This invention relatesto an improvement in forms of the collapsible, type. t
The principal object of thi's invention is to construct a form which may be used in various places and which may be readily. assembledfand disassembled without the usual difliculties now encountered.
Another object of this invention is to produce a form which may be used in concrete construction and the like, and one which is adjustable at, various distances without the necessity of'sawing and fitting, which is now necessary. g
Another object of this invention is to produce a form which may be readily assembled and quickly removed andagain utilized in the formation of, other concrete structures;
A still further object of the invention is to producea form, which is s'imple and reliable 1n operation, cheap to construct, strong and durable and'capable 'ofbeing handledby the most inexperienced labor.

This plate 24 is of sufficient width to cover any opening which maybe provided between the vertical sur faces of'form-boards 16 and21- and will also serve to prevent the passage from one side of the" form to the other of concrete before it has becomesolidified. 1 Referring to Fig. 1 it will-be notedthat I'have constructed a grooved member*27of two parallel pieceshaving' spacer28 there"- between. This grooved member 27 is' adapted to be placed} upon the tops of the fo1imboards :21 so as to holdthe same in proper alinement. The actionof my form-boards is as follows: I
Assuming it'isdesired to build a form 5 feet 3 inches long, and the form-boards are 6'inches in width,it wouldtake ten and a fraction boards under ordinary conditions. By usingmy form boards and two formboards having an expansion joint therebetween I am able to accommodate for the odd size of 5 feet and 3 inches. The same is true under all conditions; it merely being'necessary to insert one or more expansive joints to care for various conditions.
In operation the form-boards are setup as shown in Fig. 2 and the expansion of springs 19, 20 and 21 causes the beveled edges of the various forms to be brought" into intimate contact one with the other for the purpose of forming a tight joint, and which springs also function asa contracting means therefore, details of which function will be hereinafter described. i
When the form is assembled, cement may be poured against the form boards and easily separated from the form proper. The
extraction ofone of the form-boards will thus allow the remaining boards to come away from the cement without difliculty or mutilation. The sill 5' and strip 6 maybe left in the air space which exists' between the respectivewalls constructed by means of my improved form. V v
It will be noted that this form maybe employed where the usualform is cumbersome, expensivetotransport and in many instances unobtainable; and it will befurther evidentthat there is here provided a form which maybe placedupon the market and sold at a very-reasonable price. 1
Thus it will be-seen that by employing the combination of the beveledboards inconjunctionwithsprings and a metal plate, I have provided not only a novel-,form,--but also one which owing. to the contraction and expansion of thie spring elements allows firstly the construction-of a compact form, and secondly the easy extraction of vthe boards so that they may be used when desired when setting up for another form.
Attention is called to the fact thatI' have herewith shown only one form, but it is t( be understood that this form is tobe used in conjunction with another form of similar configuration, which two forms serve to construct an inner wall. By the em'ployment of these forms I have overcome the objec tions experienced by builders in the use of hollow concrete blocks, for the blocks in use today have been anything but satisfactory owing to the expense entailed in-laying out the-same, and the additional fact that water will pass through the concrete blocks and accordingly' dampen the inner walls when the blocks are. joined together, unless a moisture-proof plastic is utilized. 7 It will be apner wall is constructed, the additional ex- -pense incurred by the necessity of a moisture-proof plastic is avoided, and yet the innerwall can be preserved in an absolutely dry state. It will furthermore be apparent that by the provision of an air space'between the walls, there will be afforded by the application of 'my improved form a building construction which is ,cooler in summerand warmer winter. g Y
