Description

June 5, 1934. J. o sc 1,961,607
('JHILDS GARMENT Filed March 15, 1953 James A F' =rs -J INVENTOR {in ATTORNEY 0 garment.
Patented June 5 1934 UNITED STATES PAET FFICE.
3 Claims.
My invention relates to childrens garments and has reference particularly to the type having a drop seat.
The present invention has for its object to provide an improved garment of the drop seat type, in which the seat may be raised and lowered. in a very convenient manner, and in which the upper edge or" the drop seat is prevented from falling beyond a certain point below the waist line of the I accomplish these objects by means of a combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, set forth in the appended. claims, and illustratively exemplified in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of the garment being worn by a small child showing the seat in its lowered posi tion; Figure 2 is another View of the garment as it appears in the closed position of the seat; Figure 3 is a perspective view or" the front and side oi the garment showing the drop seat closed; and Figure 4 is a side elevational View of a portion of the garment and drop seat, the latter being shown in its lowered position.
Referring to the drawing, 10 denotes the upper body portion of a garment, the front sections 11 thereof extending downwardly from the shoulders to include the leg portions 12. The front sections 11 are open at the front center from the neck opening to the crotch and a row of buttons or other fastening means 13 is used to separably attach the sections together. The back of the garment is provided with a drop seat section 14 and the upper edge of the latter is provided with a band 15 which extends from the side edges of the seat to provide straps 16 adapted to extend forwardly around the sides of the garment at approximately the waist line and across the front sections 11 whereby they overlap and are detachably connected by means of buttons or other means 17 According to the present invention the straps 16 pass through loop straps 18 arranged at opposite sides of the garment and in order to prevent the straps 16 from being pulled through the loops 18 when the seat is dropped, see Figure 4, a stop strap 19 is provided at each side, one end of the strap being permanently attached to the garment adjacent the lower end of the loop 18, while the opposite end is secured to the corner of the drop seat 14 in line with the projecting strap 16 of the band 15. It follows that the stop straps 19 are shorter in their efifective length than the length of the straps 16 so that when the seat 14 has been dropped, as shown in Figure 5, the free ends of the straps 16 will still project through the loops 18 and may readily be drawn forward to raise and adjust the seat to its closed position.
The present construction is particularly applicable when built into garments to be worn by very small children, because the arrangement of the straps 16 makes it unnecessary to provide buttons or other fastening means to support the upper edge of the seat section i l. The child has only to draw the ends of the straps together to bring the seat to closed position, the ends of the straps 16 being prevented from being pulled out of theloops 18 by the stop straps 19.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A garment having a drop seat, straps free at their outer ends and extending from and attached to the seat at their inner ends adapted to be drawn about the front of the garment to support the seat in closed position, said straps being capable of being free-d or any connection with the front of the garment and stop strap for each side of the seat attached directly to the latter at one end and at the other to the garment, each stop strap being shorter in length than the seat strap.
2. A. garment having a drop seat, straps attached at one of their ends to and extending from the seat and adapted at their free ends to be drawn about the front of the garment to support the seat in closed position, loops at the sides of the garment to receive the free ends of the straps, and stop straps for the sides of the garment each stop strap being attached at one end directly to the garment adjacent the side thereof and at the other to the seat at the point where the first strap joins the seat, whereby the seat may be dropped to bring the stop straps taut while the free ends of the seat straps still remain in said loops.
3. A garment having a drop seat, as claimed in claim 2, in which the stop straps are shorter in length than that of the seat straps.
