IMPROVEMENT IN WEAVlNG-NEEDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,774, dated January 29, 1878; application filed April 21, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY BALL, of Nashua, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Kindergarten Weaving-Needles, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a front view of a kindergarten weaving-needle, showing my improvement; Fig. 2, a side view of the same when closed to hold the weaving, and Fig. 3 a side view of the same when opened to receive the weaving.
The object of my invention is to furnish a more durable weaving-needle, which, without danger of destroying the springs, may be more easily opened by children of the kindergarten age for the insertion of the weaving material, and which will hold the material more firmly, and is less liable to get out of repair, than the needle in common use.
The needle is composed of two pieces of elastic metallic wire, a b and c d, permanently fastened together at d, and crossing each other at e. These two pieces, forming springs, are so shaped as to be separate, making a slight especially so for a child, and is liable to be opened so far as to spoil it, either by breaking one part from the other, or by destroying the elasticity of the parts, so that it fails to hold the weaving when inserted.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isl The weaving-needle composed of two metallic spring-wires, a b and c d, secured together at d, and arranged to cross each otherwat c, all substantially as described, and for the pur pose set forth.
