This invention relates to a stopper and strainer for sinks and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide a member having a strainer part and depending fingers for engaging the walls of a hole in the sink or the like and a stopper member of rubber or the like pivoted to the first member, so that in one position it will close the strainer part oi said iirst member and thus hold the water in the sink or the like, and in another position will uncover the strainer part so that the water can pass through the same into the drain hole of the sink.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specically pointed out in the appended claim.
1n describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:--
Figure 1 is a top plan View oi the device,
' showing the stopper member in open position in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view cf the device.
Figure 3 is a section on line 3 3 of Figure 1.
In this drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a member having a projection 2 thereon and also having the depending fingers 3 which are of spring material so that by forcing these members into the drain hole of a sink or the like, the device will be supported in the sink across the hole. The member is formed with a depression 4 which is shown in the drawing as provided with perforations, but if desired, this part may be made in the form of a wire screen and it is, or" course, designed to strain the water or other liquid passing from the sink or the like through the drain hole thereof.
A disk 5 of rubber or the like is pivoted to the projection 2 by a rivet 6 and this disk has a reinforced peripheral iiange 7 formed on its upper face and a handle 8 is formed on a part of the iiange and is diametrically opposite the pivotal point 6. The central portion of the disk is formed with a weakened line 9 so that the suction created by the liquid passing down the drain hole, just after the disk has been moved to closed position, will cause the disk to firmly seat itself upon the member 1 and thus prevent any more water or liquid passing down the drain hole.
As will be seen, when the disk is placed over the member 1, the drain hole of the sink is closed and water will be held in the sink and by turning the disk to the position shown in dotted lines in Figure 1, water can pass through the screen part 4 of the member l into the drain hole of the sink and thus the watercr other liquid in the sink will be discharged through the drain hole. This device can be used in kitchen sinks and the like and also in bowls oi barber shops, beauty parlors and the like and it can be made of Various sizes.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
1t is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:-
A combined stopper and strainer for a sink or theV like comprising a member having an extending part thereon and depending spring iin gers, said lingers being adapted to engage the walls of a drain opening of a sink or the like and said member having a straining part formed thereon for straining the liquid passing into the drain hole, a disk of resilient material pivoted to the projecting part, an upstanding finger engaging part on the upper face of the disk for enabling the disk to be moved to open or closed position and the central part of the disk having a weakened circular portion at its center.
