PLASTIC` MATERIAL DISPENSER Filed Sept. 26, 1953 ORNEY Patented Jan. l', 1935 frimsfric` MATERIAL DISPENSER Franz .Schneiden Philadelphia. Raz.,

' My invention relates Agenerally to, dispensers, andmore particularly Ato a dispenser` 'which'V is adantableto the dispensingof plasticzmaterials. f In. a. device cik this. generalcharacter, 4 itis desirable to. provideA `a structurewhich convenf iently portable, readily-.applicable .to carriers,v crevices and other, diiiiculty accessible nplacesland is.. furthermore, flexibly` adapted toA the fdspens.-v g Aof ,materials of varying consistencyv and` .viscbsty'. l y lfobject` of4 my. invention; generally expressed, islto provide a device for dispensingA plastic .mate` vide agdeyicev for dispensing plastic materials to places `ordinarily inaccessible ,to the. conventional dispensingdevices because of, their` rigidity. of desgnandconstruction; The inconvenience.jof` .th.l,l..sf applying plastic material. to suchv place'sgisv overcome Vby aieature of l my invention in 'which the stock and the trigger of'the devicecanbero-L tatedaboutits plunger and.cylinder.
Aiurther objectfof myfinvention is to provide adis'plenser in which the stroke of4 the plunger canM be; variedthrough a 4Wide range,.thereby not only contrqlling Within widelimits the quantity of' maidlialejectedfbut also the` pressure :to bejapplie Ato the substance tobe ejected;

The trigger 15 is a bent lever in which o ne or more holes 16 and 17 can be'drilled for the 45 purpose of varying the ratio of the lever arms and of permitting greater or lesser mechanical advantage. depending upon the viscosity of the plastic material to be ejected. 5o
To the rear surface of the stock 12 is attached the short movable link 18 which 'is rotatably hinged to the lever 19. A compressionspring 20 holds the lever 19 rmly against the piston rod 4 and prevents any retrogressive movement of the piston rod 4.- vBy means of thecatch 21, however, the lever `19 can be securely locked to the stock 12y against the action of the spring 20 cent vto the stock 12, is threadedly or otherwise engaged the bell-shaped cap 23 whichv serves as a handle 'or a rest when the dispenser is actual use.
The manner in which my device can be utilized becomes obvious when the operation is more fully described. In order to charge the dispenser with plastic material the nozzle "I, 8 or 9 and the cap 6 are readily detachedand the` cylinder 1 is pressed into the gasket 24 of resilient material surrounding the upturned perforation punched into the shallow plate 26. The plate 26 rests -upon the rplastic material in a container (not shown). The lever 19 is locked to the stock` Y 12 by the catch 21, the piston rod-4 is withdrawn tothe Yendof its stroke and, by suction, the plastic material Vflows into the cylinder l. With the lever 19 thus securelylocked to the stocky12 the piston 'rod `4 can be movedffreely in both directions in the cylinder 1i -Wlien the piston rod 4-is pulled out `of 4the cylinder 1,the dispenser can be charged; when the piston rod 4 is pushed into the cylinder l-under Athe conditions' previously describedthe dispenser can be` utilized as an ordinary squirt gun. In this precedure the dispenser can be quickly and cleanly charged.
' The Vcap 6 andthe desired nozzle are then replacedfthe lever 19l is'unlocked and the dispenser is then; in condition for" the application of the plastic `material."i`- With jthe trigger set for a desired mechanicalV advantage, applied force-rotates it about vits f ulcrurn Vl'l and brings its short arm intocontact withthe plater y13. The sharp, hard edge ofthe plate 13 bites into" the piston rod 4 and forcefully propels it for-` l withA it the piston 2 and the plasticv material to be' ejectedA through thev nozzle '7, 8L
ward `carrying or 9. With continuedV use vthe `piston rodV 4 be` comes ridged and roughened and )accordingly can be more securely seized by the plate 13.' After the plate 13 has bitten intov the piston rod 4 to propel it forward the plate 13 holds the rod 4 securely in a fixed-position and-prevents any retrogressive 'movement or recoil rof vthe rod 4.
It is to be further observed that'with'the lever 19 locked to the stock 12 .by Imeans of the catch 21 the pistonI 4 canvmove inv both directions -in the cylinder 1 and' thereby make of my device an ordinary squirtgun. i
Whilethe construction as shown and described is the preferred embodiment offmyfdevice, nevertheless the same may be modiiied detail without departing fromythe spiritand the scope of the invention as` deilned .inr the annexed claims.
and rotatably attached at cylinder; av piston therein;
