IMPROVEMENT 'IN WAGON-STANDARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 199,439, dated January 22,1878, application filed June 18, 1877.
with the section shown in Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to prevent the jarring and jolting of all kinds of wagons,
and, at the same time, make them simple in construction, strong, and durable, and of less expense in manufacture.
The invention consists in the combination of the standards, the coiled springs, and the curved braces with the bars or frame that support the wagon-body, and with the clips attached to the bolsters of the wagongearing, as hereinafter fully described.
A represents the head-block and the rear axle ofa wagon. B represents clips that pass around said axle and head-block, and are secured to them by yokes O and nuts b.
Upon the top of the clips B is formed a standard, D, which receives the ends of the bars or frame F, that support the wagonbody, and which are supported by coiled springs, F, placed upon the standards D, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Rubber blocks or washers may be placed upon the standards D, above and below the springs F.
G G designate curved braces, the upper ends of which have holes to receive the upper ends of the standards D, and the lower ends of said braces are curved and bent inward to form yokes O, which are secured to the wagon-axle.
The ends of the braces Gare secured in place upon the upper ends of the standards D by nuts 01, screwed upon the upper ends of said standards.
Having thus described our claim as new and desire to Patent- The combination of the standards D, coiled springs F, and curved braces Gr, having yokes G, with the bars or frame E, that support the wagon-body, and with the clips B, attached to the bolsters of the wagon-gearing, substantially as herein shown and described.
JONAS HOBBS.
