Description

` F. H. CLARK.
Swing.
No. 197,603. PantedNov. 27, 1877.

FRANK H. CLARK, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
IMPROVEMENT IN SWINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,603, dated November 27, 1877, application led January 29, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, FRANK H. CLARK, of the city of Newark, inthe county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Portable Adjustable Support for Swings, of which the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable others to make and use the same, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein like parts are indicated by like letters in each iigure, and wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved swing-support arranged for use. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, showing the different parts. Fig. 3 is a det-ail View of the bearingblock.
The object of my invention is to aord an easily-adjustable swing, that may be put in any doorway or other like place, so constructed as to be free from all danger of falling when in use, and so ythat it may be easily adjusted.
The .bearing blocks B B are faced with india-rubber, or other yielding substance, on one end, and in the other there is bored a hole containing a female screw-in one block a righthand screw, and in the other a left-hand screw. On one side of each block I arrange an eye, c c', to receive the rope of the swing. The brace A is provided at one end with a right-hand, at the other witha left-hand, male The screws a a of the brace A work in the blocks B B', being made to fit and correspond with the female screws b b.
The brace A may have a slot cut in its een! ter lengthwise, as shown at S in Fig. 2, for the purpose of inserting a key, S, to tighten the blocks in position. The key S' is pivoted in position in the slot S, at P, and may be turned at right angles to the brace A, forming a lever by which the brace A may be turned with great force when adjusting the supporter; or it may be folded away in the slot S prepared for that purpose.
By this construction I am able to make a much cheaper and more simple swing -supporter than any heretofore known, and one in which the fitting and adjusting are done by one mechanism and at one operation.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. The combination of the blocks B B with the brace A, having the key S', substantially as shown and described.
2. The combination of the brace A withthe key S', substantially as shown and described.
3. The combination of the right and left hand screws a a with the brace A and key S.
4. The rubber-faced blocks B B', in combination with the screws a a. i
In witness that I claim the above as my invention I have hereto signed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
FRANK lH. CLARK.
