Abstract
The guard includes a body 1 and a device 2 for fastening the body to the head rest of a motor vehicle seat so as to support the driver or passenger's head. The body has a recessed upper portion 12 for supporting the occipital region, a recessed lower portion 13 for supporting the nuchal region, a soft ridge portion 10 transversely disposed between the portions 12,13 for supporting the nuchal fossa and two shoulder portions 11 bilaterally extended from the upper and lower supporting portions and the soft ridge portion for covering over the temporal regions and supporting on the driver or passenger's shoulders. A coupling portion 14 at the back provides a connection (eg hook and loop tape) to the fastening device which may be a belt arranged to surround the existing headrest.
Description
HEAD GUARD FOR MOTOR VEHICLES
The present invention relates to a head guard for mounting on the head rest of a motor vehicle seat to protect the head of the driver or passenger.
The driver's seat or the front seat of a motor vehicle is generally equipped with a head rest for supporting the driver or passenger's head. As the head rest can only be adjusted vertically, it can not comfortably fit different persons. In case a traffic accident happens, the driver or passenger' 8 head will be force to hit against the head rest, causing the head or neck hurt.
The present invention has been accomplished under the circumstances in view. It is one object of the present invention to provide a head guard for supporting the driver or passenger's head on the head rest of a motor vehicle seat which can be adjusted horizontally as well as vertically to fit different users. It is another object of the present invention to provide a head guard for supporting the driver or passenger's head on the head rest of a motor vehicle which is comfortable in use. It is still another object of the present invention to provide a head guard for supporting the driver or passenger's head on the head rest of a motor vehicle which absorb shocks from the head during a traffic impact.
To achieve the aforesaid objects, there is provided a head guard comprised of a guard body and a fastening belt for fastening the guard body to the head rest of a motor vehicle seat to support the driver or passenger's head, wherein the guard body has a recessed upper supporting portion at the front side for supporting the occipital region, a recessed lower supporting portion at the front side below the recessed upper supporting portion for supporting the nuchal region, a soft ridge portion transversely disposed between the upper supporting portion and the lower supporting portion for supporting the nuchal fossa, two shoulder portions bilaterally extended from the upper and lower supporting portions and the soft ridge portion for covering over the temporal regions and supporting on the driver or passenger's shoulders, and a coupling portion at a back side thereof for connection to the fastening belt; the fastening belt has a coupling portion in the middle detachably connected to the coupling portion of the guard body, and two connecting portions at two opposite ends for connection to each other to fasten the fastening belt to the head rest of a motor vehicle seat.
The present invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the annexed drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is an exploded view of a head guard according to one embodiment of the present invention;
Fig. 2 is a front view of the guard body of the head guard shown in Figure 1;
Fig. 3 is a side view of the head guard shown in Figure 1;
Fig. 4 shows the head guard of Figure 1 installed in the head rest of a motor vehicle seat to support the driver's head;
Fig. 5 is an exploded view of an alternate form of the present invention;
Fig. 6 is a side view of the alternate form shown in Figure 5; and
Fig. 7 is an installed view showing the alternate form of Figure 5 installed in the head rest of a motor vehicle seat.
Referring to Figures 1, 2, and 3, a head guard in accordance with the present invention is comprised of a guard body 1 molded from elastic material for fitting around the back part of the head, and a fastening belt 2 for attaching the guard body 1 to the head rest of a motor vehicle seat. The guard body 1 comprises a recessed upper supporting portion 12 at the front side for supporting the occipital region, a recessed lower supporting portion 13 at the front side below the recessed upper supporting portion for supporting the nuchal region, a soft ridge portion 10 transversely disposed at the front side between the upper supporting portion 12 and the lower supporting portion 13 for supporting the nuchal fossa, two shoulder portions 11 bilaterally extended from the upper and lower supporting portions 12 and 13 and the soft ridge portion 10 for supporting on the user's shoulders and covering over the temporal regions, and a coupling portion 14 at the back side for fastening the fastening belt 2. The fastening belt 2 has a coupling portion 22 in the middle for connection to the coupling portion 14 of the guard body 1, and two opposite connecting portions 21 at two opposite ends for connection to each other to fasten the fastening belt 2 to the head rest of a motor vehicle seat. The coupling portions 14 and 22 include a hook tape and a loop tape so that they can be detachably connected together. The connecting portions 21 of the fastening belt 2 can also be arranged in the same manner, i.e., one hook tape at one end and one loop tape at the other end.
Referring to Figure 4, when the coupling portion 22 of the fastening belt 2 is fastened to the coupling portion 14 of the guard body 1, the two connecting portions 21 of the fastening belt 2 is fastened together around the head rest 31 of a motor vehicle seat 3 in a horizontal position to hold the guard body 1 in a vertical position, so that the driver or passenger can rest the head on the guard body 1.
Because the guard body 1 is molded from elastic material, it absorb shocks when the driver or passenger is vibrated during a traffic impact.
Figures 5, 6, and 7 show an alternate form of the present invention. The structure of this alternate form is similar to that shown in Figures from 1 to 4, however the size of the guard body of this alternate form is relatively bigger than that shown in Figures 1 through 4 and, the fastening belt 2 is for fastening to the head rest 31 of the motor vehicle seat 3 in a vertical position.
It is to be understood that the drawings are designed for purposes of illustration only, and are not intended as a definition of the limits and scope of the invention disclosed. For example, the ridge portion 10 may be made with a pocket for holding medicine or small personal things.
