Claims. (01. 2-70) This invention relates generally to attaching means for a yieldable connection between garment members and is an improvement of my invention embodied in United States application 5 for patent, Serial No. 699,004, filed November 21,

The present invention makes provision for a yieldable attachment means situated proximate to any edge of a garment juxtaposing any other connecting edge thereof whereby any induced strain between such members attached is compensated by the elasticity of the said yieldable attachment means.

A further object of the invention is the provision of an attachment means whereby a strain or stretching of a garment is not localized by the transmission of such strain or stretching to the connecting parts and therefore is not accompanied by a destruction of buttonholes, fasteners and fabric.

An additional object of the invention resides in the provision of attachment means whereby fasteners thereof are provided with elastic and universal movement thereby affording undistorted articulation between the connecting members of the garment.

Further objects of the invention reside in the provision of an attachment means whereby a stretching of a two-piece garment is not accompanied by a destruction of buttonholes, fasteners and fabric.

These objects and other incidental ends and advantages will hereinafter appear in the progress of this disclosure and the novelty thereof will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

The accompanying drawing shows a preferred form of the invention as applied to a childs wash suit wherein the garment comprises two portions, a waist portion and a pants portion. It is distinctly understood, however, that other embodiments of the invention are feasible in single piece garments where certain portions are adapted to be alternately separated from and in connection with other portions, such as the seat portion of a childs garment and the connecting edges of any and all other types of garments.

In the drawing now to be described, corresponding reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout.

Fig. 1 is a rear elevational view of a preferred embodiment of the invention partly broken away, as applied to the waist portion of a childs wash suit.

Fig. 2 is a sectional View along the plane 2-2 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a sectional view of Fig. 1 along the plane 3-3 thereof.

Fig. 4 is a front elevational view of Fig. 1 with the front panels of a waist partly broken away and outstretched and showing the inner face of the rear panel folded downwardly.

Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary View of the type portion of the attachment means showing '6 buttons elastically mounted thereon.

In accordance with the invention and in accordance with the accompanying drawing, numeral 10 designates the general rear portion of the waist of the garment embodying the invention herein while 11 is the upper part of said rear portion 10 stitched thereto. Numeral 12 designates a collar attached to '11 and 13 and 14 represent sleeve members. Numerals 15 and 16 designate the front panels of the waist portion of the garment described as best shown in Fig. 4 of the accompanying drawing.

The fabric of rear portion 10 of the waist at the lower edge thereof and between the junctions therewith of front panels 15 and 16 is provided with a fold and reinforcing strips to contain a tape about whichare mounted a series of loops of elastic material. At the other ends of said loops are buttons which are positioned on the outer face of rear portion 10 and which are adapted to cooperate with button holes situated on the waist band of the pants portion of a garment. By such a structure, as above generally described, the buttons at the ends of the elastic loops are given universal movement so that cooperating button holes therewith are always in position for articulation regardless of shrinkage, stretching and displacement of the material on which said button holes are made. It is seen, moreover, that such structure lends itself to contiguous edges of any single piece garments as before mentioned and is the main object of the invention. The said structure is now to be specifically described.

Rear portion 10 between the junctions of front panels 15 and 16 is folded upwardly and inwardly toward the formation of a flap 1'7. Projecting above the said flap 1'? and stitched to the inner surface of the upper edge thereof is a reinforcing strip preferably comprising

members

20 and 21. The integration of fiap 1'7 and the reinforcing strip is accomplished by stitching 29 and 30 respectively.

On the inner face of rear portion 10 and above the fold on the lower edge thereof and between the junctions of front panels 15 and 16 is provided a strip of reinforcing tape 19 stitched to the said rear portion 10 by means of stitching 2'7 and 28. Said rear portion 10 along the length thereof is provided with button holes 25'. Through the said button holes 25' pass elastic loops 25 which have already been threaded through the perforations of buttons 24 and which have already been tied into knots 26 or sealed into tips 26. It should be noted at this time that rear portion 10 at the part having reinforcing tape 19 stitched thereto is stitched to flap 1'? and reinforcing

20 and 21 by means of stitching 31 as best shown in Fig. 3 of the accompanying drawing. Moreover, said stitching 31 is discontinued at the button hole regions 25' to permit the elastic loops 25 free ingress and egress from button holes 25' for a purpose hereinafter to be described.

