: from no light to a predetermined amount of light. The extendable portions effectively increase the amount of area of light shielding.
  • Similar to the above-described embodiments, cover [0059] 300 may comprise of a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of the plurality of openings—opening 400—provides an opening through which the visor 100 is inserted and covered. Again, opening 400 may comprise an elastic member 600.
  • Alternatively, as exemplified in FIG. 9, cover [0060] 300 may be attached to visor 100 via attachment means 700, which may, for example, be a velcro-like material. The specific way of attaching may be varied.
  • Another embodiment of the present invention, as exemplified in FIG. 10, wherein a plurality of objects may be attached to the cover, comprises a plurality of attaching [0061] means 801, 802, 803 a, 803 b, 804, and 805 for attaching the plurality of objects to the cover. The type of object and the type, style, shape of the attaching means may be varied, as needed. Just as an example, 801 could be an identification card or picture holder; 802 could be an eyeglass case holder; 803 a could be a writing pad holder; 803 b could be a pen or pencil holder; 804 could be a mirror holder; and 805 could be a phone or beeper holder. For sake of brevity detailed description of opening 400, elastic member 600, hinges 900, and attaching means 700 (FIG. 11) are omitted but are similar to the corresponding parts in the embodiments described above.
  • FIGS. [0062] 12-22 correspond to FIG. 1-11 and comprises an additional element of indicia 12 having parts of different light reflectivity. The embodiments of the present invention directed to FIGS. 12-22 has a particular application in instances where there is a need to provide identifying information via indicia 12. For sake of brevity a description of the other reference numbers of FIGS. 12-22 are omitted but are similar to the corresponding reference numbers of FIGS. 1-11. The way in which the indicia is created or is applied to the cover may be varied, as needed. Also, the particular information provided may vary, as needed (e.g., the information could be symbolic, alphanumeric, symmetric, asymmetric, repeating, or nonrepeating).
  • While the present invention has been shown and described with reference to preferred embodiments presently contemplated as best modes for carrying out the invention, it is understood that various changes maybe made in adapting the invention to different embodiments without departing from the broader inventive concepts disclosed herein and comprehended by the claims which follow. Claims (92)

