The shank 1i may be of one long piece, or may be of one short piece provided with an extension arranged to telescope on the shank. The latter 65 construction is shown, and as can be seen, the lower end of the shank 1l is bent over at its corners to provide wings which receive between them the tapered end 31 of a shank extension 32, the latter being shank 1l. The sheet 23 further is provided with slits 36 for purposes later to be described and these are disposed as shown, adjacent the upper end of the shank li, near the intersection thereof with the head l1.

The operation and use of the device shown form, substantially as shown in Fig. 1, with all of the metal parts con-- cealed mthin the wrapper; the free edge 37 of the nap oi' sheet 23 is tucked into the top edge fold i7, i. e., into the space between the blade 12 and the front 19 of the waterproof sheet, substantially as indicated. At this time the extension 32 is telescoped onto the shank 11 so that the combined length of the shank 1l and its extension is somewhat less than the length of the folded book. As thus formed to be distributed, the bool: iorrns a very satisfactory advertising novelty and presents no metal parts which might be considered objectionable. Further, inasmuch as the surface 24 of the flap sheet 23 may be imprinted throughout its area with advertising matter, practically all the available area of the book is v used for advertising and there are no blank areas on the exterior of the vbook.

When the device is to be used as a razor, the book is rst opened up, with the sheet 23 assuming the position of Figs. 2 and 3. At this time, the 1.10

Then the head 10 is bent back, relative to the shank 11, or substantially to the position of Fig. 4, which act serves topmove all the parts stapled to the head, (blade 12, front 19, and sheet 23) ack to the position of Fig. 4, thus forming asatisfactory razor. `The degree of bending may be left to the discretion of the user, and it will be observed that any shaving angle may be created, this feature being of advantage inasmuch as certain people prefer one shaving angle and other people prefer a diierent shaving angle.

The last step in preparing the device for use as a razor, is to bend the flap sheet 23 from the form of Fig. 5 to the form of Fig. 6, so as to provide two wings 38, between which is a channel 39. It is'observed that the extension 32 is anchored to the base of this channel by virtue of the fact that the slits 35 extend across the base of the channel.

For shaving, the operator grasps the razor as follows: He places his index finger in the channel 39 between the wings 38 and then grasps 'the wings 38 with his thumb against the outside of one of them and his middle nger against the outside of the other, these three digits together being all that are necessary to grasp the razor satisfactorily.

If the handle shank is formed of one part, the handle shank will be made as long as the shank 11 and the extension 32, and will be bent or retroverted when the device is in book form, and will be straightened out when the book is opened up, to form a long handle shank.

Further, while the wrapper is shown as composed of two separate sheets of paper, it will readily be understood that they might Well bev made integral.

Now having described an embodiment of the invention, reference will be had to the following claims for a determination of the scope of the invention.

We claim as our invention:

1.
