This invention relates to new and useful improvements in coats, and has for one of its objects to provide a coat of a material, especially made and composed in such a manner .5 .that the said coat will possess the utmost resistance to cold and moisture, be very light of weight and in addition be extremely cheap to manufacture; combined features, which it is thought, should make this invention exceptionally valuable, and create for the latter unusual market possibilities, especially in view of, and under, the present conditions.

Another advantage of this device is, that it may be designed, cut and formed from one single piece of material, with practically no waste of cloth, and with a minimum of sewing.

With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists of the novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming part of this application, and in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all views, and in which:

Figure l shows my coat designed, to be cut out of one single piece of material; while Figure 2 shows the composition of layers making up the material employed; and Figure 3 shows the parts assembled.

Referring more particularly to the drawing and taking up i'lrst the unique combination of layers constituting the said material, the result of diligent research Work and experimentation,

r 10 indicates, as shown in Figure 2, the outer layer of said composition, and consists of a twilled textile having a fairly smooth surface of a preferably brown color. The said outer layer is submitted to a chemical treatment to make it waterproof; next in order the said material consists of a layer of corrugated paper 11, as a very important cold-resisting element; the said paper may, or may not, be chemically treated, as stated above, according to whether it is desired to add another waterproof layer to the composite material. Inside of the said paper is next arranged a layer of preferably cotton-wool 12, and innermost, and next to the latter, a lining 13 of a substance commonly used for such purpose, constitutes the last layer of the coinposed material. The said layers are sewed or connected together in any suitable manner.

Referring to the designing, and cutting of the coat according to the pattern, out of one single piece of material, it is desired to emphasize the extremely simple pattern, whereby the creation of a coat may be accomplished with the least efforts and in the shortest possible time.

Thus in Figure 1, 14 designates the main body and back portion of the coat, while 15, 15, indicate upwardly extending side-portions, which,

tion 14, forms the shoulder portion, and between the latter and the upwardly extending side- portions 15, 15, cut-outs 18 are made for attachment of the sleeves 22, while at the said upper central part 17 a cut-out portion 19 con- 75 stitutes the neck-portion, to which the collar shown at 20, and which is cut from the cloth between the sleeve portions, and is of a substantially rectangular form, may be attached.

A somewhat triangular piece of material 21, nearly congruent with the portion 17, may be attached on top of the latter, and inside the coat, as a special protection for the upper part of the body of the wearer.

Sleeves designed and cut, as shown in the drawing, and indicated at 22, are bent upon themselves and attached to the armholes 18, thereby completing the making of the said coat in an extremely simple and easy manner.

It will thus appear that the folding and sewing the different parts together, the upper portions a and b of the side portions 15, 15, will be laid upon and attached to the portions c and d, respectively, of the section 17.

The manner of otherwise assembling the said parts in order to form and make a perfect coat is thought clearly to appear from the aforesaid description in connection with the drawing.

It is obvious that changes may be made in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts, as shown, Within the scope of the appended claim, Without departing from the spirit of the invention, and I do not therefore desire to limit myself to the construction and arrangement shown and described herein.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:-

In a device of the class described, the arrangement of material for making a coat according to a pattern, comprising, in combinatector forming an integral part of the lower and larger piece of material, and triangular projectons at the upper outer end of the side portions of said lower piece of material adapted to form lapels, substantially as shown and described.