What is claimed is:
1. An apparatus, comprising:
a cover for covering a headrest and a visor.
2. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein a first one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said headrest is inserted and covered and wherein said first one or another one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said visor is inserted and covered.
3. An apparatus according to claim 2, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic member.
4. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein said headrest comprises a plurality of surfaces and said visor comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said cover covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said headrest and covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said visor.
5. An apparatus according to claim 5, wherein said cover further comprises an attaching means for attaching said cover to said headrest and said visor.
6. An apparatus comprising:
a cover for covering a headrest, wherein said cover is inflatable.
7. An apparatus according to claim 6, further comprising an inflation means for inflating said cover.
8. An apparatus according to claim 7, wherein said cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said headrest is inserted and covered.
9. An apparatus according to claim 8, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic member.
10. An apparatus according to claim 7, wherein said headrest comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said cover covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said headrest.
11. An apparatus according to claim 10, wherein said cover further comprises an attaching means for attaching said cover to said headrest.
12. An apparatus, comprising:
a cover for covering a visor, wherein said cover comprises a plurality of extendable portions.
13. An apparatus according to claim 12, wherein each of said plurality of extendable portions permit no light or a predetermined amount of light to pass through.
14. An apparatus according to claim 13, wherein said cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said visor is inserted and covered.
15. An apparatus according to claim 14, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic member.
16. An apparatus according to claim 13, wherein said visor comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said cover covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said visor.
17. An apparatus according to claim 16, wherein said cover further comprises an attaching means for attaching said cover to said visor.
18. An apparatus according to claim 12, wherein a plurality of objects may be attached to said cover and wherein said apparatus further comprises:
a plurality of object attaching means for attaching said plurality of objects to said cover.
19. An apparatus according to claim 18, wherein said cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said visor is inserted and covered.
20. An apparatus according to claim 19, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic member.
21. An apparatus according to claim 18, wherein said visor comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said cover covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said visor.
22. An apparatus according to claim 21, wherein said cover further comprises an attaching means for attaching said cover to said visor.
23. An apparatus according to claim 1, wherein an outer surface of said cover comprises identifying indicia having parts of different light reflectivity.
24. An apparatus according to claim 23, wherein said cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein a first one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said headrest is inserted and covered and wherein said first one or another one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said visor is inserted and covered.
25. An apparatus according to claim 24, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic member.
26. An apparatus according to claim 24, wherein said headrest comprises a plurality of surfaces and said visor comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said cover covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said headrest and covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said visor.
27. An apparatus according to claim 26, wherein said cover further comprises an attaching means for attaching said cover to said headrest and said visor.
28. An apparatus according to claim 6, wherein an outer surface of said cover comprises identifying indicia having parts of different light reflectivity.
29. An apparatus according to claim 28, further comprising an inflation means for inflating said cover.
30. An apparatus according to claim 29, wherein said cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said headrest is inserted and covered.
31. An apparatus according to claim 30, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic member.
32. An apparatus according to claim 29, wherein said headrest comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said cover covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said headrest.
33. An apparatus according to claim 32, wherein said cover further comprises an attaching means for attaching said cover to said headrest.
34. An apparatus according to claim 12, wherein an outer surface of said cover comprises identifying indicia having parts of different light reflectivity.
35. An apparatus according to claim 34, wherein each of said plurality of extendable portions permit no light or a predetermined amount of light to pass through.
36. An apparatus according to claim 35, wherein said cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said visor is inserted and covered.
37. An apparatus according to claim 36, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic member.
38. An apparatus according to claim 35, wherein said visor comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said cover covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said visor.
39. An apparatus according to claim 38, wherein said cover further comprises an attaching means for attaching said cover to said visor.
40. An apparatus according to claim 35, wherein a plurality of objects may be attached to said cover and wherein said apparatus further comprises:
a plurality of object attaching means for attaching said plurality of objects to said cover.
41. An apparatus according to claim 40, wherein said cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said visor is inserted and covered.
42. An apparatus according to claim 41, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic member.
43. An apparatus according to claim 40, wherein said visor comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said cover covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said visor.
44. An apparatus according to claim 43, wherein said cover further comprises an attaching means for attaching said cover to said visor.
45. An apparatus, comprising:
a covering means for covering a headresting means for resting and cushioning a user's head and a light shielding means for shielding light.
46. An apparatus according to claim 45, wherein said covering means comprises a plurality of openings, wherein a first one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said headresting means is inserted and covered and wherein said first one or another one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said light shielding means is inserted and covered.
47. An apparatus according to claim 46, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic means for providing elasticity.
48. An apparatus according to claim 45, wherein said headresting means comprises a plurality of surfaces and said light shielding means comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said covering means covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said headresting means and covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said light shielding means.
49. An apparatus according to claim 48, wherein said covering means further comprises an attaching means for attaching said covering means to said headresting means and said light shielding means.
50. An apparatus comprising:
a covering means for covering a headresting means for resting and cushioning a user's head, wherein said covering means is inflatable.
51. An apparatus according to claim 50, further comprising an inflation means for inflating said covering means.
52. An apparatus according to claim 51, wherein said covering means comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said headresting means is inserted and covered.
53. An apparatus according to claim 52, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic means for providing elasticity.
54. An apparatus according to claim 51, wherein said headresting means comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said covering means covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said headresting means.
55. An apparatus according to claim 54, wherein said covering means further comprises an attaching means for attaching said covering means to said headresting means.
56. An apparatus, comprising:
a covering means for covering a light shielding means for shielding light, wherein said covering means comprises a plurality of extendable means for extending a size of said covering means.
57. An apparatus according to claim 56, wherein each of said plurality of extendable means permit no light or a predetermined amount of light to pass through.
58. An apparatus according to claim 57, wherein said covering means comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said light shielding means is inserted and covered.
59. An apparatus according to claim 58, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic means for providing elasticity.
60. An apparatus according to claim 57, wherein said light shielding means comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said covering means covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said light shielding means.
61. An apparatus according to claim 60, wherein said covering means further comprises an attaching means for attaching said covering means to said light shielding means.
62. An apparatus according to claim 57, wherein a plurality of objects may be attached to said cover and wherein said apparatus further comprises:
a plurality of object attaching means for attaching said plurality of objects to said cover.
63. An apparatus according to claim 62, wherein said covering means comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said light shielding means is inserted and covered.
64. An apparatus according to claim 63, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic means for providing elasticity.
65. An apparatus according to claim 62, wherein said light shielding means comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said covering means covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said light shielding means.
66. An apparatus according to claim 65, wherein said covering means further comprises an attaching means for attaching said covering means to said light shielding means.
67. An apparatus according to claim 45, wherein an outer surf ace of said covering means comprises identifying indicia having parts of different light reflectivity.

An apparatus according to claim 67, wherein said covering means comprises a plurality of openings, wherein a first one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said headresting means is inserted and covered and wherein said first one or another one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said light shielding means is inserted and covered.
69. An apparatus according to claim 68, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic means for providing elasticity.

An apparatus according to claim 67, wherein said headresting means comprises a plurality of surfaces and said light shielding means comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said covering means covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said headresting means and covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said light shielding means.
71. An apparatus according to claim 70, wherein said covering means further comprises an attaching means for attaching said covering means to said headresting means and said light shielding means.
72. An apparatus according to claim 50, wherein an outer surface of said covering means comprises identifying indicia having parts of different light reflectivity.
73. An apparatus according to claim 72, further comprising an inflation means for inflating said covering means.
74. An apparatus according to claim 73, wherein said covering means comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said headresting means is inserted and covered.
75. An apparatus according to claim 74, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings comprises an elastic means for providing elasticity.
76. An apparatus according to claim 73, wherein said headresting means comprises a plurality of surfaces and wherein said covering means covers at least a portion of one of said plurality of surfaces of said headresting means.

a cover for covering a headrest, wherein said cover comprises portions providing magnetic force so as to provide magnetic therapy.

91. An apparatus according to claim 89, wherein said cover comprises a plurality of openings, wherein at least one of said plurality of openings provides an opening through which said headrest is inserted and covered.
