Description

Nov. 6, 1934. D. GERSHEN LADY S UNDERWEAR Filed Juhe 20, 1932 INVENTOR. 011027 Ges77en ATTORNEY.
Patented Nov. 6, 1934 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
This invention relates to improvements in ladies underwear, and aims to provide a simple form of composite garment to replace a plurality of garments now commonly worn.
Other objects of the invention are to provide such underwear which is light and comfortable, and yet keeps the body fully covered at all times, and which can be quickly put on or taken off.
A further object of the invention is to provide such underwear which is simple to make and easy to wash and iron.
With these and other objects and advantages in view which will become apparent as the specification proceeds, the invention is hereinafter more fully described with the aid of the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 illustrates a front view of the garment showing a portion thereof torn away, and
Figure 2 is a partial rear view thereof.
Referring to the drawing, 1 designates my garment which consists essentially in four attached portions, namely a brassiere 2, a girdle 3, pants 4 and an underskirt 5.
The brassiere 2 is provided with conventional shoulder straps 6 and is split from the top down one side as shown at 7.
The adjacent edges of this split portion are held together by means of suitable fastenings such as the cooperating fastener portions 8 and 8a. In order to render this portion of the garment form fitting darts 9 are provided.
A seam 12 is formed around the lower margin of the brassire 2 to which the upper margin of the girdle 3 is sewn. This seam is form fitting so that portions of the garment cannot ride up on the person and become misplaced. The girdle 3 is also shaped to conform to the curvature of the figure around the waist line and also to afford support for the abdomen. The girdle is also split at M to form a downward continuation of the brassire split 7, and the adjacent edges of the split portion are provided with cooperating fastener portions 10 and 10a similar to the fastener portions 8 and 8a.
A lower seam is formed around the lower margin of the girdle to which both the upper margin of the pants 4 and the underskirt 5 are sewn. This lower seam is also intended to cling to the figure to further assist in holding all the portions of the garment in their desired positions.
The upper portions of the pant legs are closed at 4a, and the lower outer portions are open at 41), though suitable fasteners 4d may be provided thereon if desired. The inner sides of the legs and the crotch are closed as shown at 4c preferably by a seam.
The underskirt 5, which covers the pants 4, may be of any suitable length and width to suit the wearer, and may be shaped to conform to the width or style of the dress or skirt under which it is to be worn. The underskirt is also preferably split downward a short distance from its upper margin to form a continuation of the girdle split 7a, and adjacent the margins of this split portion '71) cooperating fastener portions 11 and 11a are provided.
From the foregoing it will be noted that while the garment is all one, a single thickness of material can cover all portions of the body except that covered also by the pants; support both for the bust and abdomen is provided, and the seams l2 and 12a which are form fitting assist in holding the various parts of the garment in their respective positions; and the closed crotch of the pants further assists in accomplishing the same purpose. Thus it will be seen that even in the event of the shoulder straps breaking there is no danger of the garment slipping down and coming off. 4
While the pants 4 have been shown as shorts their length may be varied to suit the desire of the wearer, or, if desired, the garment may be made without the pants, and the form fitting upper portions, namely the brassire 2 and the girdle 3, as well as the seams 12 and 12a will retain the garment portions in place.
Though the preferred embodiment of the invention has been described and shown, it is understood that alterations and modifications may be made therein provided they fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A composite garment comprising a brassiere portion, shoulder straps thereon, a girdle portion, the whole of the upper margin of which is permanently secured to the whole lower margin of said brassiere portion, an-underskirt portion, secured to the lower margin of said girdle, a pants portion also secured to the lower margin of said girdle along the same line as said underskirt so as to hang freely within said underskirt portion, said pants portion having a closed crotch and longitudinal slits formed in the lower portion of the legs, and said brassiere portion, girdle portion and the upper part of the underskirt portion and pants being longitudinally slit, fastening means on the opposite margins of said slit, andthe girdle being so shaped as to afford support to thatportion of the body which it covers, and covering said portion of the body with a single thickness of material only, said girdle portion flaring in width both upwardly and downwardly from the side portions to the central portion, thus having its uppermost point located adjacent the intersection of the busts of a wearer.
