E. G. FRISBIE & 0. H. JOHNSON. Combined Bag-Holder and Truck.
No.199,051. Patented Jan. 8,1878
I fi m 9 ATTORNEYS,
NJETERS, PHOTO-LITNOGRAPNER, WASHINGTON 0 t UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDGAR G. FRISBIE AND CHARLES H. JOHNSON, OF MONROE, MICHIGAN.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINED BAG-HOLDER AND TRUCK.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 199,051, dated January 8, 1878; application filed October 12, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EDGAR G. FRIsBIE and CHARLES H. JOHNSON, of Monroe, in the county of Monroe and State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Combined Bag-Holder and Truck, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is afront view of our improved device, the outer band being raised, and part of the inner band being broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, taken through the line 00 m, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved device for holding a bag while being filled, and which may also be used as a truck for carrying the bag from place to place.
The invention consists in the combination of the hinged plates, the bolt and hand-nut, the ribs, the band, the standards, and the pivoted band with the slotted board and the frame-work.
A is a board, which is supported in an inclined position by the frame-work B O D. The forward ends of the base-bars B are attaohed to the board A near its lower corners, and their rear ends are attached to the lower parts of the upright bars 0 and the ends of the cross-bar D. The upper ends of the upright bars 0 are attached to the board A near its upper corners.
E are two plates, which are hinged to each other near the end parts of their upper edges. The upper middle part of the upper plate E is cut away, and to the middle part of the lower plate is attached a bolt, F, which passes through a slot, a in the upper part of the board A, and has a hand-nut, f, screwed upon it at the rear side of the board A, to clamp the device adjustably to said board, so that it may be moved up and down, as the length of the bag may require.
Upon the lower edge of the under side of the top plate E is formed, or to it is attached, a rib or flange, e, which rests against the lower plate E, or against the board A at the lower edge of said lower plate E.
To the end parts of the upper plate E are attached the ends of a curved band, G. To the band G, at the ends of the upper plate E, are attached the lower ends of two short standards, H, to the upper ends of which are pivoted the ends of the band I, which fits upon the band G, and the end parts of which are curved upward to meet the ends of the standards H. The board A is strengthened against splitting by the bars a attached to it at the upper and lower ends, and along the sides of its slot a To the lower parts of the upright bars 0 is pivoted a shaft, J, to the end parts of which are attached two small wheels, K, which, when the board A and frame B O D are tipped back, come in contact with the floor or ground, and adapt the machine to serve as a truck for carrying the bag from place to place.
In using the device the mouth of the bag L is passed over the upper plate E and the band G, and the band I is turned down upon it, so that the mouth of the bag will be held securely while being filled.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the hinged plates E, the bolt and hand-nut F f, the rib e, the band G, the standards H, and the pivoted band I with the slotted board A a and the frame B O D, substantially as herein shown and described.