Numeral 22 designates a tape member adapted to be detachably attached to the inner face of the reinforcing strip member 21 above stitching 31. Said tape member 22 is approximately the width of rear portion 10 and is provided with end button holes 22', the said button holes 22 articulating with buttons 23 stitched to the inner face of reinforcing member 21 by means of stitching as best shown in Figures 1 and 3.

Tape 22 is not stitched in any part of the gar ment. By affixing one end thereof to the inner surface of reinforcing member 21 by means of button 23 and button hole 22, the said tape 22 can be passed through the elastic loops 25 which penetrate button holes 25 and which have mounted thereon buttons 24. After the said tape 22 has been passed through all the elastic loops 25, the free end is then affixed in similar fashion to the other end. Buttons 24 thereafter serve as the anchorages for button holes on another edge of a garment or for the pants portion B of a childs wash suit as shown. It can be readily seen that instead of using buttons in conjunction with elastic loops and button holes, other varieties of fastening elements are feasible.

When washing a garment embodying the invention herein, tape 22 is detached from the inner face of reinforcing member 21. Thereafter by exerting outward pressure on the said tape 22. elastic loops 25 mounted on the said tape 22 are withdrawn from button holes 25 carrying therewith and through the said button holes 25' buttons 24. In this fashion the yieldable attachment means is withdrawn from the garment. For insertion of the present attachment means tape 22 with the elastic loops 25 mounted thereon is attached by end button holes 22 to buttons 23; and thereafter, buttons 24 mounted on the ends of elastic loops 25 are passed through button holes 25' until the said buttons 24 rest against the outer face of Wall 10.

I wish it understood that minor changes and variations in the construction and detail of the disclosure herein may be indulged in without departing from the spirit of the invention and without departing from the scope of the claims.

I claim:

1. In a garment having attachable portions, detachable fastening means therefor comprising an inner fold along an edge of one of said attachable portions, a removable tape member in said fold, a series of elastic loops through which said tape member passes, fastening means attached to the outer end of said elastic loops, the said elastic loops passing through orifices in the outer member of said fold.

2. In a garment having attachable portions, detachable fastening means therefor comprising an inner fold along an edge of one of said attachable portions, a removably aiiixed mounting member in said fold and situated above the base of said fold, a series of elastic loops through which said mounting member passes, the opposite ends of said elastic loops penetrating the outer wall of said fold, and fastening means mounted on the outer wall of said fold by the opposite ends of said elastic loops.

3. In a garment having attachable portions, detachable fastening means therefor comprising an inner fold along an edge of one of attachable portions, a removable iiroimting member affixed in said fold, a series of elastic loops penetrating the outer surface of the said fold and extending into the said fold where the mounting member passes therethrough, means mounted on the outer surface of said fold by means of said elastic loops.

4. In a garment having attachable portions, detachable fastening means therefor comprising an inner fold along an edge of one of said attachable portions, a removable mounting member at fixed in said fold, a series of elastic loops penetrating the outer surface of the said fold and extending into the said fold where the said mounting member passes therethrough, fastening means mounted on the outer surface of said fold by means of said elastic loops, and a complementary fastening means provided on another attachable portion.

5. In a garment having a waist and lower portion therewith, yieldable and detachable fastening means therefor comprising an inner fold along the rear lower edge of said waist portion, a removable mounting member affixed in said fold, a series of elastic loops penetrating the outer surface of the said fold and extending into the said fold where the said mounting member passes therethrough, fastening means mounted on the outer surface of said fold by means of said elastic loops, and a complementary fastening means provided on an edge of the lower portion of the said garment.
