FOLDING BILLIARD-TABLE.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 19,755, dated March 30, 1858.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES CROLEY, of the city of Cincinnati, in the county of I-Iamilton and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Arrangement of Parts for Folding and Moving Billiard-Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, and made to form part of this specification, and similar letters refer to like parts of the improvement.

The present method of constructing, setting up, and leveling billiard tables, makes them nearly equivalent to a permanent fixture in a room-and when moved it is attended with much time and considerable expense-and my improvement is intended to obviate these difficulties by constructing the table so that the frame portion of it can be folded and the bed hung to one side' of the table and the whole moved out of the Hoor against the wall of the room-or where desired on the floor of the room that it may be sitting in and can be made not to occupy over or of the room they do when being used.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my improvement I will proceed to describe its construction and operation by referring direct to the accompanying drawings. Y

Figure 1 represents an end elevation of the table when extended and ready for use. Fig. 2 represents the table in a folded state. I will here state that it can be made to occupy a much less space than represented, with the same means. Fig. 3 is a top 'view of Fig. 2 showing the table in a folded form. Fig. 4 is a top view of the table extended with part of the bed or top removed to show the condition of the frame of the table in an extended state-and Fig. 5 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the frame of the table showing the means for elevating it on rollers to be moved.

(B, B,) represents the bed of the table and (a, 65,) the frame portion of it-and to fold the table a portion of the ends of the table frame represented by (c, 0,) is out out and hinged together by the hinges (d) and (f f,) as shown in the dierent plans for the purpose of folding the table transversely as fully represented in Fig. 3, preparatory to moving it; but before folding the table the top (B,) is raised and rolled to one side of the table on the rollers J, one placed at each end of the bed as represented and when the table bed has been moved as far to one side as the links g, g, at each end will admitof it going then it is turned up at right angles with the frame of the table to one side as represented in Figs. 2 and 3, and held by the links g g. Then the levers (P, P,) on the inside of t-he frame working on the centers (0, 0,) andcarrying the upright pieces (m, m,) and rollers (n, m) are raised up at the center of the table high enough to elevate the table off of its feet (i, z,) and cause the table to restv on the rollers (n, n) connected to the lower part of the pieces (m, m) and the levers are thus held elevated by the pin R passing through the hole w, in the end of the lever into the hole w in the frame of the table as represented in Fig. 5. The table frame is then folded and moved to one side as represented in Figs. 2 and 3.

The levers (P P) are united together at their ends at th'e center of the table as represented, so that the moving of one will move the other.

When the table is folded the frame portion of it is furnished wit-h two pieces (S, S,) to form a table to be used for any ordinary table purposes-and add to the appearance of the table in a folded state-the pieces (S, S,) are recessed in the frame of the table as represented in Fig. 5 in section so that the bed port-ion of the table can rest on the frame when extended without having the table pieces S, S, to interfere with it.

h is a guide piece or plate to be attached on each end of the bed of the table for guiding and steadying it when being moved olf and on the table frame.

With the method employed of elevating the table and resting it on the rollers (fn, n) for moving-it can be moved out of the floor and back againand let down on its feet (i, z',) in a level state as the moving of it will not in the least interfere with the feet by turning them up or down in the legs of the table-and in resetting the table carey must be taken to set the feet in the same spot they were taken from las it is supposed that the table was level before it was moved and will be level if moved backin the same spot providing the feet are not interfered with in moving it which they are not with the means I employ for moving the table.
