DUMPINGr-BOX FOR AGRICULTURAL PURPOSES.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 19,663, dated March 16, 1858.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN VAN DOREN, of Farm Ridge, in the county of Lasalle, in the State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Machine for Molding into Shocks Agricultural Products, Forming and Discharging the Same; and I hereby declare the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and letters of reference marked thereon.

Figure l is a perspective view of the machine showing its upper side. Fig. 2 is a vertical projection. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section.

B, D, E, G and B', D', E', G' are At-wo pyramidal boxes consisting of two sides, a bottom, andan end, or part of an end; revolving horizontally on pivots A', and vertically on hinges C'. N N are blocks, supporting boxes, which revolve horizontally on pivots A also (Fig. 8). These blocks are supported by platform M which revolves horizontally upon a spindle through the medium of suitable driving gear, connected with vthe motor, or by hand, if preferred. I do not deem it necessary to describe any special gearing for this purpose, as any suitable arrangement used in similar machines may be adopted. Other boxes may be placed on the same platform if desired by enlarging it; or a single box may be used separately; and in such case the blocks N and platform M will not be required to revolve as aforesaid. In this case the box or boxes may be tipped or dumped either by hand, or automatically by means of gearing as aforesaid. These boxes I will call flasks or molds.

E G' Fig. l is a shelf, which may be made to cove-r all, or part of the large end of the box, as may be desired.

ZJ b are spikes project-ing from the bottom of the box, which, together with lthe shelf, prevent the shock from slipping out too soon.

YVhen the stack or shock is formed (as described in another application) I turn the platform M half around, or as far as required, thus bringing the other box to the place for filling, at the same time removing the one just filled. I now raise the end D B of the box, to the position represented by D B' E' G', and thus discharge the stack upon its butt or larger end.

It is plain that without changing the nature of my invention, the stack may be discharged in several equivalent ways; for example-the sides of the box may be stationary, and the bottom be hinged at O, or a portion of the bottom may be hinged at O, answering the purpose, or the entire box remaining stationary upon the block N, the stack alone may be raised out o-f its box and discharged. It may be remarked when the end of the box is covered by the shelf E' G' the shock may be drawn out of the box when it is tilted into a vertical position.

Having thus described the construction.

and operation of my flask or mold, I wish it to. be understood that I do not confine myself to the precise form thereof, nor to the precise manner of operating the same, but claim the right of Varying their form and operation in any manner substantially the same, within the limits of the nature of the invention.

What I desire to secure by Letters Patent isl The combination of the dumping boxes constructed as described, with the blocks N and platform M for the purposes set forth.
