Description

N GAINES SHOWER BATH CURTAIN AND BRACKET Filed Nov. 14. 1933 Nov. 13, 1934.
Patented Nov. 13, 1934 UNITED STATES PATE NT' OFFICE v 5 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in shower bath curtains and brackets.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a valance strip arranged near the upper portion of the usual shower bath curtain to obstruct the vision of the unsightly supporting hooks and rod of the shower curtain.
A further object of the invention is to provide a valance strip of the above mentioned character capable of being Secured to a shower bath curtain supporting rod withoutrequiring alteration thereof or of the conventional shower bath curtain.
A further object of this invention is to provide brackets adapted to be clamped upon the usual shower bath curtain rod having arms provided with inwardly turned lugs to engage within the open ends of a pressed metal rod.
A further object of this invention is to provide a bracket for supporting a valance strip adapted to accommodate two rods so that the valance strip may be fastened or supported along its longitudinal edges to prevent the same from becoming disarranged when the shower bath curtain is being moved backwardly and forwardly such as when the curtain is being moved for the entrance of the bather to and from the shower bath.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a bracket for supporting a valance strip along the upper edge of a shower bath curtain which will not interfere with the curtain supporting rings nor their movement upon the shower curtain rod.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent during the course of the following description forming a part of this specification and taken with the drawing, wherein,
Figure l is a front elevational View of the invention showing the same applied to the upper portion of a shower bath curtain;
Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the supporting brackets as applied to the shower bath curtain rod;
Figure 3 is a top elevational View of the valance strip supporting brackets illustrating the clamp for holding the same in place;
Figure 4 is a rear elevational view of the curtain valance strip supporting brackets, showing the manner in which the curtain rod holding lugs are bent outwardly before being bent inwardly;
Figure 5 is a vertical cross-sectional View greatly enlarged, taken on line 5--5 of Figure 1, looking in the direction of the arrcws, illustrating in detail one of the valance strip supporting brackets and showing the manner in which the same is attached in a removable manner to the shower bath curtain supporting rod; and
Figure 6 is a vertical cross-sectional View greatly enlarged and partly broken away illustrating a modified form of the invention showing the use of one rod for supporting the valance strip.
In the drawing, the reference character 5 designates a shower bath curtain rod adapted to be received in tubular sockets 6 having wall engaging flanges 7. Mounted upon the curtain rod 5 in the usual manner is a series of hooks 8 having loops 9 which encircle the rod 5 for sliding movement thereon. A shower bath curtain 10 is provided with eyelets in the upper edge thereof, not
shown, adapted to be received on the hooks 8 for suitably supporting the shower bath curtain 10.
The above structure is conventional with shower bath curtains and the invention comprises a pair of brackets 11 Secured to opposite ends of the shower curtain rod 5 and each of the brackets comprises an arcuately curved portion 12 having bosses 13 for the passage of machine screws 14 adapted to threadedly engage within screw threaded openings formed in similar bosses 15 formed on an arcuately curved clamping member 16. The clamping members 12 and 16 are semicircular and the inner contour is so shaped as to conform to the circular size of the shower curtain rod 5.
Formed on the semi-circular clamping member 12 is an upwardly extending arm 17 having a curved portion 18 and an extension 19 which curves outwardly as at 20 and has its free end return bent as at 21.
The semi-circular bracket member 12 is also i provided with a curved downwardly extending arm 22 having an angular portion 23 and a curved portion 24 ofiset from the angular portion 23 and the return bent end 25 is formed identical with the Construction of the rod holding return bent arms 21.
Extending between the free ends 21 and 25 of the brackets is a pair of rods 26 which may be formed of sheet metal and which may be rectangular in cross-section so that the free open ends may receive the respective free ends 21 and 25 of the bracket members.
A valance strip 27 is provided along its marginal edges with hems 28 adapted to receive the curtain rods 26. In this manner the longitudinal edges of the valance strip 27 are anchored and prevented from disarrangement.
In Figure 6 is shown a modified form of the invention wherein semi-circular clamping membars .120 and 16a are adapted to embrace the shower curtain rod 5a and the semi-circular clamping members 12a and 16a are provided with ears or lugs 13a and 150. respectively through which may be passed a machine screw l4a for clamping the two parts together.
Formed integral with the semi-circular clamping member 120. is an upwardly curved arm 17a having an angular portion 19& continuing in an outwardly curved portion 20a and terminating in a return bent portion 21a.
It will be noted that only one bracket arm is employed. for supporting the curtain rod 26a which extends through the hem 280, of the curtain valance strip 27a. The structure illustrated in Figure 6 may be employed for both shower bath curtains and window curtains by merely attaching the clamping brackets 120, and 1611 to the shower bath curtain rod or window curtain rod.
It is to be understood that the form of the invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred embodiment of the invention and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without dep'arting from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the sub-joined claims.
I claimz- 1. A shower bath curtain fixture comprising a pair of semi-circular clamping members for each end of a shower curtain rod, an upwardly extending arm formed on each pair of the semi-circular clamping members, a downwardly extending arm formed on each pair of the semi-circular clamping members, a valance rod extending between the upwardly and downwardly extending arms respectively, and a valance strip supported at opposite edges on the Valance rods.
2. A valance strip for shower bath curtains comprising a pair of Valance supporting rods arranged in parallelsp'aced relation, a shower bath curtain rod, brackets at opposite ends of the curtain rod for supporting the valance rods, and means for detachably holding the brackets in place.
3. The combination with a shower bath curtain rod, of a bracket attached to each end thereof, and a pair of arms carried by each bracket and respectively extending above, and below the bracket, the outer ends of the arms being constructed and arranged for the mounting of Valance strip supporting rods.
4. The combination with a shower bath curtain rod, of a bracket attached to each end thereof, and a pair of arms carried by each bracket and respectively extending above and below the bracket and located at one side thereof, the outer encls of the arms being in the same vertical plane and constructed and arranged for the mounting of valance strip supporting rods.
5. A bracket for the support of Valance strip rods comprising a pair of curtain rod clamping members, a pair of arms carred by one of said members and respectively projecting above and below the member at one side thereof, and the terminal ends of the arms being in the same Vertical plane and constructed and arranged for the mounting of a valance strip supporting rod.
