GAME PLAYING BOARD Filed March 8. 1934 v 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 [9 .4% //I (9 I --g a y W.@ 1+--@-@@@@@@@@@@ I 6 6 Patented Jan. 22, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
The invention relates to a game board and particularly to a game board adapted for playing a marble puzzle game, and has for its object the provision of an improved construction of game board of the character stated whereby ash receptacles for the use of players are conveniently arranged on the board, and the edge of the board has an upstanding flange contiguous to the ash trays and having recesses therein adjacent to the trays for holding cigars and cigarettes, the flange also providing means whereby the game piece will be held from rolling or otherwise leaving the board.
The invention will be described in detail hereinafter and will found illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of one form of board involving the invention,
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view,
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view on a plane indicated by the line 33 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a top plan view of a modified construction of the board,
Figure 5 is a bottom plan view of the modified form shown in Figure 4, and
Figure 6 is a transverse sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 6-6 of Figure 4.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the board disclosed in Figures 1, 2, and 3 is circular in plan, and has its top surface A substantially flat and provided with a plurality of depressions designated from 1 to 57, inclusive, that are arranged in the form of a Maltese cross, said depressions being adapted to retain marbles or other spherical game pieces that are to be played onto or off of the board in accordance with selected rules of playing the game, one example of which is included hereinafter.
It will be apparent for the purpose of the application that any other arrangement of game layouts may be used to the exclusion of the de- 45 pressions 1 to 5'7, or said depressions may be arranged in any other form than the Maltese cross as shown, the invention consisting in providing in combination with the game board, other depressions B that are relatively larger than the first mentioned depressions and are adapted to be used as ash receptacles for cigar or cigarette ashes, and are a convenience for the player or players of the game depicted on the board. It is also intended that the depressions B be used to store the marbles or game pieces in, as they are taken from the board, and therefore, it is (necessary for the depressions B to be relatively eep.
Circumferentially arranged on the board A and extending upright therefrom is a flange C 5 that is of sufficient height to hold the marbles or spherical game pieces or other game pieces from rolling off or otherwise leaving the board, and said flange is provided with recesses D in the upper surface of the flange and arranged adja- 1 cent to the depressions B, said recesses D being adapted to receive and hold a cigar or cigarette.
The underside of the game board is provided with a plurality of downwardly projecting extensions or legs E that form supporting members for the board. These extensions are positioned directly beneath the depressions B and provide sufficient material so that the bottom of the depressions can extend below the bottom of the board as shown in Figure 3. 20
As shown in the modified form of Figures 4, 5, and 6, the board'is in the form of a square and designated F, and has a plurality of recesses or depressions indicated as shown in Figure 1 for the same purpose as that heretofore described in relation to the said depressions and recesses or depressions B to provide ash trays. On the four sides of the board F are provided upright flanges H having recesses or depressions I therein arranged contiguous to the ash receptacles G for the same purpose as the recesses or depressions D, and the under side of the board is provided with corner enlargements J extending downwardly for the same purpose as the enlargements E described in relation to Figures 1 to 3.
In playing the game on either of the boards shown in the drawings, place marbles on each of the numbers of the chart except number 57 in the middle of the chart. Do not place marbles on that number only as you jump them from other numbers ,to that number. The rules of this puzzle are to only jump over one marble or number at a time, straight forwardor straight backward or straight to the right or straight to the left, taking awayeach marble as it is jumped, until all the marbles are gone except a marble on number 57. When the puzzle is worked only the marble on number 57 should remain, jumping according to rules.
Starting at number 1 jump to number 57 taking away marble 2, and jump marble number 3 to number 2 taking away marble number 4, and jump marble number 5 to number 4 taking away marble number 2, and jump marble number 6 to number 5 taking away marble number 7, and jump marble number 8 to number 6 taking away marble number 9, and jump marble number 10 to number 7 taking away marble number 6, and jump marble number 11 to number 10 taking away marble number 12, and jump marble number 13 to number 6, taking away marble number 10, and jump marble number 14 to number 13 taking away marble number 15, and jump marble number 7 to number 10 taking away marble number 6, and jump marble number 13 to number 6 taking away marble number 10, and jump marble number 16 to number 7 taking away marble number 5, and jump marble number 6 to number 5 taking away marble number 7, and jump marble number 17 to number 16 taking away marble number 18, and jump marble number 19 to number 18 taking away marble number 20, and jump marble number 21 to number 19 taking away marble number 22, and jump marble number 23 to number 20 taking away marble number 19, and jump marble number 24 to number 23 taking away marble number 25, and jump marble number 26 to number 19 taking away marble number 23, and jump marble number 27 to number 26 taking away marble number 28, and jump marble number 20 to number 23 taking away marble number 19, and jump marble number 26 to number 19 taking away marble number 23, and jump marble number 29 to number 20 taking away marble number 18, and jump marble number 19 to number 18 taking away marble number 20, and jump marble number 30 to number 29 taking away marble number 31, and jump marble number 32 to number 31 taking away marble number 33, and jump marble number 34 to number 32 taking away marble number 35, and jump marble number 36 to number 33 taking away marble number 32, and jump marble number 37 to number 36 taking away marble number 38, and jump marble number 39 to number 32 taking away marble number 36, and jump marble number 40 to number 39 taking away marble number 41, and jump marble number 33 to number 36 taking away marble number 32, and jump marble number 39 to number 32 taking away marble number 36, and jump marble number 42 to number 33, taking away marble number 31, and jump marble number 32 to number 31 taking away marble number 33, and jump marble number 43 to number 2 taking way marble number 5, and jump marble 2 to number 3 taking away marble number 4, and jump marble number 44 to number 4 taking away marble number 3, and jump marble number 45 to number 44 taking away marble number 46, and jump marble number 47 to number 3 taking away marble number 44, and jump marble number 48 to number 47 taking away marble number 49, and jump marble number 50 to number 44 taking away marble number 47, and jump marble number 51 to number 50, taking away marble number 52, and jump marble number 3 to number 47 taking away marble number 44, and jump marble number 50 to number 44, taking away marble number 47, and jump marble number 29 to number 2, taking away marble number 57, and jump marble number 2 to number 3 taking away marble number 4, and jump marble number 44 to number 4, taking away marble number 3, and jump marble number 53 to number 42 taking away marble number 4 and jump marble number 54 to number 57 taking away marble number 16, and jump marble number 42 to number 33, taking away marble number 31, and jump marble number 33 to number 17 taking away marble number 55, and jump marble number 1'7 to number 16, taking away marble number 18, and jump marble number 16 to number 42 taking away marble number 57, and jump marble number 56 to number 57 taking away marble number 42.
There are other solutions of the puzzle, making it more interesting and instructive and the puzzle and rules governing the playing of the same are protected by copyright obtained in 1933.
