Application August 28, 1936, Serial No. 98,374
1 Claim.
This invention relates to mailing pieces, more particularly, letter heads and bill heads, provided with a pocket in which is detachably held, a reply mailing element, whichmay be either a pre-addressed card or an envelope, also preferably pre-addressed. In either case the prime object being to facilitate and insure a prompt reply by the recipient of the mailing piece.
In carrying out my invention, I produce the letter head or the like, or a substantial portion thereof, of two-ply stock; the two plies being cementltiously unitedthroughout the major portions thereof, but having an uncemented area, preferably in the upper left hand corner, thereof, which provides a pocket into which a reply card or envelope is dctachably fitted.
The invention will be better understood from the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, and the distinctive features of novelty will be thereafter pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the drawing,- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a milling piece produced in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a business reply card, adapted for use with the mailing piece of Figure 1, andshowing the reverse side thereof;
Figure 3 is a perspective view' showing the obverse side of the reply card;
Figure 4 is a perspective view showing the twoply or duplex letter head provided with a reply element in envelope form, the lower portion of the letter 'head being broken away; and
Flgure 5 is a perspective view with an intermediate portion broken away, of an envelope type reply'element adapted for use with the invention.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, III indicates a two-ply letter head which may have a usual printed or engraved heading ll, made of two plies I [la and lllb of paper stock cementitiously united except at-an area in the upper left hand corner which is left uncemented to form a pocket lllc. The paper may be formed with a small cutout lfld at the end of this pocket to afford a finger hold to facilitate removal of the reply element from the pocket. The front ply Illa is also shown as provided with a window opening me through which an address on the reply card is visible, this permitting the replying address of the recipient on the reverse side of the reply card to serve also as the salutation or sending address at the top of the letter head. The reply 5 card I2 may bear on its reverse side any desired form letter matter as indicated at l2a beneath which the address of the recipient is applied.
The obverse side of the reply card may be provided with suitable indicia as indicated at l2b to denote its prepaid character as regards the recipient. I I In Figures 4 and 5, I show a form of the invention wherein a duplex or two-ply letter head I3 similar to the letter head "I, is provided with a similar pocket I30 for receiving a reply mail ing element l4 which in this case is in the form of an envelope. The duplex letter head in this form is provided with a window opening |3e through its front ply, so as to exhibit the address Q Ma on the reverse side of the envelope as the Salutation address of the letter head the same as already described.
I am aware that the invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential attributes thereof, and I therefore desire the present embodiments to be considered in all respects as illustrative and not restrictive, and refer to the appended claim rather than scription to indicate the scope of the invention.
Having now described my invention,,what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A letter head or the like, comprising two plies of paper stock cemented together except for an to the foregoing de- 3 area at the upper left hand corner of the sheet defining a pocket with a window opening from the front of the sheet at the locality of said pocket, and a reply mailing element detachably held in said pocket, pre-addressed on one side to the sender of .the device, and adapted to bear on its other side indicia which serves both as the salutation address for the letter on said letter head and as the identification of the sender of said reply mailing element.
