Description
June 26, 1934. T. M. NEGRI 1,964,210
LADYS BATHING GARMENT Filed June 6, 1932 Tresino. Marla N 9 INVENTOR'.
Patented June 26, 1934:
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application June 6, 193.2,: Serial No. 615,573
In France May 11, 1932 1- Claim.
In my co-pending application for a patent No. 608,184, I have described a ladys bathing gar-- ment serving to straighten ladies breasts and to give an aesthetic appearance to the bust, while allowing an entire freedom for the movements, the said garment being chiefly characterized by the fact that its upper part is so arranged as to form two pockets, which surround the breasts, while fitting closely, and maintaining them in position, without flattening them or exerting any pressure upon them.
The present invention relates to a bathing garment of this class, and is chiefly characterized by the fact that the two upper lateral and rear pieces, which cooperate in the formation of said pockets adapted to contain the breasts, are divided at their rear portion in the lengthwise direction in such manner, that each piece will form two flaps or bands, the upper flap of each piece being attached at the front to the upper portion of the oppositely-situated pocket, whilst the lower flaps are preferably attached at a common point upon the upper edge of the main rear piece of the garment.
By this arrangement, the edges of the pockets containing the breasts will fit closely upon the skin over the whole outline of the breasts, avoiding thus the opening of the said garment at its upper or lateral sides when the person is in the stooping position or makes various movements.
In the accompanying drawing, which is given solely by way of example:
Fig. 1 is a front view of an improved bathing garment in conformity to the invention,
Fig. 2 is the corresponding side and rear view,
Fig. 3 is a view showing, in the flatwise position and before sewing together, the piece which forms, after the sewing, the assembly of the upper front and rear part of the garment and the lower front part.
In the form of execution herein represented, the bathing garment, which is made of a suitable fabric of any kind, such as jersey or the like, comprises a main front piece 1, which forms the leg part in the known manner when joined to the main rear piece 2 (and a lower point 3, Fig. 3), the two pieces 1 and 2 being joined at the sides on the lines AB and AB.
The main front piece 1, in which the warp yarn of the fabric has preferably the longitudinal direction, parallel with the longitudinal axis of the bathing garment, is cut out according to an outline BALMNOK KONM'LAB.
The lateral and rear parts 55 are split lengthwise, and the upper flaps 10 -10 are longer than the lower flaps 11-1-1.
The edges feD and feD' pertaining to the cutout part of the garment are symmetrical with reference to the longitudinal axis XX, and are then connected together in such manner as to cause the points f e to coincide respectively with the points fe. The lines E F form a socalled pinch, and the junction of the edges e D and ED on the one hand, and e D and E D on the other hand, forms two pockets adapted to contain and to mould the breasts.
Ihe upper flaps 10-10' cross one another loosely at 12 and are brought over the shoulders, and are then attached respectively at g and g to the oppositely-situated pockets containing the breasts. The lower flaps 11--1l are attached to the upper edge of the main rear piece 2, for instance at a common point 13. The bands 10l0' and l1ll are attached at gg-13 by any suitable means which may be removable, as for instance hooks, spring pressure buttons etc., or may be of a permanent nature for instance by sewing the parts together.
Obviously, the main piece which is cut out as shown in Fig. 3 may comprise openwork parts which allow the suns rays to pass through while concealing the forms of the body and the skin.
It is evident that the said invention is not limited to the forms of execution herein described and represented, which are given solely by way of example, and it is obvious that the bands 1010' and 11-11 can be used even if the lateral and rear parts 55 are not formed in one with the main piece 1. 1.
Having now described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A ladys bathing garment, comprising a main front piece, a rear piece and two rear and lateral portions, the assembly of these parts forming at the upper front part of said garment two pockets to contain the breasts, said rear and lateral portions being each divided according to the longitudinal direction in order to form two superposed flaps, each upper flap of the corresponding rear and lateral portion being attached on the front at the upper portion of the opposite pocket containing the breast, and the corresponding lower flaps being preferably attached upon a common point situated substantially in the middle portion of the upper edge of the said rear piece.
