H., a corporation of New Hampshire Original application August 29, 1931, Serial No. 560,222. Divided and this application May 11, 1933, Serial No. 670,544
Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in tapes of checks of the type comprising a series of initially joined checks which are severed along substantially transverse lines of the tape igifor individual employment of the checks.
The present application is a division of my copending application Serial No. 560,222, filed August 29, 1931, describing a mechanism employing such a tape of checks for the automatic de- "milivery of the individual checks.
One of the features of the present invention is the provision of a tape of checks in which the strip forming the tape has weakened portions at intervals along its length corresponding Ito the junctions of two adjacent checks, at which the checks may be severed from one another.
Another feature of the present invention is the provision at such points of pluralities of apertures in longitudinally spaced relationship ggfrom one another whereby to facilitate the mechanical severing of the tapes from one another, for example in the manner described in my aforesaid application.
An illustrative form of tape according to this ggiinvention is shown on the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a view showing a portion of the tape and illustrating three complete checks and portions of two other checks.
Figure 2 shows two checks in their severed condition.
Figure 3 shows the manner of cooperation of a mechanism such as that described in my aforesaid co-pending application with the tape 3 Ifor producing a mechanical severing of the checks. This figure corresponds to Figure 7 of the aforesaid application.
In the drawing, Figure 1 shows three complete checks A, B and C, which may have any 11 desired indicia on the faces thereof. Such checks are employed in many ways, in cafeterias, ticket ofices, etc.
At the junction of the ends of two adjacent checks are provided in this illustrative form the lateral notches 69 and a central aperture '72 in alinement therewith. Between the aperture and notches are left the connecting webs '70 providing lateral margins to the aperture. Opposite the ends of these webs are the apertures '71 which are in transverse alinement with one another and are longitudinally spaced from the line of aperture '72 and notches 69, and extend for a transverse distance substantially corresponding to the width of the webs '70, and thus spaced longitudinally and also staggered or so i spaced transversely with relation to the aperture 72 and notches 69. Thus transverse connecting portions join the individual checks at the points marked by dotted lines '75 in Figure 1, these portions being later severed along lines which extend substantially longitudinally of the tape.
In the employment of such a tape, with the machine of my aforesaid application, for example, the tape is moved in the direction of the arrow in Figure 3. A tearing arm 51 is caused to move at a greater speed than the check B, while the check A is retarded in its movement so that a kink is formed at the junction of the two checks in the manner shown in Figure 3. The tearing arm 51 enters the aperture '72 and presses upward on the rear end of check A so that this check then presents its slots '71 to the tearing fingers 35. As the check A continues in its forward movement the fingers 35a cause a 75. tearing of the tape and thus a severing of the checks. This tearing occurs along the dotted lines '75 of Figure 1, to produce the torn edges '75 in Figure 2.
It is obvious that the invention is not limited solely to the particular form of execution shown, but that it may be modified within many ways of the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:--
1. A tape of checks comprising a strip having notches and apertures therein in transverse alinement and separated by connecting webs, and further apertures in alinement transversely of the strip and alined lengthwise of the strip with said webs.
2. A tape of checks comprising a strip having lateral notches between the ends of adjacent checks, at least one web integrally joining each two adjacent checks, and an aperture in the strip in longitudinal alinement with and extending for substantially the transverse distance of said web.
3. A tape of checks comprising a strip having 1-00 lateral notches between the ends of adjacent checks, the strip also having integral junction webs located transversely between said notches, and apertures longitudinally offset from and alined with said webs. 0
4. A tape of checks comprising a strip having at the junction of two adjacent checks at least one aperture and longitudinal webs providing lateral margins for said aperture, said strip also being transversely weakened at places in longi tudinal aI inement with said webs and offset 1ongitudinally from said aperture.
5. A tape of checks comprising a strip having at the junction of two adjacent checks a transversely extending connecting portion, said tape' being weakened adjacent said connecting portion at staggered places on one and another
