  • the gear ratio of the pinions 19 to the central toothed wheel 20 is 1:2, and consequently, for each revolution of the driving shaft 1, the spindles 5 rotate through two revolutions, and therefore, per revolution of said driving shaft, the yarn from each bobbin of the composite unit receives four revolutions of twist from the time it leaves the bobbin to the time it reaches the doubling eye 33 and in the result each yarn receives six revolutions of twist per revolution of the driving shaft between the bobbin and the take-off element 36, four of these revolutions of twist being applied prior to doubling and two after.

  • the parts set forth in claim 1 in an overhung form in which the bobbins, the fliers and the yarn guide of the loop type sub-units are all supported from one end only of the sub-unit, and the assemblage of sub-units, the primary flier and the primary yam guide are also all supported from one end only of the composite unit, the fliers of the sub-units are rotationally mounted upon the outer end of a weighted U-shaped bracket accommodating the bobbin within its bend and freely mounted at the other end upon a spindle which is rotational in bearings in the stationary carrier, the said carrier is mounted through the intermediary of anti-friction bearings upon an overhung driving shaft and is weighted to hang stationary thereon and said shaft is drivingly connected to the spindle of the sub-units through the intermediary of a toothed wheel fast on the extremity of the shaft and in mesh with pinions on the spindles.
