Description

I Jan. 29, 1935. w. VON NESSEN LAMP Filed Mgmroh 21, 1934 Patented Jan. 29, 1935 8 Claims. (Cl. 2404.1) 4
Another object of this invention is to provide an improved lamp construction having a, lighttransmitting globe as a single integral member provided with integral 1ugs at its bottom and top for respectively connecting 120 a base and to means hingedly carrying a mirror.
With the above and. other objects in view, this invention includes ehe improved features, parts and. combinations of parts disclosed in the following description, appended claims am]. accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
In the accompanying drawing, in which one way of carrying out the invention is shown for illustrative purposes:
Fig. 1 is a central, vertical, sectional view illustrating a lamp embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the 1amp illustrated in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1, cf the upper portion thereof, with the mirror swung to open o1 mirror-using position;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the ring-member and shade;
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the light-transmitting globe; and
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the base.
Referring to the drawing, the lamp includes a base 10 having an electric lamp socket 11 attached thereto by means of the screw 12 and receiving electric current from a. suitable source of supply such as the electric cable 13. 'Ihe lamp socket 11 has a switch-operating member 14 and carries an e1eetric bulb 15.
'Ihe base-member 10 has an annular flange 16 provided with inwardly-extending 1ugs 17 adapted to engage or interlock with corresponding lugs 18 arranged around the flange 19 on the lower end of a light-transmitting globe 20 when the latter is rotated. in the locking direction.v 'Ihe light-transmitting globe 20 is preferably closed at its upper end by the portion 21 and has lugs 22 arranged. around its upper end and adapted to engage or interlock with corresponding lugs 23 arranged around the inside of a ring-member 24 A shade 29: maybe used, and*'if= s0;is-d0rine0tefl '=to or 'forri1'e'd intiag*rakwith th'e rin=membei 224- Ehe l'-iglit;einsmitting-globe 20 is br'etembly made as a single integral member formed with the top 21 and the lugs 22 and 18 integral therewith. The globe 20 may be formed of glass or other suitable light-transmitting material and, to avoid glare, may be made of what is known as translucent glass. Y
The invention may be carried out in other specific wa.ys than that herein sei: forh without departing from the spirit a.nd essential characteristics of the invention, and the present embodiment is therefore to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restricoive, and all changes coming within the meaning and equivalency range of the appended claims are intended be embraced therein.
I claim:
1. A make-up lamp including: a. base; a, lighttransmitting globe having its lower end. connected to said base; and a substantially-opaque combined top cover and mirror hingedly connectecl at the upper end of said light-transmitting globe and desig'ned and adapted selectively 110 permit of being swung 110 closed position to close off the passage of light from the upper end cf said globe and 110 open position to bring the mirror into usable position.
2. A portable make-up lamp including: a. base; a light-transmitting globe having its lower end connected to seid base; a supporting-member c0nnected 110 the upper end 0 f seid light-transmitting globe; and a substantially-opaque combined. top cover and mirror hingedly connected to said supporting-member anti designed and adapted selectively to permit of being swung to closed positi0n close ofi the passage of light from the upper end. of said globe and open position to bring the mirror into usable position.
3. A make-up lamp including: a base; a. lighttransmitting globe having its lower enc1 connected to said base, anal ha.Ving its upper end conneeted to a. ring-member surrounding said upper end; and a substantially-opaque combined top cover and mirror hingedlyc'onnected. to said ring-memher and' desigried and adapted. selectively 1:0 perrnit of being swung co prostrate position to close said ring-member and to open position to bring the mirror into usable position.
4. Aportable make-up lamp including; abase; a light'-t;ansmitting globe in the form of an inverted bott1e with a, closed, large upper end and having its lower end open and connected to said base; and a. substantially-opaque combined top cover and mirror hingedly connected at; the up- 5. A lamp including: a. base; a ligho-tran5mitting globe having its lower end connected to said base; and. a combined top cover and mirror hingedly c0nnected at the upper end of said light.- transmitting globe; said globe being a single intiegral member formed with integral 1ugs ab its -upper and. lower ends for respectively connecting the g1obe cooperating parts on said combined top cover and mirror and said base.
6. A 1amp including: a base; alight-transmitting globe having its lower end connected said base, and having its upper end closed and connected to a. ring-member surrounding said upper end; and a combined top cover and mirror hingedly 001111801386. to said ring-member and adapted selectively to be swung to prostrate position to close said ring-member and to open position to bring the mirror into usable position.
'7. A lamp inqluding: abase; a. light-transmitting globe having its lower end connected to said base, and having its upper end closed and cougral lugs at its upper and lower ends for respectiVel3r co'nhecting the globe to cooperating parts on said combined top cover anal mirror a.nd said base.
8. A 1amp including: a, base; a light-transmitting globe ha ving its lower end connected to sa.id base, andv having its upper end connected to a ring-member surrounding said upper end; and a combined top cover and mirror hingedly connected to said ring-member and adapted selectively tobe swung to prostrate position to close said ring-member and 1:0 open position so bring the mirror into usable position; and a shade surrounding and connected to said ring-member.
