UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
AMBROSE L. DAVIS AND LEVI A. DAVIS, OF PORT CRANE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN VEHICLE- SPRINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,009, dated May 19, 1874; application filed March 21, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, AMBROSE L. DAVIS and LEVI A. DAVIS, of Port. Crane, in the county of Broome and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Wagon- Springs, of which the following is a specification-z This invention relates to the construction of the running-gears of wagons and other wheeled vehicles; and consists of springs beneath the fifth-wheel and king-bolt, and in the construc tion of the clip-block on the axle for fastening and supporting the ordinary springs, the construction and arrangement being as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a plan View, showing the top of the forward running-gear of a spring-wagon. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, showing a forward wheel.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
A is the forward axle. B B represent the ordinary spring confined to the axle, and connected with the tee O of the pole D, and with the rear spring E. E is a bolster on the rear spring E. F F are springs attached to the tee O of the pole, and to the bolster E. These springs F F we consider a novelty in springwagons, and they form the essential feature of our invention. These springs receive the blocks and bars G H, to which the fifth-wheel I is attached, upon which the wagon-body rests, being confined by the king-bolt, through the hole J. The springs F F act in connection with the other springs of the runninggear, and add materially to the elasticity of the wagon-body. K is the clip-block, by means of which the springs B B are confined to the axle. L is a clip, which passes around the axle and through the block K, and through the spring. This arrangement, we are aware, is not new; but the ends of the block extend from this clip in each direction, and each reoeives a clip, ,M, for giving additional support to the spring. This block, therefore, performs a new and important function in the construction of spring-Wagons.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The combination of the springs F with the axle A, tongue'bar (J, and rear spring E, all connected as and for the purpose shown and described.
2. The combination of blocks K and clips M with axle A and springs, as, shown and described.
