1 Claim.
The invention aims to provide a simple and attractive display card which is constructed to aiford the effect of perspective or relief in the subject advertised, the card being specially useful for street car advertising and similar purposes.
The following specification taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, shows a preferred embodiment of the invention which, however, is to be regarded merely as illustrative. In the drawing- The single figure is a perspective view of a display card constructed in accordance with the invention.
The invention is illustrated as applied to a background sheet having an upper section I and a lower section 2 of cardboard or other suitable sheet material, the two sections in the specific embodiment which is illustrated having interposed therebetwe'en what I may term a shelf -like member consisting of an upper strip 3 and a lower strip 4 which are foldable with respect to each other, and with respect to the respectively adjacent sections I and 2 of the background sheet, to provide a shelf extending forwardly of the background sheet. This shelf may extend partially or entirely across the background sheet; in the present embodiment notches 5 are provided at the ends of the shelf, thus making it somewhat narrower than the background sheet, to facilitate the insertion of the sheet into a supporting frame of the type commonly used for holding street car display cards.
The shelf is then cut or struck out to provide one or more flaps which may be folded to extend angularly from the shelf into a position forwardly of the background sheet, these flaps carrying suitable advertising data in respect to the subject of the display card. In the illustrated embodiment, for example, two of the above flaps 6 are provided which feature the price of an article to be advertised and a further flap 1 is provided, which may be readily shaped to suggest the outline of the subject to be displayed. As shown the flap 1 is bent to portray the end of a box immediately above the shelf from which 5 it extends, and then is bent back toward the upp'er section I of the background sheet to portray the top of the box, a tongue 8 being provided which extends from the upper end of the flap 1 into engagement with the slit 9 in the background sheet, to hold flap 1 in proper position.
A display card of the above nature enables advertising data to be carried by flaps 6 or I such as above described, so as to appear in relief or perspective against the background sheet or the further advertising data which will usually be carried by the latter, the resulting display card being more likely to catch the eye, and portraying the subject to be displayed in a more effective and attractive manner.
While a specific embodiment of the invention has been described, it should be understood that many changes may be made therein without departing from its important features, within the scope of the appended claim.
A display card comprising a background sheet having upper and lower sections, and a ledge portion interposed between and connecting said sections, said ledge portion having upper and lower parts foldable into surface contact with each other and also foldable with respect to the respectively adjacent sections of the background sheet to provide a shelf-like member extending forwardly of the background sheet, said ledge portion having a flap struck out therefrom and carrying advertising data in regard to the subject to be displayed, said flap being foldable to extend angularly from the said ledge portion into a position forwardly of the background sheet.
