1 Claim. (Cl. 4-173) The present invention relates to a recess bathtub anchor and has for its prime object to provide means for facilitating the installation of recess bathtubs in a convenient and reliable manner with a great saving of labor and accuracy of workmanship.
Another very important object of the invention resides in the provision of a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, inexpensive to manufacture, strong and durable, thoroughly efiicient and reliable in use, and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in view as will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section through a bathtub showing one of my devices in side elevation mounted on studding.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the studding showing one of my devices thereon.
Figure 3 is an edge elevation.
Figure 4 is an enlarged detail side elevation of my device.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the numeral 5 denotes an oblong plate with groups of openings 6 formed therein. Numeral 7 denotes a lateral extension formed on one longitudinal edge adjacent the lower end of the plate and disposed coplanar with the plate. This extension '1 has a lateral right angle flange 8 formed on the upper edge thereof. Two pairs of ears 9 are formed integrally on said one edge of the plate, one pair adjacent the upper end thereof and the other pair adjacent the extension '7, the ears of each pair extending in opposite directions at right angle to the plate.
In actual practice a pair of plates 5 are permanently secured by nailing on the studding 10 with the ears 9 functioning as stops abutting the outer edges of the studding. The extensions '7 with their flanges 8 are adapted to receive the inner flange 11 of the well known type of built in or recessed bathtub 12 for supporting the same in a manner to avoid an unsightly gap and to prevent leaks between the bathtub flange and the 6 tile which results, in most instances, from shrinkage in the timbers after the building has been constructed for a year or more.
It is thought that the construction, utility and advantages of this invention will be now clearly 10 understood by those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purpose of exemplification since in actual l5 practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, and in the combination and ar- 20 rangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I 25 claim as new is:
An anchor for the wall side of a bathtub comprising an elongated plate having a plurality of holes therein for receiving fastening means for fastening the plate to a wall studding, upper and 30 lower pairs of ears formed on the outer side edge of the plate, said ears extending at right angles to the plate, with the ears of each pair extending in opposite directions, an ear of each pair being adapted to engage the outer edge of the studding, 36 an extension on the outer side edge of the plate at the lower end thereof which extends beyond the studding, and a horizontal flange on the upper end of said extension forming a seat for a part of the flange of the tub, said horizontal 4,0 flange being spaced a suflicient distance below the lowermost ear to permit a part of the tub flange to pass between the horizontal flange and said ear.
