UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN-DALTON, OF BOUOHEA, WISCONSIN.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-YOKE ADJUSTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,254, dated November 20, 1877; application filed I October 6, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN DALTON, of Bouchea, in the county of St. Oroix and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Neck-Yoke Adjuster, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a vertical longitudinal section of my improved 'neck yoke adjuster on line :20 as, Fig. 2, and Fig. 2 is a rear view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention is intended to supply to farmers, lumbermen, teamsters, and others an improved device for attaching the neck-yoke to the harness in quick, simple, and convenient manner, so as to dispense with the wear of straps and the loss of time in attaching the neck-yokes.
The invention consists of a neck-yoke adjuster, made of a sleeve-shaped part, for attaching the breast-strap; of a ring, below the same, for connecting with a hook at the end of neck-yoke; and of a braced loop back of the ring, for the holdback-strap.
In the drawing, A represents a tubular or sleeve-shaped part, around which the breaststrap of a common harness is placed, the breast-strap being retained byan outer concentric portion, A, that is connected by end stays or walls a to the tubular or sleeve-shaped part A.
At the lower part of the concentric part A, and cast in one piece therewith, is a ring, B, that serves to attach the device to a hook at the end of the neck-yoke.
A loop, 0, extends from the ring B back; ward, and is strengthened laterally by a bracepiece, D, and vertically'by a curved brace-arm,
D, that extends up to the end stays of the sleeve A of the breast-strap. The loop 0 and the brace-pieces are cast in one piece with the sleeve and ring, or welded thereto, so that they form together one piece, of strong and durable construction.
The loop 0 serves to attach the holdbackstrap of the harness, which is thereby always in place, without having a chance to slide back and forward, as heretofore. Each horse has thereby an equal share to hold back, as the device is much stronger than rings and strap-keepers, and cannot unhook except by hand.
The connection with the neck-yoke may by the adjusting device be made at an instant, and thereby the attaching of thehorses to the neck-yoke facilitated and expedited.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A neck-yoke adjuster, consisting of a sleeve-shaped support for the breast-strap, of a bottom ring for connecting with the neckyoke, and of a backward-extending and braced loop for the holdback-strap, all made in one piece, and applied substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of a breast-strap sleeve with a neck-yoke connecting-ring, at right angles thereto, and a holdbackstrap loop,
\ strengthened by a lateral and vertical brace,
the latter connecting with the end stay of the sleeve, substantially as specified.
JOHN DALTON.
