IMPROVEMENT IN SCHOOL-DESKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 198,922, dated January 1, 1878; application filed December 18, 1877.-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK T. JUNE, of Chicago, in the county of Cook, and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in School-Desks; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, ref erence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in connecting and securing together the slats or backs of school-desks and such furniture to their standards, as hereinafter more fully set of wood, and which compose the back of the seat. In the backs of these slats, and crosswise of them, are cut slots, which are in the form of a dovetail. The standards lie in these slots.
One edge of the standard is made beveled, as seen at 00, while the other edge is made square.

When the standard is placed in the slot in slats the strips are inserted by their sides. The beveled edge of the standard andthe beveled edge of the slat fit snuglyin the dovetailed sides of the slots, and when driven in tightly and glued the standard is firmly and securely fastened to the slats without the use of nails, or screws, or bolts, thus making a cheap, convenient, and quick mode of fastening the several parts together. h 7
Having thus fullydescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r The combination of a deskstandard, A, with the slats B B, said slats being provided with dovetailed-grooves, and the standard being secured in same by means of the strips a, the strips and standard being constructed substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
