The present invention relates to a bathing garment for ladies use, which is chiefly characterized by the fact that its upper part is so arranged as to form two pockets, which surround the breasts, and while fitting closely, maintain them in position, without flattening them or exerting any pressure upon them.
The said bathing garment, whose lower part may be made as desired, thus serves to straighten the breasts of the person, and to give an aesthetic appearance to the bust, while allowing an entire freedom for the movements.
According to one form of this garment, the upper part is made up by the following combination, comprising: the top part of a main front piece whose upper edge is cut according to two curves which are convex in the upward direction and are symmetrical, with reference to the longitudinal axis of the piece;--two upper pieces which have the symmetrical position on either side of this axis, the lower outline of each piece corresponding to one of the above-mentioned curved lines of the main piece, whilst the upper outline forms at the top a pointed part to which 25*. one of the respective shoulder-straps or other holding means is attached;-two lateral and rear elements, which have a triangular or like shape and are attached to the lateral edges of said upper pieces and of the main front piece,
301 and are provided at the rear ends with suitable means by which they can be connected.
The warp yarn of the fabric of the main front piece is preferably parallel with the longitudinal axis of this piece, whilst the warp yarn of the 35ifabric of the two upper elements and of the two lateral elements has practically a horizontal direction.
In the accompanying drawings, which are given solely by way of example:
Fig. 1 is a front view of an improved bathing garment in conformity to the invention, and Fig. 2 is the corresponding side and rear view. Fig. 3 is a front view of a similar costume, in which the two upper front elements consist of 45 Iopen-work, thus allowing the suns rays to pass through while concealing the skin. Fig. 4 is a front view of another form of garment in which open-work parts are distributed upon the same, and Fig. 5 is a corresponding side and rear view. Fig. 6 is a view in which the assembly of the above-mentioned pieces is shown in the flatwise position and before sewing together, in the case of a garment which is not provided with openwork.
In the form of execution represented in Figs.
A'B (Figs. 2, a5 and 6).
The main front piece 1,
in which the warp yarn of the fabric has preferably the lengthwise direction, parallel with the longitudinal axis XX (Fig. 6), is out out upon its upper edge in such manner as to form two curves CDE and CDE' (Fig. 6).
The piece is further out out at EFF! according to the axis X-X, the two edges EF and EF being joined as shown in Fig. 1 in order to form a so-called pinch from EtoF.
To each edge CDE and CDE' is sewed a re-.
spective upper element 4 and 4', and these two elements, having an outline cd gh and c'd gh, are symmetricalwith reference to the longitudinal axis XX of the garment.
The lower edges ode and cde have their con vexed sides turned downward, and thus when they are joined to the respective edges CDE C'DE the piece 1 will form with the pieces 44, breasts.
two pockets adapted to contain the The curved lines CDE-CDE' and cde--cde have such position that they will extend practically across the nipples of the breasts.
The direction of the warp yarn of the fabric composing the elements 4=4 is preferably parallel with the lower edges cdc'd, and thus when the garment is fitted in place upon the body, the directions of the warp yarn of the elements 44 on the one hand, and of the warp yarn of the piece 1 on the other hand, are practically perpendicular to one another.
The upper edges fg'hX- gh of the elements 4-4 which are joined together along the axis X-X by connecting the edges ef and ef', each forms at g and g a pointed part which is directed upwardly. To such parts g-g' are attached respective shoulder-straps 66.
To the sides AC and ch of the respective pieces 1 and 4 on the one hand, and A'C and 071. of the respective pieces 1 and 4 on the other hand, are attached two elements 5 and 5 IJKLIJ'KL' of trapezoidal, triangular or like form, which are provided at the back with suitable means by which they may be attached together, such as a button 8 and button-hole,
This device may also serve for attaching the shoulder straps 66', as shown in Fig. 2. Such straps may also be tied about the neck, as represented in Fig. 5.
The warp yarn of the fabric employed for the elements 5--5 is preferably perpendicular to the sides IJIJ', and thus the yarn will have practically the horizontal direction when the garment is worn by the person.
Due to the shape given to the several pieces 1, 4, 4', 5, 5, the garment forms two pockets at its upper part, which are adapted to fit closely upon the breasts and to hold them in position, without flattening them. The pinch and the line of junction of the elements 4-4 serve to separate the breasts, which are thus straightened. in their form and occupy their normal position. The person thus preserves, or even acquires an asthetic form, while remaining entirely free in the movements.
Obviously, the garment may be made of any suitable fabric having a warp which is more or less close, and the garment may also comprise open work parts which allow the sun's rays to pass through while concealing the forms of the body and the skin.
Fig. 3 shows by Way of example a bathing garment in which the upper elements 4 and 4 consist of open work portions and are connected together by a small piece of plain fabric 9.
In the arrangement shown in Figs. 4 and 5, the garment comprises open work parts which are distributed upon the whole of the garment.
Obviously, the said invention is not limited to the forms of execution herein described and represented, which are given solely by way of example.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A ladys bathing garment comprising a main front piece, the upper edges of which form two curves having their convexity turned upwards and disposed symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis of said main piece, two upper elements disposed symmetrically on both sides of the longitudinal axis of said main piece, the lower edge of each of said upper elements forming a curve having its convexity turned downwards and assembled to the convex edge of the corresponding portion of said main piece, holding means attached to the upper edge of said upper elements, a rear piece assembled with the lower portion of said main front piece, two rear and lateral flaps, fastened to the lateral edges of said upper elements and to the main front piece above said rear piece and means at the rear ends of said rear and lateral flaps for detachably connecting the same.
2. A ladys bathing garment comprising a main front piece, the upper edges of which form two curves having their convexity turned upwards and disposed symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis of said main piece, two upper elements disposed symmetrically on both sides of the longitudinal axis of said main piece, the lower edge of each of said upper elements forming a curve having its convexity turned downwards and assembled to the convex edge of the corresponding portion of said main piece, holding means attached to the upper edge of said upper elements, a rear piece assembled with the lower portion of said main front piece, two rear and lateral flaps, fastened to the lateral edges of said upper elements and to the main front piece above said rear piece and means at the rear ends of said rear and lateral flaps for detachably connecting the same, the warp threads of said main front piece being substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis of said main piece, whereas the warp threads of said upper elements and lateral flaps are substantially perpendicular to said longitudinal axis.
