Description

W. S. FRINK Jan.' 8, 1935.
CLIP BROOCH Filed Sept. 9, 1933 mvENToR W/LL/AM S. F/P/NK of ATTORNEY groove 22 is formed in the faces of these side and application september 9,1933, s'ofiailNo.'cf5iz,7`1sI zolaims. (C1. 63-20) This invention relates to bronches and has for an object to provide a device o f this character with a main ornamental body and a number of ornaments adapted Uto interchangeably slide into a frame formed in the main body.
Another object is to providemeansfor automatically securing the ornaments in position when slid into the frame. VAnother Aobject is to` furnish the main ornamental body with a hinged ilap carrying garment engaging elements, so that the device may ber worn as a clip brooch.
Inthe drawing accompanying this specificationI 4have shown by' Way of illustration a practicable embodiment of my invention, inwhich drawing: v i Y Figure 1 is a, face'y view of the complete brooch.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section of brooch shown in Figure 1.
' Figure 3 is an underside View` of the body portion only of the brooch, the hinged iiap being shown in its open position. l
Figure4 is a central longitudinal section of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is an` under `side view of an interchangeable slide.
Figure 6 is aside view of` such slide, and Figure 7 is a, cross-section taken on a plane at aboutthe line 7--7` of Figure`3.
fThe main body 10,`of the brooch is intended to be decorated or ornamented inharmony with prevailing ornamentation, being conventionally represented, for instance, at l1 and at 12.
There is shown hinged tothe rear of this ornamental main body member 10 a flap 13, furnished with garment engaging elements illustrated in the form of sharp pins 14. The hinge illustrated is composed of `a pair of square bosses15 carriedV by body, and three bosses `164-16 and 17 carried by the flap, the boss 17 being shown disposed between'the boss 15, and the bosses 16 disposed` outwardly thereof. 'Ihere are shown set off from the flap 13 a pair of spring fingers 18 for en-` gaging the squared faces of the bosses15 for bers 19, and a member 20 at the inner end, the
other or outer end beingv shown open at 21. A
end members, forming ways for interchangeably receiving slides, one` of which is illustrated dismountedin Figures 5 and 6, and in position in Figures 1 and 2. `'I'he slide illustrated in the `dra-wing is in thel form of a setting, having a rim 24 in which is to be mounted some ornabrooch may readily change its color or `ornamental eiiect to suit almost any occasion or garment color scheme.
The slide carries at each side a ange 26 `for running in the longitudinal partsof the groove 22. These iianges merge at vthe inner end of, the slide in a yat plate 27, the edge 28 of `which plate is intended to seat in the portion of the groove 22 which is formed in the frame end 20.
`The two side members 19 of the frame are shown connected by a flat cross-bar 29, having .a depression 30 in its central part. This bar -is preferably located toward the inner portion of the open frame. The plate 27 is shown slotted inw at 31 for setting oi a spring 32, having a straight i front edge 33, from the front `center of which projects a finger piece 34. When the slide is in position and fully entered in the frame, with the edges 26 and 28 in the groove 22, the spring 32 drops do-wn behind thecross-bar 29, or inwardly of it, securely fastening the slide to the main body member. The finger piece 34 partly is in the depression 30, its front or other end, however, overcharges the bar and is in position for ready engagement outwardly of the cross bar by the iinger for releasing the spring.V It will be obvious from an inspection of the drawing in connectionwith the foregoing description that in removing and in replacingthe interchangeable slide, the slide can be held between thethumb and finger outwardly of parts disposed crosswise of its path of movement.
- Although I have shown but one embodiment `of my` invention as an illustrative example Aof `my invention, it is to be understood that changes may be made within the scope of my claims without departing from `the spirit of my invention'.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
sides and a closed end, the other end being open there being grooves formed in the faces of the sides and closed end, a cross bar extending from` `5o l. In a brooch, the combination with a body member formed as an oblong frame having twov tral depression, and a flap furnished with grippingdevices and hinged to the bodyI member and constituting therewith a garment clip, of an orna-A mental slide adapted to enter the frame from the open end and tofo'ccupy the said grooves, and
a catch for holding the slide member within the v frame, and comprising a,y forwardly directed nger engaging protrusion, the organization be ingsuch that when the slide is moved uponfthe grooves and is fully entered into the frame, the inner end ofthe slide is under the ornamental portion of the body member, the ringerengag-` ing protrusion roccupies the central depression in the cross bar, and the forwardfend-f-the spring is at the inner side of the cross bar.
side to side of* the frame, and formed with a een? 2. In a brooch the. combination with a body member formed as an oblong frame having two sides and a closed end, the other end being open, there being grooves formed in the inner faces ofthe sides, a cross bar extending from side to side of the frame, of an ornamental slide adapted to enter the frame from the open end and to oceupy the said grooves, a `catch member on said ornamental slide having a portion for engaging thefsaidmrossffbar yto loekthe -slide Within said 10 frame, and/'means'.at the#outergsidefdfsaid cross yin replacing the slide, the slide can be held be- Ytween the thumb and nger outwardly of the said 15 cross bar.
