DEMOUNTABLE REFLECTOR ASSEMBLY Filed May 11, 1933 FIGA Patented July 31, 1934 NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application May 11, 1933, Serial No. 670,602 In France May 13, 1932 2 Claims.
The object of the present invention is an improved system for instantly fixing a removable reflector on to a movable support, said fixing being obtained at one single point positioned below 5 the center of gravity of said reflector.
Said system makes it possible, without the assistance of any tool and without having to use the movable support as a fulcrum, to mount and dismount the reflector instantly, that is to say to clean it and to have access to the bulb, or group of bulbs, or to the source of light whatever it may be, without any hindrance.
In the attached drawing a form of embodiment of the device has been shown in diagram and merely as an example:
Figure 1 is a general view in elevation, partly in section, of a support with a removable reflector fixed by the device which forms the subject matter of the invention.
Figure 2 is a section of the fixing device proper.
In the example of embodiment shown in the drawing, 1 indicates a hanging bracket at the lower part of which is positioned lamp holder 2 intended to support lighting bulb 3. The system for the instant fixing of removable reflector 4 (which reflector in the example shown assumes the form of a cone) is constituted by two parts one of which is solid with the movable support the other being made solid with the removable reflector.
The first part of the device, which is solid with the support intended to receive the removable reflector, is composed of a sleeve or tube 5 which is screwed on to the extremity of tube 6 which terminates the lower part of hanging bracket 1 and which supports the socket of bulb 2, said tube 5 being closed, at its lower portion, by a plug 7 provided with a conical head. Said plug and the corresponding part of the sleeve are provided with a housing intended to receive a locking pin 8 the purpose of which is to maintain, on the fixed portion of the device, the movable portion hereinafter described and which is solid with the removable reflector proper.
The moving portion of the fixing system is composed a tapped tube or sleeve 9 which is capable of sliding freely along tube 5, said sleeve 9 is provided on the one hand with a cup 10 which is screwed to it and which rests on the internal surface of reflector 4, which may be made of any kind of substance and of any thickness, and on the other hand with a lock nut 11. Said lock nut is intended, when tightened up, to cause an outer cup 12 to bear against the outer surface of reflector 4 which is thus gripped between cups 10 and 12 and made solid with sliding sleeve 9. A cover 13, intended to conceal pin 8 and to keep it in position, is made fast between nut 11 and. cup 12.
The operation of fixing the reflector is most simple and consists in bringing the reflector opposite the point of plug 7 and pushing said reflector upwards when inner cup 10 of said reflector automatically guides tube 5 (and its plug) towards the orifice of sleeve 9. When sleeve 9 is sufiiciently engaged over tube 5 pin 8 is placed in position and sleeve 9 is allowed to drop by its own weight and comes to rest against pin 8 which is concealed and held in position by cover 13.
Removal of the reflector is effected by raising said reflector together with the parts which are solid with it and removing pin 8 after which sleeve 9 readily slips off tube 5.
It is evident that the form of embodiment hereinabove described and illustrated in the attached drawing is only given as an indication and that the invention is not so limited but may be otherwise embodied within the scope of the following claims.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the type described, comprising a fixed member solid with a movable light bracket, a removable member solid with a reflector, and a fixing element adapted to fix the said reflector onto the said fixed member, the said removable member solid with the reflector comprising at least two cups for clamping the reflector and a hood inserted between one of said cups and another clamping element, the said fixed means having a housing, and the hood being adapted to conceal the fixing element introduced into the said housing.
2. A lamp having a removable reflector, comprising a fixed and unitary socket asembly having an aperture therein, a unitary reflector assembly movable with respect to said socket assembly and adapted to be slipped thereover, and. having a skirted hood thereon, and a pin fitting in said aperture in said socket asembly and against the ends of which pin the reflector assembly bears, the hood concealing the said pin.
