This invention relates to shoulder strap holders, particularly intended to support lingerie straps and prevent them from sliding over the shoulders of the wearer. y
The principal object of the invention is to provide such a holder which can readily be applied, adjusted and removed, and which is unobtrusive and can be secured to an outer garment without apparent distortion.
The invention will readily be understood from the following description of a preferred embodiment taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a View of a lady wearing the improved invention, the outer garment being broken away to show the location of the holder;
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the holder;
Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view thereof;
Fig. 4 is a plan view similar to Fig. 2, the underside of the holder tape being distended; and
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the holder showing the manner in which the same is secured to the outer garment.
Referring to the drawing, the improved garment holder comprises a tape 10 which is adapted to be folded upon itself in the manner shown in Figs. 2 and 5, so as to provide a loop 11 in which the shoulder strap'or straps 12 are received.
The extremities of the tape 10 are turned inwardly and are secured in this relation by mounting thereon the male element 13 and female element 14 of a snap fastener. Within the loop 15 formed by the snap fastener element 14 is located the straight central portion 16 of a spring clip 17. The spring clip 17 is preferably formed of a piece of steel wire, the lengths whereof on either side of the central length 16 are bent inwardly or waisted as indicated at 18.
i The waist 18 causes the length 16 to remain in fixed position within the loop 15. The lengths of the wire forming the clip then bow outwardly as indicated at 19. Then they turn inwardly l and cross at a position indicated at 20. The ends of the wire of which the clip 17 is formed bow outwardly as indicated at 21 and their extremities normally overlap each other as indicated at 22. It will readily be seen that by applying pressure upon the outwardly bowed portions 19 the extremities 22 are moved past each other so as to provide an opening therebetween for the reception of fabric, as will hereinafter be explained. When the bowed portions 19 are released the ends 22 approach and pass each other -so that the fabric is firmly held therebetween the ends 22 being normally in contact with each other. As best shown in Fig. 4, the one length of the wire passes over the other length at 20 and the extremity of the first said length is located on the opposite side of the extremity of the second said length. It will thus be seen that the crossing of the lengths of wire at the point 20 has the effect of pressing the extremities 22 together and maintaining the clip 17 in a high state of clipping efncency for prolonged periods.
With reference to Figs. 3 and 5, it will readily be seen that the loop 23 formed by the male element 13 of the snap fastener is substantially longer than the loop 15, so that the loop 23 extends almost to the outer or free extremity of the clip 17. As a result the clip 17 is held out of contact with the wearers shoulder so that the wearers skin is protected from discoloration by rust from the steel stock from which the clip 17 is preferably made.
In using the holder, the same is opened into the position shown in Fig. 4. The lingerie shoulder straps 12 passing over one shoulder are located on the tape 10, between the snap fastener elements 13 and 14. The tape 10 is then folded so as to bring the snap fastener element 14 over the element 13, these elements being then snapped together. The tape 10 is initially appliedso as to bring the clip 17 inwardly directed and on the upper side of the folded holder, as best seen in Fig. 1. The wearer then inserts her hand and compresses the bowed portions 19 together separating the normally overlapping extremities 22 and forming a gap therebetween. Into this gap is passed one or both of the inwardly turned edges of fabric 24 of the seam 25 which extends along the shoulder of most garments. The clip 17 is adjusted into the appropriate position for the correct location of the straps 12 and the clip is then released. In order to remove the outer garment it is merely necessary to press the bowed portions 19 together again and remove the edge or edges 24 from the resulting gap between the extremities 22.
Having thus described my invention, I declare that what I claim is:
1. A shoulder strap holder comprising a strip adapted to be folded around a lingerie strap, securing means on said strip for enclosing said strap therewithin, and a spring clip at one end of the strip adapted to be readily anchored to the edge of the fabric of an outer garment adjacent the shoulder seam, said clip having bowed portions, lengths which cross, return bends and overlapping extremities, whereby the clip can be roo opened by manual pressure applied to said bowed portions.
2. A shoulder strap holder comprising a strip, the ends of which are folded inwardly, male and female elements of a snap fastener mounted on said strip adjacent its ends securing the inturned portions adjacent the main length of the strip, and a clip of springy wire having a length in one of the loops thus formed in the end of the strip, converging lengths forming a waist, outwardly directed bowed portions, lengths which cross, return bends and overlapping extremities, whereby said clip can be opened by manual pressure applied to said bowed portions.
3. A shoulder strap holder comprising a, strip adapted to be folded around a lingerie strap, cooperating snap fastener elements'mounted, in
spaced relation, on said strip whereby the portion of said strip between the elements may be formed into a closed loop enclosing said lingerie strap, said strip comprising, in addition to said portion between the snap fastener elements, end portions extending beyond said snap fastener elements, one of said end portions of the strip being substantially longer than the other, and
a spring clip mounted on the shorter end porv tact with the wearers shoulder.
