WILLIAM D. MAYFIELD, OF FORT WORTH, TEXAS.
I IMPROVEMENT IN PUMP-BUCKETS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 196,031, dated October 9, 1877; application filed June 16, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM D.MAYFIELD, of Fort Worth, in the county of Tarrant and State of Texas, haveinvented a new and valuable Improvement in Pump-Buckets; and I do hereby declare that thefollowing is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is arepresentation of a central vertical sectional view of my pumpbuckets Fig. 2, a front view, and Fig. 3 a detail of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a chain-pump bucket, and in the means for connecting the same to form the chain, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The annexed drawings, to which reference is made, fully illustrate my invention.
My bucket for chain-pumps is formed of two metal plates, A and B. The plate Ais stamped or pressed by dies or other suitable means to form a recess or depression, a, with, or leaving, a flange, b, all around the same. The plate B is in similar manner stamped to c0rrespond with the recess a, and is firmly soldered to the plate A, as shown, so that the cavity formed by the stamping or pressing of the two plates constitutes the bucket.
Both ends of the plate A--that is, the flanges at the ends thereof-are curved to form fastening hooks or tubes d d, the tube d at the bottom of the bucket having an opening, a, in the center. These buckets are connected by means of wire links 0 0, each made of a single piece of wire passed through the tube (1 at the top of one bucket, the ends of the wire then running parallel with each other for a suitable distance, when they are bent inward to be inserted in the tube d at the bottom of the next bucket from opposite sides, and the extreme ends of the wire bent or clinched in the center opening (I; of said latter tube.
This forms a cheap and durable chain, and one which can be easily taken apart at any point for repairs when necessary.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the bucket A B, formed with the fastening-hook d and bottom fastening hook d, with center opening at, and the Wire link 0, connecting the same, in the manner herein described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM DUDLEY MAYFIELD.
