' (iCIaiins. v (01116-164) 'This invention relates to improvements in supportedin opposed portions of the flange 3 hinges, and refers more particularly to hinges or 3a. Pivotally mounted on the pin 4, or do,
of the concealed type. It is an object of the is a curved arm 5, or 511,. the outer extremity invention to provide a strong and durable form of. which is outwardly flared as shown at 6, g 5 of hinge of this type which is cheap and simple or 6a, Extending vertically through the out- 5 to manufacture, and wherein the two hinge wardly flexed arm .extremity;6-, or 6a,, is a plates may be moved through substantially 180 sliding pin 1, or Ia; I r degrees to one another. I Formeda diagonally through opposed portions L Another object Of t e invention isito provide a of the-flange 3, or'i3a, are vertical slotted guidehinge of this type wherein the two: plates are ways 8, or 8a, which are rearwardly and out- 1.9 epeltlll'ed, an arm is pivoted in ea p t wardly inclined from one another. when the and has its outer extremity e ly mounted hinge is in open position as shown in Figures n t aperture of th other p a aml -1-, 2 and 3. The pin iis slidable' in the guideway means are provided intermediately of the ends 3a, and the pin la in the guideway ,8. Thus as R5 ofthearms for controlling their path of moveth angularity of th pIates i nd Ia, to one ment as the two plates turned relative another is varied the pins 1 and la, travel along one anothen their guideways Ba and: 8 respectively.
A further object of the inven is t0 In order to insure corresponding movement vide a hinge wherein the means for controlling bf t two r g 5,; so t t t pins 1 and the p movement of one arm is Carried 1a are at all times corresponding distances along by e Other O t for a portion of their guideways 8a and 8, and to control the their length the two arms are in vertical alignpath of movement of these arms bl i t ment at all positions of the plates relative to connecting means between them are p1-0vided 7 on anot Extending vertically from'the arm 5, or 5a, Having thus briefly Stated soiiie 9i theeblects towards its outer flexed extremity 5, or 6a, is 25 and advantages of the invention, I W111 now a Control pin 9 or 9a, which is sudable in Proceed to describe an embiidimeiii' thereof vertical control slot Illa, or ID, formed in the in detail With the aid of the gacicompanying arm 5a, or 5, intermediately of its length.
d aw in Whichi n It will thus be seen that when the hinge is Figure 1 illustrates a Iront elevation of the closed, as shown in Figures'rl 5 and 6, y Small 30 hinge When opeiiportions of the arms 5 and 5a between the con- Figures 2 and 3 are sectifms on the lines 2 2 trol pins B and 9a, which are then only a short and respectively P Figure distance apart, are in vertical alignment. As v Figure 4 is F Section on the line of the hinge is opened uniform movement of both i 5, Showing the hinge Flosed, and pins '3 and la along their guideways 8a and 8 is 35 Figures 5 and 6 are sectloils on the lines insured by the control pins 9 and So until the and respectively of Figure plates I and la are substantially in horizontal Referring to the drawings, l and la designate alignment and the hinge is fully open Then two identical vertically disposed hinge plates one the intermediate portions of the arms 5 and 5a 4 of which is shown attached to a door A and for the greater portion of their length are in 40 the other to a door frame B as by screws l3. Vertical alignment 7 Through each 9 the plates i and an t In the construction shown in the drawings, ture or 15 formed- In the constructwn the arm 5 is movable between two portions of Shown in the drawings these apertures i the arm 5a which is bifurcated. The flexed form through the Sides of the plates i and i f of the extremities 6 and 6a of the arms 5 and 5a 45 are adjacent one another when the hinge 15 m permits the provision of extensions 5b and B! at Open Positioii- Formed integral with the plates both vertical extremities of both arms. These 1 a d a a e w y disp horizontal extensions project vertically so as to form bearfianges 3 and 3a which form Walls around ings for the hinge pins 4 and 4a, and the sliding ti ns of th apertures 2 a d These fla 3 pins 3 and 8:1 for substantially their entire 50- and 3a are housed in openings C and D formed i ht in the door A and door frame B respectively. While in the foregoing the preferred construc- A ve hinge p 0 4 dS Vertie tion of the invention has been described and cally across each aperture 2, or 2a, adjacent shown it is understood alterations and modificaits open side, and the extremities of the pin are tions may be made thereto provided the said 55 the hinge, means extending from each arm slidable in a slot formedin the other arm, and guide means carried by the plates each controlling the path of movement of one of the arms.
2. A hinge comprising two apertured plates a curved arm pivoted adjacent one extremity ineach plate, both arms being of similar radius for a greater portion of their length and being.

Y
3. A hinge comprising two apertured plates, a curved arm pivoted adjacent 'one extremity in each plate, both arms being of similar radius for a greater portion of their length and being aligned with one another fora portion of their length in all positions of the hinge, means extending from each arm slidable in a slot formed in the other arm, said slots being concentric with the portions of the curved arms in which they are formed, and guideways carried by the plates controlling the path of movement of the unpivoted extremitiesof the arms. I
4. A hinge comprising 'two apertured plates, a curved arm pivoted in each plate adjacent one extremity, both arms being of the same radius for the greater portion of their length so that when the hinge is open the radial arm portions are in alignment throughout the greater portion of their length, said arms having radial slots formed therein concentric with the radial arm portions in which they are formed sothat the slots in the aligned portions arev themselves in alignment, means extending from each arm adjacent 'one extremityjof its radially curved portion slidable intheradialslot in the other arm,
and guide means carried by the plates controlling the path of movement of the unpivoted extremities of the arms.
5.A hinge comprising two plates, a curved arm pivotedin each plate, both arms being of similar radius for a greater portion of their length and being aligned with one another for a portion of their length inall positions of the hinge, means extending from each arm adjacent its extremity remote from its pivoted end slidable 'in a slot-formed in the other arm,v and guide'means in said plates each controlling the path of movement of one of the arms.
6. A' hinge r comprising two plates, a curved arm pivoted adiacent one extremity on each plate, both arms being of similar radius for a greater portion of their length and being aligned with the other arm for a-portion of their length in all positions of the'hinge, means extending from. each. arm adjacent its extremity remote'fromits pivoted end slidable in a curved slot formed in .the other arm, and guide means carried by the plates controlling the path-of movement of the unpivoted endsof the arms.
